Pain caused by the tumor or aromatase inhibitors (AIs) is a disabling symptom in breast cancer survivors. Their mechanisms are unclear, but pro-algesic and inflammatory mediators seem to be involved. Kinins are endogenous algogenic mediators associated with various painful conditions via B and B receptor activation, including chemotherapy-induced pain and breast cancer proliferation.

Fibromyalgia is a potentially disabling chronic disease, characterized by widespread pain and a range of comorbidities such as hypertension. Among the mechanisms involved in fibromyalgia-like pain symptoms are kinins and their B and B receptors. Moreover, angiotensin I converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, commonly used as antihypertensive drugs, can enhance pain by blocking the degradation of peptides such as substance P and bradykinin, besides enhancing kinin receptors signalling.

Fibromyalgia (FM) is one of the most common musculoskeletal pain conditions. Although the aetiology of FM is still unknown, mitochondrial dysfunction and the overproduction of reactive oxygen intermediates (ROI) are common characteristics in its pathogenesis. The reserpine experimental model can induce FM-related symptoms in rodents by depleting biogenic amines.
