Background: The variability in patients' risk of oral mucositis (OM) has been, in part, attributed to differences in host genomics. The aim better define the role of genomics as an OM risk by investigating the association between genetic variants and the presence and severity of OM in pediatric patients with osteosarcoma (OS) undergoing chemotherapy (CT).
Methods: A longitudinal observational retrospective study was conducted.

A Cu-TiO nanomaterial with unique antibacterial and photocatalytic properties is introduced in this study. Cu-TiO nanocomposites were obtained using an adapted direct current magnetron sputtering apparatus, where TiO anatase nanoparticles (NPs) were used as the substrates and copper as the sputtering target. The obtained powder was characterized by physical and chemical methods.

Background: The quality of the doctor-patient relationship plays a crucial role in patients' experiences with healthcare services, positively influencing clinical outcomes and satisfaction with care. The Patient-Doctor Relationship Questionnaire (PDRQ-9) is widely used to assess this relationship. However, there are no quality categories that can be derived from the instrument's score to facilitate understanding and decision-making.

Despite the steady progress of research on the alkali activation of wastes or subproducts from established industrial processes, the brittleness of the hardened alkali-activated materials frequently results in questionable mechanical reliability, particularly in industrial applications beyond construction materials. This work used a 3 factorial Design of Experiments to examine the effect of three different particle size distributions on the compressive strength and mechanical reliability (Weibull modulus) of a sodium silicate-activated blast-furnace slag under the same processing conditions. As expected, curing temperature and time were strongly correlated, and the corresponding response surfaces showed that, for all studied particle sizes, compressive strengths above 60 MPa with mechanical reliability above 5.

To ensure the content and stability of its bioactive compounds postharvest, suitable drying protocols must be adopted to provide high-quality raw materials for industrial use. This study aimed to analyze the influence of freeze-drying and oven-drying on the total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), antioxidant activity (FRAP and DPPH assays), total carotenoid content (TC), and lipase (LA) and protease activity (PA) of samples collected over the seasons in sea farms in southern Brazil.

Value-added bioproducts are linked to the expansion of lignocellulosic biorefineries based on agro-industrial waste and local economic growth. Thus, the aim of this study was to pretreat rice hull (RH), a highly recalcitrant biomass, with saturated steam and convert it to lactic acid (LA). Strategically, the individual fractions and the blend of detoxified liquor and water-insoluble solids were used as substrate in the simultaneous saccharification and co-fermentation (SSCF) by wild-type bacteria.

Anhedonia induced by sustained stress exposure is a hallmark symptom of major depressive disorder (MDD) and in rodents, it can be accessed through the sucrose preference test (SPT). (R)-ketamine is a fast-acting antidepressant with less detrimental side effects and abuse liability compared to racemic ketamine. The present study combined high-throughput proteomics and network analysis to identify molecular mechanisms involved in chronic variable stress (CVS)-induced anhedonia and promising targets underlying (R)-ketamine rapid antidepressant response.

Background: Endometritis is the leading cause of subfertility in horses, and it is a clinical problem where historically antibiotics have not always been used with prudent justification. Because of this, alternative therapies to treat endometritis are necessary for the rational use of antibiotics.
Objectives: To assess the in vitro antimicrobial activity of non-traditional therapies commonly used in clinical practice against microorganisms causing infectious endometritis in mares.

Oral mucositis (OM) is a prevalent acute adverse effect of various cancer treatments. Accurate assessment of OM is vital for effective prevention and treatment strategies. However, a lack of validated pediatric instruments for evaluating OM can lead to unreliable data, and hinder interventional and epidemiological research.

The use of biofertilizers is becoming an economical and environmentally friendly alternative to promote sustainable agriculture. Biochar from microalgae/cyanobacteria can be applied to enhance the productivity of food crops through soil improvement, slow nutrient absorption and release, increased water uptake, and long-term mitigation of greenhouse gas sequestration. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the stimulatory effects of biochar produced from Spirulina () biomass on the development and seed production of rice plants.

Wood is a versatile material extensively utilized across industries due to its low density, favorable mechanical properties, and environmental benefits. However, despite considerable research, the diversity in species with varying compositions and properties remains insufficiently explored, particularly for native woods. A deeper understanding of these differences is crucial for optimizing their industrial applications.

Coal is a mixture of several chemicals, many of which have mutagenic and carcinogenic effects and are a key contributor to the global burden of mortality and disease. Previous studies suggest that coal is related to telomeric shortening in individuals occupationally exposed, however little is known about the effects of mining and burning coal on the telomeres of individuals living nearby. Therefore, the primary objective of this investigation was to assess the impact of proximity to coal power plants and coal mines on the genomic instability of individuals environmentally exposed, while also exploring potential associations with individual characteristics, oxidative stress, inflammatory responses, and the presence of inorganic elements.
