Background: Odontogenic cysts of the jaws are pathologies that require timely recognition and management. The initial diagnosis is based on clinical and radiographic appearance and dental history. A variety of surgical treatments are used for odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) depending on the clinical and radiographic presentation.

Background: The objective of this study was to determine whether postoperative pager alerts to the Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP), a delirium prevention service, would accelerate program enrollment for older surgical patients. This study also tested feasibility of family care partner interventions for delirium prevention.
Methods: This single-center, pilot clinical trial factorially randomized 57 non-cardiac surgical patients ≥70 years of age to 4 arms: (1) standard care, (2) pager alerts to accelerate HELP enrollment, (3) family care partner-based delirium prevention interventions, or (4) a combined arm with both HELP and family interventions.

The professional identity of scientists has historically been cultivated to value research over teaching, which can undermine initiatives that aim to reform science education. Course-Based Research Experiences (CRE) and the inclusive Research and Education Communities (iREC) are two successful and impactful reform efforts that integrate research and teaching. The aim of this study is to explicate the professional identity of instructors who implement a CRE within an established iREC and to explore how this identity contributes to the success of these programs.

Objective: Evaluate whether a multi-strain probiotic formula affects blood parameters (hematologic, calcium, and phosphorus levels) and alters the expression of β-defensin-2, β-defensin-3, and toll-like receptor 4 in male rats with induced apical periodontitis (AP).
Design: Wistar rats were divided into two groups (n = 8 each): (1) rats with AP on a regular diet (Control) and (2) rats with AP on a regular diet supplemented with the multi-strain probiotic GNC Probiotic Complex (GCP) at one billion CFU. AP was induced by exposing the dental pulp of the first molars to the oral environment.

This article represents a prologue of the discussion of the article "Models of DEIB: Part II-Exploring Models of Inclusion from other Health Professions for Dentistry". It explores existing practices and philosophies from other disciplines that could be applied toward creating environments of inclusion and belonging in dentistry. The primary focus here is to provide an opportunity for the dental profession to leverage knowledge and experiences from other health professions to enhance and expand inclusion efforts and provide enhance engagement at all levels.

Dental caries among long-term care (LTC) residents is a persistent and complex problem driven by social and structural factors. Systems thinking may be useful in considering novel approaches to reducing disease. This study aimed to develop a system dynamics model to simulate the progression of dentate older adults in LTC through caries severity states and estimate the effects of 3 intervention scenarios on the progression of caries: preventive topical fluoride (TF), arrest of caries with silver diamine fluoride (SDF), and a combination of TF and SDF.

Introduction: This study aimed to explore the distribution of deformational plagiocephaly in subjects with Class I skeletal pattern and the relationships of cranial vault asymmetry with menton deviation, condylar anteroposterior (AP) position and condylar angulation using cone-beam computed tomography images.
Methods: Approximately 135 pretreatment records of patients with skeletal Class I growth patterns from the University of Detroit Mercy were examined using Anatomage Invivo6 software. The midsagittal plane constructed by nasion, incisive foramen, and basion was used to evaluate the asymmetry of the cranium vault, condyles, and menton deviation.

Background: This study used cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) via voxel-based superimposition to evaluate lip and incisor changes after orthodontic treatment with four premolar extractions (Ext) versus nonextraction (Non-Ext) among African American (AA) and White (W) patients.
Methods: A total of 240 CBCTs of 120 adolescent orthodontic patients with Class I skeletal/dental relationships were included. Patients were initially divided according to treatment, and then each group was subdivided according to patients' ethnicity (Ext/W = 30, Ext/AA = 30, Non-Ext/W = 30, and Non-Ext/AA = 30).

Background/objectives: The prevention of white spot lesions (WSLs) during orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances is of paramount importance to orthodontists. Numerous non-invasive techniques have been extensively researched to effectively manage WSLs. The objective of this study was to investigate the efficacy of MI varnish application, diode laser irradiation and their combination on remineralization of WSLs.

Enamel adhesion is acknowledged as durable; however, achieving long-lasting dentin adhesion remains a formidable challenge due to degradation of exposed collagen matrix after acid-etching of dentin. The idea of developing an enamel-like adhesion interface holds great promise in achieving enduring dentin adhesion. In this study, we constructed an enamel-like adhesion interface using a rapid remineralization strategy comprising an acidic primer and a rapid remineralization medium.

Genetic screens in have long been used to identify genes found in a variety of developmental, cellular, and behavioral processes. Here we describe the characterization and mapping of a mutation identified in a conditional screen for genetic regulators of cell growth and cell division. Within a Flp/FRT system, mutant results in a reduction of mutant tissue and a rough eye phenotype.

Purpose Of Review: The relationship between depression and personality has long been a topic of interest in the fields of psychiatry and psychology, but consensus remains elusive. This lack of consensus poses a significant challenge in both diagnosis and treatment, especially in situations when otherwise effective therapies for depression fail. Our article aims to address this issue by reviewing the historical and recent conceptualizations of the relationship between depression and personality pathology.

Purpose: To compare mechanical, optical, and physical properties of denture base materials fabricated with various 3D printing systems to reference milled and conventionally heat-processed denture base materials.
Materials And Methods: Specimens of denture base materials were either 3D-printed (DLP in-office printer, CLIP laboratory printer, or material jetting laboratory printer), milled, or heat processed. 3-point bend flexural strength testing was performed after 50 hours of water storage following 1hour of drying (dry testing) or in 37°C water (wet testing).

The mutation was generated in a Flp/FRT EMS screen for conditional mutations that cause growth and developmental defects in a genetic background that blocks apoptosis. The mutations were conditional, based on the allele being present on the starting chromosome, and blocking canonical apoptosis in a homozygous state. The mosaic eyes exhibit defects in eye development including patches of rough eye and irregular surface structure.
