Background: Combining immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) with chemotherapy has become a standard treatment for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) lacking driver gene mutations. Reliable biomarkers are essential for predicting treatment outcomes. Emerging evidence from various cancers suggests that early assessment of serum metabolites could serve as valuable biomarkers for predicting outcomes.

Bisboronic esters are critical compounds in various research fields, including drug discovery, chemical biology, and material sciences. Currently, the bisboronic esters with reactive functional groups are difficult to synthesize; this is partially due to the lack of a robust method to produce these products with diverse structures and various functional groups at specific locations. To overcome this issue, this study introduced a Ni-catalysis approach to produce bisboronic esters efficiently via cross-coupling and homocoupling using readily available halogenated boronic esters as the starting material under mild reaction conditions.

Background: The surgical outcomes for younger patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remain uncertain. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical features long-term survival outcomes in younger individuals with NSCLC following surgery.
Methods: We queried the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database from 2010 to 2017, selecting all pathologically confirmed NSCLC cases that underwent cancer-directed surgery.
Key Clinical Message: In a patient with metastatic breast cancer, an acquired BRCA mutation in the BRCA gene was detected, resulting in benefits from olaparib treatment. This underscores the importance of ongoing genetic phenotype testing after paclitaxel chemotherapy.

Background: Dysregulation of cholesterol metabolism is associated with the metastasis of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1) is widely recognized for its pivotal role in regulating cholesterol efflux and maintaining cellular cholesterol homeostasis. However, further exploration is needed to determine whether it inhibits TNBC metastasis by affecting cholesterol metabolism.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy, safety, and improvement of symptoms by ultrasound-guided microwave ablation (MWA) for patients with large benign thyroid nodules (BTNs).
Methods: Eighty-seven patients with 87 BTNs (≥ 4 cm) treated with MWA between April 2015 and March 2021 were enrolled in this retrospective multicenter study, with clinical and ultrasound examinations performed at the 1st, 3rd, 6th, and 12th months. The Silent Information Regulator 2 (SIR2) protein is widely implicated in antiviral response by depleting the cellular metabolite NAD. The defense-associated sirtuin 2 (DSR2) effector, a SIR2 domain-containing protein, protects bacteria from phage infection by depleting NAD, while an anti-DSR2 protein (DSR anti-defense 1, DSAD1) is employed by some phages to evade this host defense. The NADase activity of DSR2 is unleashed by recognizing the phage tail tube protein (TTP).

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a prevalent microvascular complication in diabetic patients that poses a serious risk as it can cause substantial visual impairment and even vision loss. Due to the prolonged onset of DR, lengthy treatment duration, and limited therapeutic effectiveness, it is extremely important to find a new strategy for the treatment of DR. Postbiotic is an emerging dietary supplement which consists of the inactivate microbiota and its metabolites.

Background: Although the Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA) is a reference standard used to assess a patient's nutrition status, it is cumbersome to administer. The aim of the present study was to estimate the value of a simpler and easier-to-use modified PG-SGA (mPG-SGA) to evaluate the nutrition status and need for intervention in patients with malignant tumors present in at least two organs.
Methods: A total of 591 patients (343 male and 248 female) were included from the INSCOC study.

Glycolytic metabolism is a hallmark of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), and tumor-associated stromal cells play important roles in tumor metabolism. We previously reported that tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) facilitate PDAC progression. However, little is known about whether TAMs are involved in regulating glycolysis in PDAC.

Noninvasive monitoring of cancer metastasis is essential to improving clinical outcomes. Molecular MRI (mMRI) is a special implementation of noninvasive molecular imaging that promises to offer a powerful means for early detection and analysis of pathological states of cancer by tracking molecular markers. However, this is often hindered by the challenging issue of obtaining transformable mMRI contrast agents with high sensitivity, specificity, and broad applicability, given the high tumor heterogeneity and complex metastatic features.

Tumor-resident microbiota in breast cancer promotes cancer initiation and malignant progression. However, targeting microbiota to improve the effects of breast cancer therapy has not been investigated in detail. Here, we evaluated the microbiota composition of breast tumors and found that enterotoxigenic Bacteroides fragilis (ETBF) was highly enriched in the tumors of patients who did not respond to taxane-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

APE1 is an essential gene involved in DNA damage repair, the redox regulation of transcriptional factors (TFs) and RNA processing. APE1 overexpression is common in cancers and correlates with poor patient survival. Stress granules (SGs) are phase-separated cytoplasmic assemblies that cells form in response to environmental stresses.

The microRNA-21 is closely related to chromatin remodeling and epigenetic regulation. In this work, an efficient double-response 3D DNA nanomachine (DRDN) was assembled by co-immobilizing two different lengths of hairpin DNA on the surface of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) to capture microRNA-21 (miRNA-21), recycle miRNA-21, and trigger hybridization chain reactions (HCR). This work reports the fabrication of a laser-scribed graphene (LSG) electrode with excellent flexibility and electrical conductivity by laser-scribing commercial polyimide films (PI).

The biological activities of nanoparticles (NPs), which include endocytosis by macrophages and subsequent intracellular degradation and/or release, transfer to other cells, or translocation across tissue barriers, highly depend on their fate in living organisms. Yet, translocation across barriers, especially the distal "barrier-crossing" trafficking of NPs, is still unclear. The exosome (Exo) plays a crucial role in intercellular communication and biological barrier trafficking.
