Low back pain (LBP) is a highly prevalent disorder frequently related to biomechanical alterations. Movement pattern assessments have a role in the rehabilitation management of patients with LBP; however, a precise assessment is challenging in routine clinical settings. Thus, this study aims to assess the biomechanical alterations related to LBP through the development and application of an innovative assessment tool named CameraLab.

Although the pathological significance of myeloid cell heterogeneity is still poorly understood, new evidence indicates that distinct macrophage subsets are characterized by specific metabolic programs that influence disease onset and progression. Within this scenario, distinct subsets of macrophages, endowed with high rates of heme catabolism by the stress-responsive enzyme heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), play critical roles in physiologic and pathological conditions. Of relevance, the substrates of HO-1 activity are the heme groups that derive from cellular catabolism and are converted into carbon monoxide (CO), biliverdin and Fe2+, which together elicit anti-apoptotic, anti-inflammatory activities and control oxidative damage.

Cannabidiolic (CBDA) and cannabigerolic (CBGA) acids are naturally occurring compounds from Cannabis sativa plant, previously identified by us as dual PPARα/γ agonists. Since the development of multitarget-directed ligands (MTDL) represents a valuable strategy to alleviate and slow down the progression of multifactorial diseases, we evaluated the potential ability of CBDA and CBGA to also inhibit enzymes involved in the modulation of the cholinergic tone and/or β-amyloid production. A multidisciplinary approach based on computational and biochemical studies was pursued on selected enzymes, followed by behavioral and electrophysiological experiments in an AD mouse model.

Purpose: To investigate early changes in AMD by evaluating and comparing choriocapillaris (CC) flow in fellow eyes of patients with unilateral neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and in healthy controls using swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA).
Methods: Patients with unilateral nAMD and no/early/intermediate AMD (no/e/iAMD) in their fellow eye and normal controls who underwent SS-OCT and OCTA where included. CC perfusion was assessed on MATLAB as percentage of flow deficits (FD%) in the central 4.

Titanium and titanium alloys are the prevailing dental implant materials owing to their favorable mechanical properties and biocompatibility, but how roughness dictates the biological response is still a matter of debate. In this study, laser texturing was used to generate eight paradigmatic roughened surfaces, with the aim of studying the early biological response elicited on MC3T3-E1 pre-osteoblasts. Prior to cell tests, the samples underwent SEM analysis, optical profilometry, protein adsorption assay, and optical contact angle measurement with water and diiodomethane to determine surface free energy.

One of the aims of diagnostic nerve blocks is to identify the overactive muscles that lead to a specific spasticity pattern. However, to date, there is no evidence on how nerve blocks may affect botulinum neurotoxin-A (BoNT-A) dose in patients with spasticity. This case-control study aims to assess the role of diagnostic nerve block in defining BoNT-A starting dose at first treatment.

A novel Gd-MOF based on tetrafluoro-terephthalic acid has been synthesized and its structure has been solved using X-ray single crystal diffraction data. The compound, with the formula [Gd(FBDC)·HO]·DMF, is isostructural with other Ln-MOFs based on the same ligand and has been recently reported. Its crystals were also reduced to nanometer size by employing acetic acid or cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a modulator.

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a widely-known disease distinguished by the breakdown of joint cartilage, leading to pain and morning stiffness. In this context, the role of corticosteroids is well known, but there is still a gap of knowledge on the duty of oxygen-ozone therapy (O2-O3).
Objective: To evaluate for effectiveness of ultrasound-guided O2-O3 injections compared with corticosteroid injections among patients diagnosed with knee OA.

Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) represents a significant clinical challenge due to limited therapeutic options and poor prognosis. Beyond mere survivorship, setting up an effective framework to improve functioning and quality of life is an urgent need in the comprehensive management of MPM patients. Therefore, this study aims to review the current understanding of MPM sequelae and the effectiveness of rehabilitative interventions in the holistic approach to MPM.

Introduction: The early transcription unit 3 (E3) of human adenoviruses (HAdVs) encodes several immunoevasins, including the E3/49K protein, which is unique for species D of HAdVs. It is expressed as surface transmembrane protein and shed. E3/49K of HAdV-D64 binds to the protein tyrosine phosphatase surface receptor CD45, thereby modulating activation of T and NK cells.

The goal-setting process is pivotal in managing patients with disabling spasticity. This case-control study assessed the role of diagnostic nerve blocks in guiding the goal-setting process within goal-targeted treatment of spasticity with botulinum neurotoxin-A. In this case-control study, patients with disabling spasticity underwent either a goal-setting process based on the patient's needs and clinical evaluation (control group) or additional diagnostic nerve block procedures (case group).

Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) represents a significant health burden, with limited treatment options and poor prognosis. Despite advances in pharmacological and surgical interventions, the role of rehabilitation in MPM management remains underexplored. This study aims to assess the feasibility of a tailored pulmonary rehabilitation intervention addressing physical and respiratory function in MPM patients.

Permanent magnets (PMs) containing rare earth elements (REEs) can generate energy in a sustainable manner. With an anticipated tenfold increase in REEs demand by 2050, one of the crucial strategies to meet the demand is developing of efficient recycling methods. NdFeB PMs are the most widely employed, however, the similar chemical properties of Nd (20-30 % wt.

Introduction: Unlike the most common training approaches for bodybuilding, powerlifting programs are generally based on maximum and submaximal loads, putting enormous stresses on the lumbar spine. The flexion relaxation phenomenon evaluation is a clinical tool used for low back pain (LBP) assessment. This study aimed to evaluate the role of the flexion relaxation phenomenon in the analysis of LBP in the powerlifters.

Purpose: Trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis (TMC-OA) is a prevalent hand disorder affecting a growing number of people worldwide. While a multidisciplinary approach might provide additional advantages, the analgesic and anti-inflammatory role of intra-articular oxygen-ozone (OO) injections combined with physical therapy is still unknown. To assess the impact of a multimodal therapeutic approach combining OO injections with physical therapy in patients with TMC-OA.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to estimate the distribution of the true rates of progression (RoP) of visual field (VF) loss.
Methods: We analyzed the progression of mean deviation over time in series of ≥ 10 tests from 3352 eyes (one per patient) from 5 glaucoma clinics, using a novel Bayesian hierarchical Linear Mixed Model (LMM); this modeled the random-effect distribution of RoPs as the sum of 2 independent processes following, respectively, a negative exponential distribution (the "true" distribution of RoPs) and a Gaussian distribution (the "noise"), resulting in a skewed exGaussian distribution. The exGaussian-LMM was compared to a standard Gaussian-LMM using the Watanabe-Akaike Information Criterion (WAIC).

Background: Hemophilic arthropathy is a detrimental condition that crucially affects functional outcomes in hemophilic patients. In recent years, due to the advances in systemic therapies, growing attention has been raised in the rehabilitation field in order to improve functional outcomes of hemophilic patients. However, the optimal rehabilitation modalities in these patients are far from being fully characterized.
