Production and Safety Department, Atomic Energy Commission, P.O. Box 6091, Damascus, Syria.

This work is dedicated to study the possibility of using UV-VIS spectrophotometer, a non-invasive technique with a versatile applications that is being used to determine the optical properties of matter, to estimate the CR-39 exposure to alpha particles. CR-39 detectors were exposed to alpha particles from two different alpha sources: Am and radon gas. Tracks densities on CR-39 were determined using the traditional counting method by an optical microscope.

Objective: To critically appraise and assess the currently observed evidence about the difference in orthodontic treatment duration between clear aligners and fixed appliances in crowding cases.

Materials And Methods: An electronic search without limitations was conducted from inception to June 2023 covering nine databases: The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, Trip, CINAHL via EBSCO, EMBASE via OVID and ProQuest. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and matched non-randomized studies were included in this systematic review.

Objectives: To evaluate the accuracy of a semi-automatic 3D digital setup process in predicting the orthodontic treatment outcome achieved by labial fixed appliances.

Subjects And Methods: Twenty-five adult patients (18 to 24 years old) with class I malocclusion and moderate crowding were prospectively enrolled and received treatment on both jaws through the straight-wire technique. Prior to treatment commencement, a semi-automatic digital setup simulating the predicted treatment outcome was performed for each patient through Orthoanalyzer software (3Shape®, Copenhagen, Denmark) to obtain the prediction model.

Objective To evaluate the relative efficacy of periodontally accelerated osteogenic orthodontics (PAOO) compared to conventional fixed appliances in correcting lower anterior teeth crowding using a non-extraction treatment approach. Material and methods A single-center, two-arm, parallel-group randomized controlled trial was conducted on 38 patients (9 males, 29 females) with moderate crowding. These patients did not require premolar extraction and were randomly allocated into two treatment groups: the PAOO group and the conventional orthodontic treatment group.

Background: It is imperative to analyze the forces and moments produced by various auxiliaries in order to select the optimal attachments and, eventually, to maximize the efficacy and efficiency of orthodontic therapy. Through this investigation, we aimed to highlight the impact of various aligner auxiliaries on orthodontic activity in patients undergoing orthodontic treatment on a pre/post treatment protocol basis.

Methods: After a thorough search of the online journals, a total of 482 documents were found using keywords such as "Orthodontic Treatment", "Aligner Auxiliaries", "Elastic Ligatures" and "Tooth Movement.

Background: The Syrian conflict has had a negative impact on the psychological and overall health of adolescents. However, little is known about the oral health of those who are internally displaced.

Aims: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between mental health state and self-reported oral health and habits in Syrian adolescents.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate whether there was a difference in the muscular activity of the masticatory muscles between patients with skeletal Class II and skeletal Class I malocclusion.

Materials And Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using a sample of 56 selected patients referred to the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthodontics, Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Damascus, Damascus, Syria. An electromyographic device measured the myoelectric activity of the perioral muscles on patients in the two created groups: the skeletal Class I malocclusion group (n=28 patients) and the skeletal Class II malocclusion group (n=28 patients).

Article Synopsis
  • * A study of 50 patients with hematological malignancies found that those with chemotherapy-induced neutropenia had a higher prevalence of oral lesions, particularly ulcers.
  • * The results showed a significant link between neutropenia and oral ulcers, but other types of oral lesions did not show a notable increase in severity.

There are various techniques and designs for springs used in orthodontic treatment, including frictionless methods for closing spaces. However, there is limited explicit evidence to support the superiority of one method over another. This review aims to investigate the available evidence and highlight the advantages of these different methods.

Background and objectives Recently, both surgical and non-surgical interventions have gained popularity in accelerating orthodontic tooth movement, but there is no randomized controlled trial (RCT) comparing both modalities in terms of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) during maxillary canine retraction. Therefore, this trial aimed to assess the PROMs associated with either low-level laser therapy (LLLT) or piezocision-assisted acceleration in the context of maxillary canine retraction. Materials and methods This was a single-blinded, single-center, three-arm RCT.

Background: Pain is an unpleasant experience and annoying sensation. To control this pain during orthodontic separation, different pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods have been used.

Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to critically assess the evidence of the effectiveness of pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods in reducing pain induced by orthodontic separation.

(1) Background: This study aimed to compare patient-reported outcome measures when accelerating en masse retraction between the piezocision procedure and the subsequent application of low-level laser therapy (FC+LLLT), with the piezocision alone (FC), and in a control group. (2) Methods: A three-arm randomized controlled trial (RCT) was conducted involving 60 patients (41 females and 19 males) with Class II division I malocclusion. The en masse retraction was performed using NiTi closed coil springs attached to miniscrews.

Background: There are several significant gaps in current studies of the relationship between anti-cancer medications and orthodontic care that call for more investigation. As a result, the main goals of this systematic review and meta-analysis were to summarise and assess the information that was available regarding the effect of radiotherapy and anti-cancer medications on the overall successful completion of an orthodontic treatment plan.

Methods: A standardised data extraction form was devised in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis, with specific criteria implemented for selecting studies with low to moderate risk of bias.

Methods for retracting the anterior teeth are divided into frictional methods and non-frictional methods. However, evidence regarding the superiority of one technique over the other is still lacking in the available literature. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the current evidence regarding the effectiveness of frictional methods of anterior teeth retraction compared to the non-frictional ones.

Due to the clear depiction of facial aesthetics and other craniofacial parameters, portraiture photography (PP) is becoming more and more necessary in modern clinical practice. The studies chosen for this review's inclusion looked at how PP affected the orthodontic treatment and diagnostic procedure on the subjects who were watched in the studies. Studies published within the last decade precisely from 2013 were searched for across major online databases after devising a proper search strategy.

  • Lutembacher's syndrome is a rare condition that combines atrial septal defect and mitral stenosis, which can sometimes alleviate symptoms caused by mitral stenosis.
  • A case study of a 70-year-old man highlighted that he had this syndrome along with a specific type of interatrial defect and unusual pulmonary vein drainage, with symptoms appearing only recently as mild shortness of breath.
  • The complexity of Lutembacher's syndrome makes it easy to miss in elderly patients, as congenital heart defects may not show symptoms until much later in life, despite their multifaceted impact on heart function.

Article Synopsis
  • Chromosomal abnormalities affect about 13.8% of infertile individuals, with pericentric inversion of chromosome 9 occurring in 1-3% of cases, but its role in infertility and pregnancy loss remains unclear.
  • A case study examines an Arab family where some members have the inv(9)(p22q13) inversion; the proband, a 35-year-old man, experiences primary infertility while a younger brother suffers from recurrent pregnancy losses.
  • The findings suggest that inv(9)(p22q13) may be a hereditary condition that presents a risk for recurrent pregnancy loss among affected family members.
