Article Synopsis
  • The study compared the time efficiency and reliability of manual vs. AI-assisted segmentation of the mandibular canal and registration of scans by 20 clinicians with varying experience levels in implant planning.
  • Results showed that AI-assisted methods significantly reduced the time taken for these tasks (4.75 min manual vs. 2.03 min AI), while the accuracy was similar for both methods in terms of discrepancy measurements.
  • The findings suggest that AI tools can enhance implant planning efficiency without compromising accuracy, though further research is needed to confirm these results across different software and datasets.

The aim of this study was to evaluate how preset torque settings influence the torque, vertical force, and root canal-centering ability of ProGlider and ProTaper NEXT nickel-titanium rotary instruments in canals with different curvature locations. Based on micro-computed tomography, mesial roots of human mandibular molars (25°-40° curvature) were allocated to the apical curvature (apical 1-5 mm) or the middle curvature (apical 5-9 mm) groups, and mandibular incisors (curvature <5°) to the straight canal group. Each group was subjected to automated instrumentation and torque/force measurement with the preset torque of 1, 2.

Bifid Mandibular Canal: A Proportional Meta-Analysis of Computed Tomography Studies.

Int J Dent

March 2023

Department of Oral Biological Science, University of Dental Medicine, Mandalay, Mandalay Division, Myanmar.

Introduction: Growing body of evidences showed different grades in prevalence of bifid mandibular canals. Because the previous reviews focused solely on patient-level occurrence, hemi-mandible-level prevalence, bilateral symmetry, length, and diameter of bifid mandibular canals were required to be estimated collectively. The research question of this meta-analysis was "What is the prevalence of bifid mandibular canal among patients seeking computed tomography examinations"?

Materials And Methods: In vivo, computed tomography, and cross-sectional studies were eligible.

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, School of Dentistry, Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea.

Mucormycosis is a rare, invasive fungal infection that progresses aggressively and requires prompt surgery and appropriate treatment. The number of cases of mucormycosis in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients has recently increased, and patients with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus are particularly at an elevated risk of infection. This report presents a case of mucormycosis-related osteomyelitis of the maxilla in a 37-year-old man with diabetes mellitus.

Background/purpose: Angiogenesis is considered a crucial event for dental pulp regeneration. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate neovascularization during coronal pulp regeneration in rat molars using rat dental pulp cells (rDPCs) and to examine whether rDPC-endothelial cell interactions promote proangiogenic capacity .

Materials And Methods: Maxillary first molars of Wistar rats (n = 42) were pulpotomized and rDPCs isolated from incisors were implanted with a porous poly (l-lactic acid) (PLLA) scaffold and hydrogel (Matrigel).

Background: Mechanical stimuli induce the release of adenosine triphosphate into the extracellular environment by human periodontal ligament cells (hPDLCs). Extracellular adenosine triphosphate (eATP) plays the role in both inflammation and osteogenic differentiation. eATP involves in immunosuppressive action by increasing immunosuppressive molecules IDO and IFNγ expression on immune cells.

Introduction: Although numerous amounts of high-level evidence were present, they solely emphasized the tooth-level prevalence of three-rooted permanent mandibular first molar. Global patient-level prevalence and bilateral symmetrical distribution of this type of teeth were needed to be tackled across the world. The research question was "What is the global prevalence of three-rooted permanent mandibular first molars?"

Materials And Methods: In vivo epidemiological studies undergone with Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) were eligible.

Aim: To evaluate the effect of various rotational motions on the torque/force generation, surface wear, and shaping ability of the ProGlider glide path instrument (Dentsply Sirona).

Methodology: Mesiobuccal and mesiolingual canals of mandibular molars were selected based on the canal volume, length, angle of curvature (25°-40°), and radius of curvature (4-8 mm) after micro-computed tomographic scanning. The samples were randomly assigned to four groups (n = 13, each) according to movement kinematics [continuous rotation (CR; 300 rpm), optimum torque reverse motion (OTR; 180° forward and 90° reverse when torque >0.

July 2022

Division of Biomaterials, Prosthodontic Dentistry Department, Faculty of Dentistry, King Salman International University, El Tur, South Sinai, Egypt.

Durable resin-ceramic adhesion may influence the clinical success of ceramic restorations, which has been one of the challenging issues in dentistry. The present study assessed the bond strength and chemical interaction of 10-methacryloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (MDP), MDP+silane, and MDP-salt primers to alumina-blasted zirconia ceramic by tensile bond strength test, surface elemental composition with x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis, contact angle measurement, surface morphology with scanning electron microscopy, and surface topography with 3-dimensional confocal laser scanning microscope analyses. MDP-salt showed the highest tensile bond strength before and after thermocycling when compared with MDP and MDP+silane ( < 0.
