Objectives: This study aimed to characterize the survival of patients with sebaceous carcinoma (SC) of the eyelids according to demographics and other variables.
Methods: Patients with SC of the eyelids from 2004 to 2017 were identified in the National Cancer Database. Demographic and clinical covariates were assessed.

Patients starting with physical rehabilitation often hold unrealistically high expectations for their recovery. Because of a lower-than-expected rate of recovery, such unrealistic goals have been linked to adverse effects on mental health. Additionally, overtraining due to overly ambitious goals can lead to suboptimal recovery.

We use global airborne observations of propane (CH) and ethane (CH) from the Atmospheric Tomography (ATom) and HIAPER Pole-to-Pole Observations (HIPPO), as well as U.S.-based aircraft and tower observations by NOAA and from the NCAR FRAPPE campaign as tracers for emissions from oil and gas operations.

Tissues and organs are composed of many diverse cell types, making cell-specific gene expression profiling a major challenge. Herein we report that endogenous enzymes, unique to a cell of interest, can be utilized to enable cell-specific metabolic labeling of RNA. We demonstrate that appropriately designed "caged" nucleosides can be rendered active by serving as a substrate for cancer-cell specific enzymes to enable RNA metabolic labeling, only in cancer cells.

We present an exact two-component (X2C) ansatz for the EPR tensor using gauge-including atomic orbitals (GIAOs) and a magnetically balanced basis set expansion. In contrast to previous X2C and four-component relativistic ansätze for the tensor, this implementation results in a gauge-origin-invariant formalism. Furthermore, the derivatives of the relativistic decoupling matrix are incorporated to form the complete analytical derivative of the X2C Hamiltonian.

l-3,4-Dihydroxyphenylalanine (l-DOPA), the dopamine precursor, remains the frontline treatment for Parkinson's disease (PD). With the treatment progress, l-DOPA efficacy decreases, necessitating higher and more frequent doses, with higher risks of dyskinesia. l-DOPA chelates iron through its catechol group, forming the l-DOPA:Fe complex; however, the fate of this complex is unknown.

Patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) are at high risk for dyskalemias, which may induce arrhythmias that require immediate emergent or hospital care. The association of dyskalemias with short-term hospital/emergency room (ER) visits in advanced CKD is understudied. To assess the association of dyskalemias with short-term hospital/ER visits in an advanced CKD population.

Progressive deterioration of kidney function in chronic kidney disease (CKD) is mediated by hypertension, oxidative stress, inflammation, and fibrosis. Renin-angiotensin blockade is commonly used to retard CKD progression. In addition, vasoactive peptides have been shown to reduce blood pressure and exert antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic effects.

The entorhinal cortex (EC) has bidirectional connections with the hippocampus and plays a critical role in memory formation and retrieval. EC is one of the most vulnerable regions in the brain in early stages of Alzheimer's disease (AD), a neurodegenerative disease with progressive memory impairments. Accumulating evidence from healthy behaving animals indicates gamma oscillations (30-100 Hz) as critical for mediating interactions in the circuit between EC and hippocampus.

Delineation of underlying genomic and genetic factors in a specific disease may be valuable in establishing a definitive diagnosis and may guide patient management and counseling. In addition, genetic information may be useful in identification of at risk family members. Gene mapping and initial genome sequencing data enabled the development of microarrays to analyze genomic variants.

The human superior temporal sulcus (STS) is responsive to visual and auditory information, including sounds and facial cues during speech recognition. We investigated the functional organization of STS with respect to modality-specific and multimodal speech representations. Twenty younger adult participants were instructed to perform an oddball detection task and were presented with auditory, visual, and audiovisual speech stimuli, as well as auditory and visual nonspeech control stimuli in a block fMRI design.

To better understand encoding and decoding of stimulus information in two specific hippocampal sub-regions, we isolated and co-cultured rat primary dentate gyrus (DG) and CA3 neurons within a two-chamber device with axonal connectivity via micro-tunnels. We tested the hypothesis that, in these engineered networks, decoding performance of stimulus site information would be more accurate when stimuli and information flow occur in anatomically correct feed-forward DG to CA3 vs. CA3 back to DG.

Use of alcohol and tobacco, the two most concurrently abused drugs, typically first occurs during adolescence. Yet, there have been no systematic analyses of ethanol (EtOH) and nicotine (Nic) interactions during adolescence. Recent animal studies report that -opioid (KOR) receptor activation mediates age differences in drug reinforcement.

Anatomical and behavioral studies, and in vivo and slice electrophysiology of the hippocampus suggest specific functions of the dentate gyrus (DG) and the CA3 subregions, but the underlying activity dynamics and repeatability of information processing remains poorly understood. To approach this problem, we engineered separate living networks of the DG and CA3 neurons that develop connections through 51 tunnels for axonal communication. Growing these networks on top of an electrode array enabled us to determine whether the subregion dynamics were separable and repeatable.

It is well established that obesity decreases overall life expectancy and increases the risk of several adverse health conditions. Mounting evidence indicates that body fat is likely also associated with structural and functional brain changes, reduced cognitive function, and greater impulsivity. However, previously reported differences in brain structure and function have been variable across studies and difficult to reconcile due to sample population and methodological differences.
