Study Objectives: This study examined the impact of central disorders of hypersomnolence (CDH) on family members of adult patients, the ways family members assist with managing CDH, and family members' utilization and satisfaction with information and support.
Methods: Participants were adults (N=100) with an adult family member diagnosed with idiopathic hypersomnia or narcolepsy. They completed a survey which included the Family Reported Outcome Measure (FROM-16), checklists, satisfaction ratings, and open-response questions.

Unlabelled: APC 4099, isolated from bees' gut, has been identified as a promising candidate for food biopreservation. Antimicrobial activity screening revealed a broad-spectrum inhibition potential, ranging from gram-positive pathogenic bacteria to fungi responsible for food spoilage. Genomic analysis identified biosynthetic gene clusters coding for several antimicrobial peptides and secondary metabolites.

Background: Chondrosarcomas of the larynx, relatively rare tumors with low grade pathology in approximately 95% of cases, can most often be managed with conservation laryngeal procedures. Dedifferentiated chondrosarcomas are much more rare and aggressive requiring more aggressive surgical extirpation.
Methods: A patient underwent three debulking procedures for a laryngeal chondrosarcoma Grade I/II histologically over a 2.

Background: Several social and biological factors are shown to differentially affect stroke outcomes between men and women. We evaluated whether clinical outcomes and endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) treatment effects differed between the sexes in patients presenting with large ischemic stroke.
Methods: The SELECT2 trial (A Randomized Controlled Trial to Optimize Patient's Selection for Endovascular Treatment in Acute Ischemic Stroke) was a randomized controlled trial assessing the efficacy and safety of EVT in patients with large strokes across the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand between October 2019 and September 2022.

Introduction: Primary care providers or clinicians (PCPs) have the potential to assist dermatologists in screening patients at risk for skin cancer, but require training to appropriately identify higher-risk patients, perform skin checks, recognize and biopsy concerning lesions, interpret pathology results, document the exam, and bill for the service. Very few validated dermatology training programs exist for PCPs and those that are available focus primarily on one emphasis area, which results in variable efficacy and single-topic limited scope.
Methods: We have created a free, online, continuing education program (Melanoma Toolkit for Early Detection, MTED) that allows learners to choose from a variety of multimedia tools (image recognition, videos, written material, in-person seminars, self-tests, etc.

Introduction: Empathy is a fundamental element of high-quality healthcare, though it has been shown to be in decline among medical students and residents. Appeals have therefore been made for the development of evidence-based empathy-enhancing experiential learning and training models. Bringing Art to Life (BATL) is a service-learning program designed within experiential learning pedagogy for psychology and pre-healthcare students.

Knowledge of microbiology-related issues in dentistry is fundamental to clinical practice and patient care. The purpose of this literature review is to comprehensively describe the roles microbes play in pediatric dental practice, with a special focus on eight continuing and emerging microbiological issues related to waterline safety, dental material contamination, effects of oral bacteria on systemic health, antibiotic resistance, continuing COVID-19 findings and risks associated with animal-assisted therapies. Key points are highlighted on each topic, with current reports demonstrating microbial impacts on human health and clinical settings.

To assess the effectiveness of Biodentine (BD), mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and ferric sulfate (FS) as pulpotomy agents in primary molars and evaluate the impact of behavior guidance strategies on pulpotomy success. In this retrospective cross-sectional study, data from 374 cases (50.5 percent male, aged two to 10 years) undergoing 469 pulpotomies at a university pediatric clinic between April 1, 2016 and January 1, 2020 were analyzed.

Vitamin C deficiency, colloquially known as scurvy, has become rare in modern times due to the widespread availability of ascorbic acid-rich foods. Despite this, it continues to be a concern in certain at-risk populations. The purpose of this report is to describe the case of a two-year-old girl who initially presented to a pediatric dental clinic with the chief complaint of hypertrophic gingiva and bleeding.

Background: Gastrostomy tube (GT) placement is one of the most common procedures performed by pediatric surgeons; however, no current national clinical data registry exists to assess GT-specific care processes and morbidity. The American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Surgical Quality Improvement Program-Pediatric (NSQIPPed) GT Pilot was created to provide participants with these data. This study aims to analyze these data to identify variability in perioperative practices and post-operative morbidity in pediatric GT operations and to provide targets for future quality improvement (QI) interventions.

Background: Previous studies have demonstrated associations of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) with sex-related hormones; however, findings were inconsistent. Sex-specific impacts and pathways through which adiposity influences associations are not completely understood. We sought to evaluate sex-specific associations of POPs serum concentration with sex-related hormones and to explore pathways through which adiposity may modify associations.

Background: Symptomatic rotator cuff tears often undergo surgical repair, which may be paired with various augmentation strategies to enhance structural healing rates. While many randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluate augmentation techniques, the statistical robustness of many findings in these studies is unknown. This systematic review aims to evaluate the continuous fragility index (CFI) of RCTs on augmentation techniques for rotator cuff repairs.

Introduction: Many patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) undergo anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF). Many of these patients are readmitted, but there is no clear understanding of drivers of readmission. The aim of this study was to assess the patient- and hospital-level factors that contribute to 7-, 30-, and 90-day readmissions after treatment of CSM.
