Medicinal properties of curcumin are widely published. Previously, researchers used curcuminoid mixture comprising three chemical forms, out of which, the highest quantity is the most active molecule-dimethoxy curcumin (DMC). Reduced bioavailability, poor aqueous solubility, and quick hydrolytic degradation of DMC have projected challenges limiting its therapeutic value.

Background: Antimicrobial use (AMU) in livestock is a debated topic, mainly due to the risk of associated development of antimicrobial resistance. There is focus on reducing AMU in the Danish pig production, which accounts for the largest proportion of AMU for animals in Denmark. Due to special restriction on AMU in organic pig production, the AMU in organic pig production is lower than in conventional pig production.

[51Cr]EDTA for measuring total and single nephron glomerular filtration rate in the rat.

Acta Physiol Scand

March 1995

Department of Medical Physiology, Panum Institute, University of Copenhangen, Denmark.

Clearance and micropuncture experiments were performed in halothane anaesthetized rats. The aim was a comparison of paired estimates of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) from the renal clearance of [51Cr]EDTA (C[51Cr]EDTA) with simultaneous estimates of polyfructosan ((Inutest) CIn), 3H,-and 14C-labelled inulin clearance (C[3H]In and C[14C]In, respectively) and proximal tubular fluid/plasma concentration ratios (TF/P) of [51Cr]EDTA and TF/P ratios of 14C-labelled inulin measured in the same samples. C[51Cr]EDTA correlated well with, but underestimated CIn by approximately 10%.

A panel of antigen-specific, major histocompatibility complex class I-restricted T cell hybridomas has been generated to examine the capacity of peptide/class I complexes to stimulate T cells at the molecular level. Peptide/class I complexes were generated in detergent solution, purified and quantitated. Latex particles were subsequently coated with known amounts of preformed complexes and used to stimulate the T cell hybridomas.

The purR gene encodes a repressor (PurR) controlling the synthesis of the enzymes of purine biosynthesis. The subunit of PurR was identified as a 38-kDa polypeptide by SDS/polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Analysis of a purR-lacZ transcriptional fusion indicated that purR expression is autoregulated.

Plasma morphine concentrations during chronic oral administration in patients with cancer pain.

Pain

July 1982

Department of Anaesthesia, Finsen Institute, University of Copenhangen, CopenhagenDenmark Department of Pharmacology, University of Copenhagen, CopenhagenDenmark.

Plasma concentrations of morphine were studied in 16 patients with chronic pain due to advanced cancer, treated with regular doses of morphine chloride by the oral route. Doses ranged from 20 to 125 mg every 4 h and a significant, positive, linear correlation was found between dose (range 0.22-3.
