Background And Objectives: The available information on blood groups in the Chilean population is derived from studies on aboriginal cohorts and routine serological test results. The purpose of this study is to conduct a comprehensive analysis of genotypes, phenotypes and blood group alleles in donors from northern, central and southern Chile using molecular methods.
Materials And Methods: Overall, 850 samples from donors in northern, central and southern Chile were genotyped.

Objective: To investigate the prospective dose-response association of accelerometer-measured moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (PA;MVPA) with all-cause mortality and cardiovascular disease (CVD) incidence.
Methods: This prospective cohort of 76,074 participants from the UK Biobank study contained one week of individual accelerometer-based PA data collected between June 1, 2013 and December 23, 2015. Using restricted cubic splines to allow for potential non-linearity, we examined dose-response associations of MVPA with all-cause mortality and incident CVD, respectively.

Objectives: To assess the Quality of Life (QoL) of participants treated with dental bleaching using different techniques by administering two questionnaires Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) and Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetics Questionnaire (PIDAQ), as well as the bleaching efficacy and tooth sensitivity (TS).
Materials And Methods: Secondary results for nine randomized clinical trials were included, involving 489 participants who underwent bleaching procedures. The questionnaires were applied at baseline and 30-day post-bleaching.

Objective: To provide local policymakers with a guideline of potential actions to prevent the high consumption of Non-Nutritive Sweeteners (NNS) among children and adolescents observed in Chile, given the potential health problems related to NNS intake.
Design: The Delphi method was used for the evaluation of twenty-one recommendations to decrease the intake of NNS in paediatric population, with the participation of a panel of relevant actors.
Setting: The proposed recommendations were developed by the research team using the NOURISHING framework; potential actions were based on the increase in the use and intake of NNS by Chilean children, current local food regulations, recommendations of health organisations and foreign policy experiences.

Background: The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of two caregiving models on full-term healthy infants' wakefulness, rooting and sucking reflexes, initiation of breastfeeding, and physiological parameters when reunited with their mothers after a mother-infant separation of 130 min after elective cesarean birth.
Methods: Ninety-five mother-infant pairs participated in a randomized controlled trial, in which full-term healthy infants were allocated to be either dressed in their mothers' arms (n = 56) or skin-to-skin with their mother (n = 39) when reunited with the mother within 130 min after cesarean birth. Data were collected by the Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale (NBAS) to assess the infants' wakefulness and prebreastfeeding behaviors.

Objective: The aim was to examine the influence of HIIT protocol characteristics on anthropometrics, glycemic control, and CRF in T2DM patients and compare it to control (without exercise) and MICT.

The Equatorial Pacific Region (EPR) in Ecuador is characterized by high rates of vegetation diversity, and rapid loss of vegetation cover due to anthropogenic pressures. In this study, general ecological aspects of the Tabanidae family, including richness, endemism, and seasonality, were evaluated. Analyses reveal that approximately 42% of the species recorded for Ecuador are present in the EPR, and out of the 84 species cataloged in the EPR, 6 are endemic, representing an endemism of 7.

While physical activity and zinc supplementation have shown benefits in diabetes management, little is known about their effect on less severe glucose homeostasis disorders, such as impaired glucose tolerance. On the other hand, sirtuins have an important role in glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity, but to date, there is no information about the impact of zinc supplementation or physical activity on their regulation in individuals with impaired glucose homeostasis. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of supplemental zinc, muscle-resistance training, and their combination on the expression of selected sirtuins in insulin-sensitive tissues of rats with impaired glucose tolerance.

The discovery that the lung harbors a diverse microbiome, as revealed by next-generation sequencing, has significantly altered our understanding of respiratory health and disease. Despite the association between the lung microbiota and disease, the nature of their relationship remains poorly understood, and culture isolation of these microorganisms could help to determine their role in lung physiology. Current procedures for processing samples from the lower respiratory tract have been shown to affect the viability of microorganisms, so it is crucial to develop new methods to improve their survival.

The aim of this study is to validate the FIDBv2 online procedure for adult age-at-death estimation using root dentine translucency (RDT) and periodontal retraction (PR) of single-rooted teeth in a worldwide sample. Mine-tailing dumps are one of the leading sources of environmental degradation, often with public health and ecological consequences. Due to the complex ecosystems generated, they are ideal sites for exploring the bacterial diversity of specially adapted microorganisms. We investigated the concentrations of trace metals in solid copper (Cu) mine tailings from the Ovejería Tailings Dam of the National Copper Corporation of Chile and used high-throughput sequencing techniques to determine the microbial community diversity of the tailings using 16S rRNA gene-based amplicon sequence analysis.

Recently, a single-neuron degeneration model has been proposed to understand the development of idiopathic Parkinson's disease based on (i) the extremely slow development of the degenerative process before the onset of motor symptoms and during the progression of the disease and (ii) the fact that it is triggered by an endogenous neurotoxin that does not have an expansive character, limiting its neurotoxic effect to single neuromelanin-containing dopaminergic neurons. It has been proposed that aminochrome is the endogenous neurotoxin that triggers the neurodegenerative process in idiopathic Parkinson's disease by triggering mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, dysfunction of both lysosomal and proteasomal protein degradation, endoplasmic reticulum stress and formation of neurotoxic alpha-synuclein oligomers. Aminochrome is an endogenous neurotoxin that is rapidly reduced by flavoenzymes and/or forms adducts with proteins, which implies that it is impossible for it to have a propagative neurotoxic effect on neighboring neurons.

Stem cell transplantation into seminiferous tubules of recipient testis could become a tool for fertility restoration, genetic improvement, or conservation of endangered species. Spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) are primary candidates for transplantation; however, limited abundance, complexity for isolation and culture, and lack of specific markers have limited their use. Mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent progenitors that are simple to isolate and culture and possess specific markers for identification, and immune evasive and migratory capacities.
