The thymus, a key organ in the adaptive immune system, is sensitive to a variety of insults including cytotoxic preconditioning, which leads to atrophy, compression of the blood vascular system, and alterations in hemodynamics. Although the thymus has innate regenerative capabilities, the production of T cells relies on the trafficking of lymphoid progenitors from the bone marrow through the altered thymic blood vascular system. Our understanding of thymic blood vascular hemodynamics is limited due to technical challenges associated with accessing the native thymus in live mice.

Accurately modeling absorption and fluorescence spectra for molecules in solution poses a challenge due to the need to incorporate both vibronic and environmental effects, as well as the necessity of accurate excited state electronic structure calculations. Nuclear ensemble approaches capture explicit environmental effects, Franck-Condon methods capture vibronic effects, and recently introduced ensemble-Franck-Condon approaches combine the advantages of both methods. In this study, we present and analyze simulated absorption and fluorescence spectra generated with combined ensemble-Franck-Condon approaches for three chromophore-solvent systems and compare them to standard ensemble and Franck-Condon spectra, as well as to the experiment.

Understanding the central nervous system (CNS) circuitry and its different neurotransmitters that underlie reward is essential to improve treatment for many common health issues, such as addiction. Here, we concentrate on understanding how the mesolimbic circuitry and neurotransmitters are organized and function, and how drug exposure affects synaptic and structural changes in this circuitry. While the role of some reward circuits, like the cerebral dopamine (DA)/glutamate (Glu)/gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA)ergic pathways, in drug reward, is well known, new research using molecular-based methods has shown functional alterations throughout the reward circuitry that contribute to various aspects of addiction, including craving and relapse.

The jaws and their supporting cartilages are tessellated in elasmobranchs and exhibit an abrupt increase in stiffness under compression. The major jaw-supporting cartilage, the hyomandibula, varies widely by shape and size and the extent of the load-bearing role is hypothesized to be inversely related to the number of craniopalatine articulations. Blood coagulation is a network of biochemical reactions wherein dozens of proteins act collectively to initiate a rapid clotting response. Coagulation reactions are lipid-surface dependent, and this dependence is thought to help localize coagulation to the site of injury and enhance the association between reactants. Current mathematical models of coagulation either do not consider lipid as a variable or do not agree with experiments where lipid concentrations were varied.

There is a large experimental and theoretical literature on the angular momentum fine structure of the lowest energy exciton in InP-based quantum dots. This literature is highly contradictory, and no clear picture of the fine structure accounting for all these results is available. This paper presents a quantitative analysis of recently published luminescence anisotropy results and presents an analysis of the different proposed fine structure models that compares radiative lifetimes calculated from those models with experimental values.
