Mumps is an acute contagious viral disease caused by paramyxovirus characterized by complications that include orchitis, oophoritis, aseptic meningitis, and spontaneous abortion among many others. This study reports high mumps IgG seropositivity among school-aged children in rural areas of the Mbeya region, information that might be useful in understanding the epidemiology of mumps and instituting appropriate control measures including vaccination. Between May and July 2023, a cross-sectional study involving 196 enrolled children aged 5-13 years was conducted.

Accredited Drug Dispensing Outlets dispensers (ADDO dispensers) have a crucial role in detecting and referring TB suspects. However, several studies highlight low knowledge of TB among ADDO dispensers. To facilitate this, the National TB and Leprosy Control Program trained ADDO dispensers on case identification and referral.

α-Synuclein (α-Syn)-positive intracellular fibrillar protein deposits, known as Lewy bodies, are thought to be involved in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD). Although recent lines of evidence suggested that extracellular α-Syn secreted from pathogenic neurons contributes to the propagation of PD pathology, the precise mechanism of action remains unclear. We have reported that extracellular α-Syn caused sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) receptor type 1 (S1PR1) uncoupled from Gi and inhibited downstream G-protein signaling in SH-SY5Y cells, although its patho/physiological role remains to be clarified.

: There are concerns with the current prescribing practices of antibiotics in ambulatory care in Tanzania, including both the public and private sectors. These concerns need to be addressed as part of the national action plan (NAP) of Tanzania to reduce rising antimicrobial resistance (AMR) rates. Issues and concerns include high rates of prescribing of antibiotics for essentially self-limiting conditions.

Exploration success relies heavily on the data obtained, but, significantly on the type of analytical methods deployed and the interpretation reached. A poorly analyzed data may obscure the true reflectivity of the data, and thus, compromised the decision made. A combined data processing approach of descriptive statistics, enrichment-depletion data normalization, geospatial elemental distribution, and stacked overlayed comparison of elements have been used in this study.

There is a need to identify risk factors, including nutrition-related factors, for depressive disorders among sub-Saharan African (SSA) adolescents. We examined the association of multiple measures with depressive symptoms among adolescents living across six SSA countries. Building on previous analyses, we used data from a cross-sectional study conducted from 2015 to 2017 among adolescents aged 10-19 years in six SSA countries (N = 7512).

Eco-friendly and cost-effective catalysts with multiple active sites, large surface area, high stability and catalytic activity are highly desired for efficient water splitting as a sustainable green energy source. Within this line, a facile synthetic approach based on solventless thermolysis was employed for the simple and tunable synthesis of NiMgFeO (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) nanosheets. The characterization of nanosheets (via p-XRD, EDX, SEM, TEM, HRTEM, and SAED) revealed that the pristine ferrites (NiFeO and MgFeO), and their solid solutions maintain the same cubic symmetry throughout the composition regulation.

Evaluation of land use and land cover (LULC) change is among vital tools used for tracking environmental health and proper resource management. Remote sensing data was used to determine LULC change in Bahi (Manyoni) Catchment (BMC) in central Tanzania. Landsat satellite images from Landsat 5 TM and Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS were used, and support vector machine (SVM) algorithm was applied to classify the features of BMC.

Introduction: Cardiac Dyssynchrony is prevalent among patients with heart failure with high cost of care and potentially poor outcomes. Nevertheless, little is known about cardiac dyssynchrony among heart failure patients, especially in developing countries. This study aims at assessing the predictors and outcomes of cardiac dyssynchrony among heart failure patients attending the cardiology department at Benjamin Mkapa Referral Hospital in Dodoma, central Tanzania.

Key Clinical Message: Sickle cell disease (SCD) rarely presents with acute soft head syndrome (ASHS) often posing a diagnostic dilemma. Recovery is typically spontaneous, however, in the context of lack of awareness and limited brain imaging it could potentially lead to poor outcome.
Abstract: ASHS is a rare complication of SCD, invariably occurring near puberty with hitherto elusive pathogenic mechanisms.

Study Objective: As stunting is the most perilous health and nutrition problem for children under five in rural poor households worldwide and CCT programs are normally used to reduce poverty through conditionalities, this study examines the effect of CCT program health conditionality on reducing stunting, considering the longer time perspective which lacks in most available evidence.
Study Design: This was quasi-experimental design.
Methods: The study used secondary household data kept by TASAF PSSN in Tanzania, coupled with corresponding children data from their respective clinic cards.
