Method: The 53 sets of plaster models were scored using the MHB index and scanned with a benchtop scanner.

Aim: This study´s aim was to assess whether the use of Short Message Service (SMS) text reminders sent to patients prior to their dental appointments improved attendance rates for two dentists at a dental access centre in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland.
Method: Automated SMS text reminders were set up through practice management software at Kirkcaldy Dental Access Centre. Two audits, using a research methodology, were then performed.

The objective of this study was to evaluate asymmetry of the parental craniofacial skeleton of subjects with a cleft lip, with or without cleft palate [CL(P)], and isolated cleft palate (CP). The postero-anterior (PA) cephalograms of 52 parents of children with CL(P) and 40 parents of children with CP from a sample of 196 children with non-syndromic clefts in the west of Scotland were analysed. A conventional cephalometric asymmetry analysis was used to evaluate size-related right:left asymmetry comprising eight linear distances, nine angular, and three facial area measurements.

As p53 expression has been associated with malignant disease its presence was assessed in biopsy specimens from dorsal lingual hyperkeratosis, taken over a five year period. p53 expression, using CM1, was assessed using a standard immunoperoxidase technique. p53 was not identified in the first biopsy specimen in 1986 but was identified in all subsequent ones.

A retrospective study was undertaken to assess mandibular fractures presenting over the period 1977-1985 in Dundee, Scotland. The data collected included age, sex, aetiology, month in which injury occurred, anatomical site of fracture, associated maxillofacial trauma and treatment modalities. The majority of fractures were sustained by males in the age group 20 to 29 years.
