University of São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil.
Background: This study investigated the effects of cognitive stimulation on older adults over 18 months through a randomized clinical trial with 190 participants divided into Training Group (TG), Active Control Group (ACG), and Passive Control Group (PCG). Initial sociodemographic characterization (Table 1) ensured homogeneity among the groups. The clinical trial design aimed to assess the long-term impacts of multicompartment cognitive stimulation on the cognitive function of older adults in the TG.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that has become increasingly prevalent around the world and can be characterized in vivo by amyloid-beta peptide and hyperphosphorylated tau protein. Subjective cognitive decline (SCD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) are potential previous stages of AD dementia. Behavioral and psychological symptoms are common in SCD and MCI, but their biological basis is still not clarified.

Parmigiano Reggiano protected designation of origin (PDO) cheese inherently exhibits variability due to the characteristics of the production system, contributing to heterogeneity in the composition and properties of milk used in the cheese-making process. This variability leads to variations in cheese yield and nutrient recoveries. The direct measurement of these traits is not feasible in routine practice.

Problem: COVID-19 during pregnancy is linked to increased maternal morbidity and a higher incidence of preterm births (PTBs), yet the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Cellular senescence, characterized by the irreversible cessation of cell division, is a critical process in placental function, and its dysregulation has been implicated in pregnancy complications like PTB. Senescence can be induced by various stressors, including oxidative stress, DNA damage, and viral infections.

J-domain proteins (JDPs) are essential cochaperones of heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70), as they bind and deliver misfolded polypeptides while also stimulating ATPase activity, thereby mediating the refolding process and assisting Hsp70 in maintaining cellular proteostasis. Despite their importance, detailed structural information about JDP‒Hsp70 complexes is still being explored due to various technical challenges. One major challenge is the lack of more detailed structural data on full-length JDPs.

Body composition abnormalities are prognostic markers in several types of cancer, including colorectal cancer (CRC). Using our data distribution on body composition assessments and classifications could improve clinical evaluations and support population-specific opportune interventions. This study aimed to evaluate the distribution of body composition from computed tomography and assess the associations with overall survival among patients with CRC.

This study investigated the effect of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) on bone healing around implants placed in elevated sinus cavities. Forty New Zealand albino rabbits were divided into eight groups, based on the time of sacrifice (14 or 40 days) and the material used: blood clot (control), hydroxyapatite (HA) from bovine bone, HA combined with PRF, and PRF alone. Each group consisted of five animals (n = 5).

This study aimed to identify whether there is an ideal concentration for applying ozonized oil (OZ) in the post-exodontic alveoli of senescent rats treated with zoledronate (ZOL). Thirty-five female rats, aged 18 months, were divided into five groups: ZOL; ZOL+OZ500; ZOL+OZ600; ZOL+OZ700; and SAL. The groups treated with ZOL, and other concentrations of OZ received applications at a dose of 100 μg/kg, while the SAL group received saline.

Wound healing is a complex process involving a sequence of factors that can be disrupted, negatively impacting the quality of life for patients and overburdening healthcare systems. Advanced dressings obtained by electrospinning are highlighted by the optimization of this process, allowing air exchange and protection against microorganisms. Aiming to develop bioactive dressings, this study investigated the physicochemical, mechanical, microbiological, and in vitro biological properties of membranes containing 25 %, 50 %, 75 %, and 90 % copaiba oil (CO) co-electrospun with poly(L-co-D,L-lactic acid) (PLDLA) and natural rubber latex (NR).

Background: White coat effect (WCE) is a phenomenon linked to increased cardiovascular risk, where office blood pressure readings exceed home or ambulatory measurements. Excess weight and elevated blood pressure or glucose are associated with WCE in type 2 diabetes (T2D). This study compared dapagliflozin and glibenclamide on WCE in T2D patients under equivalent blood pressure and glucose control.

Objective: Given the urgent need for improved diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), this review aims to explore the intricate interplay between OSCC and alterations in glucose metabolism, with a particular focus on the pivotal role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in this context.
Material And Methods: Data were extracted from a vast literature survey by using PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science search engines with relevant keywords.
Results: In OSCC, miRNAs exert regulatory control over the expression of genes involved in glucose metabolism pathways.

Background: Elucidating the intricacies of the sugarcane genome is essential for breeding superior cultivars. This economically important crop originates from hybridizations of highly polyploid Saccharum species. However, the large size (10 Gb), high degree of polyploidy, and aneuploidy of the sugarcane genome pose significant challenges to complete genome sequencing, assembly, and annotation.

Aims: The term ovarian carcinoma (OC) refers to a heterogeneous collection of five distinct diseases known as histotypes. While histotype-specific treatment is still a clinical challenge in OC, well-characterized models are required for testing new therapeutic strategies. We employed OncoTherad® (MRB-CFI-1), an interferon (IFN-γ)-stimulating nano-immunotherapy mediated by Toll-like receptors (TLR) 2/4, in association or not with Erythropoietin (EPO) in a chemically-induced ovarian cancer model.

Barley (Hordeum vulgare) is widely used in the production of beer and distilled beverages, generating a nutrient-rich by-product known as brewer's spent grain (BSG). This study investigates the potential of brewer's spent grain flour (BSGF) as a functional ingredient to enhance the nutritional profile of bakery products, specifically chocolate cakes, while contributing to waste reduction in the food industry. The effects of partially substituting wheat flour with BSGF at 40% and 60% levels were assessed.

Friedreich's Ataxia (FRDA) is the most common autosomal recessive ataxia worldwide and is caused by biallelic unstable intronic GAA expansions at FXN. With its limited therapy and the recent approval of the first disease-modifying agent for FRDA, the search for biological markers is urgently needed to assist and ease the development of therapies. MiRNAs have emerged as promising biomarkers in various medical fields such as oncology, cardiology, epilepsy and neurology as well.
