We assess the Tropical Niche Conservatism Hypothesis in the genus in South America using phylogeny, paleoclimate estimation and current niche modelling. We tested four predictions: (1) the climatic condition where the ancestor of grew is megathermal; (2) the temperate niche is a derived condition from tropical clades; (3) the most closely related species have a similar current climate niche (conservation of the phylogenetic niche); and (4) there is a range expansion from the northern Andes to high latitudes during warm times. Our phylogenetic hypothesis shows that originated 52.

Santiago, Chile is a very segregated city, with higher childhood obesity rates observed in vulnerable areas. We compared the counts and proximity of unhealthy food outlets (UFOs) around a 400 m buffer of 443 public schools (municipal and subsidized) located in socioeconomically diverse neighborhoods in 14 municipalities of Santiago. This was a cross-sectional study in which the socioeconomic status (SES) of the population living inside the buffer was classified as middle-high, middle, and low.

Oxytetracycline (OTC), enrofloxacin (EFX), and sulfachloropyridazine (SCP) are critically important antimicrobials (AMs) in both human and veterinary medicine, where they are widely used in farm animals. Lettuce has become a matrix of choice for studying the presence of residues of these AMs in plants, as the concentrations of residues detected in lettuce can range from ng to mg. While several analytical methodologies have been developed for the purpose of detecting AMs in lettuce, these currently do not detect both the parent compound and its active metabolites or epimers, such as in the case of ciprofloxacin (CFX) and 4-epi-oxitetracycline (4-epi-OTC), which also pose a risk to public health and the environment due to their AM activity.

Cognitive studies on Parkinson's disease (PD) reveal abnormal semantic processing. Most research, however, fails to indicate which conceptual properties are most affected and capture patients' neurocognitive profiles. Here, we asked persons with PD, healthy controls, and individuals with behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD, as a disease control group) to read concepts (e.

Purpose: A critical task in oncology is extracting information related to cancer metastasis from electronic health records. Metastasis-related information is crucial for planning treatment, evaluating patient prognoses, and cancer research. However, the unstructured way in which findings of distant metastasis are often written in radiology reports makes it difficult to extract information automatically.

Background: Most patients with haematological malignancies who undergo allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) receive chemotherapy before the transplant to control the disease. Certain chemotherapy drugs can cause lung toxicity. Conversely, in patients with chronic respiratory conditions, the 6-min walking test (6MWT) and the desaturation-distance ratio (DDR) have demonstrated prognostic significance.

Magnetic-assisted robotic surgery (MARS) has been developed to maximize patient benefits of minimally invasive surgery while enhancing surgeon control and visualization. MARS platform (Levita Magnetics) comprises two robotic arms that provide control to an external magnetic controller and an off-the-shelf laparoscopic camera. Our aim was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the MARS platform in laparoscopic renal and adrenal procedure for the first time.

Introduction: The development of new materials and tools for radiology is key to the implementation of this diagnostic technique in clinics. In this work, we evaluated the differential accumulation of peptide-functionalized GNRs in a transgenic animal model (APPswe/PSENd1E9) of Alzheimer's disease (AD) by computed tomography (CT) and measured the pharmacokinetic parameters and bioaccumulation of the nanosystem.
Methods: The GNRs were functionalized with two peptides, Ang2 and D1, which conferred on them the properties of crossing the blood-brain barrier and binding to amyloid aggregates, respectively, thus making them a diagnostic tool with great potential for AD.

Sleep spindles (SSs) and K-complexes (KCs) are brain patterns involved in cognitive functions that appear during sleep. Large-scale sleep studies would benefit from precise and robust automatic sleep event detectors, capable of adapting the variability in both electroencephalography (EEG) signals and expert annotation rules. We introduce the Sleep EEG Event Detector (SEED), a deep learning system that outperforms existing approaches in SS and KC detection, reaching an F1-score of 80.

Background: Uniform random sampling of mass-balanced flux solutions offers an unbiased appraisal of the capabilities of metabolic networks. Unfortunately, it is impossible to avoid thermodynamically infeasible loops in flux samples when using convex samplers on large metabolic models. Current strategies for randomly sampling the non-convex loopless flux space display limited efficiency and lack theoretical guarantees.

Microbes influence cancer initiation, progression and therapy responsiveness. IL-17 signaling contributes to gut barrier immunity by regulating microbes but also drives tumor growth. A knowledge gap remains regarding the influence of enteric IL-17-IL-17RA signaling and their microbial regulation on the behavior of distant tumors.

Objective: Sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) are heavily advertised globally, and SSB consumption is linked to increased health risk. To reduce unhealthy food marketing, Chile implemented a regulation for products classified as high in energies, sugar, saturated fat or sodium, starting with a 2016 ban on child-targeted advertising of these products and adding a 06.00-22.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of prolonged (P) polymerization time of a universal adhesive system applied in etch-and-rinse (ER) or self-etch (SE) strategies on the clinical performance of restorations in non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs), after 36 months of clinical service.
Methods: A total of 140 restorations were randomly placed in 35 subjects according to the polymerization time groups: ER (10 s); ER-P (40 s); SE (10 s); and SE-P (40 s) at 1,200 mW/cm. Composite resin was placed incrementally.

Unlabelled: Fracture-related infection (FRI) is a common complication following open tibia fracture (OTF), especially in patients with high-energy trauma or comorbidities. The use of gentamicin-coated nail (GCN) has been proposed as a local adjuvant to prevent FRI in high-risk patients.
Hypothesis: The incidence of FRI is expected to be lower in OTF treated with a GCN, alongside with no detrimental effects on fracture healing time.

Background And Aim: The excessive accumulation of lipid droplets (LDs) is a defining characteristic of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The interaction between LDs and mitochondria is functionally important for lipid metabolism homeostasis. Exercise improves NAFLD, but it is not known if it has an effect on hepatic LD-mitochondria interactions.

Oxytetracycline (OTC) is administered in the poultry industry for the treatment of digestive and respiratory diseases. The use of OTC may contribute to the selection of resistant bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract of birds or in the environment. To determine the effect of OTC on the selection of resistant strains post-treatment, bacteria were isolated from droppings and litter sampled from untreated and treated birds.

In situations where breastfeeding is impractical, milk formulas have emerged as the primary choice for infant nutrition. Numerous global studies have scrutinized the fluoride content in these formulas, uncovering fluctuations in fluoride levels directly associated with the method of preparation. This variability poses a potential risk of elevated fluoride concentrations and, consequently, an increased susceptibility to dental fluorosis in infants.
