Objectives: The appointment of pediatric emergency care coordinators (PECC) in emergency departments (EDs) enhances pediatric readiness, yet little is understood regarding this workforce. We describe PECC role characteristics, responsibilities, barriers, and threats to the role among a national cohort.
Methods: We surveyed a sample of PECCs from all regions of the United States who participated in the Emergency Medical Services for Children PECC Workforce and Trauma Collaboratives (2021-2022).
Importance: Despite the high burden of respiratory infections among children, the production of exhaled particles during common activities and the efficacy of face masks in children have not been sufficiently studied.
Objective: To determine the effect of type of activity and mask usage on exhaled particle production in children.
Methods: Healthy children were asked to perform activities that ranged in intensity (breathing quietly, speaking, singing, coughing, and sneezing) while wearing no mask, a cloth mask, or a surgical mask.

Unlabelled: To generalize findings on the mechanisms and prognosis in Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD), it is critical for ADRD research to be representative of the population. Sociodemographic and health characteristics across ethnoracial groups included in the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center sample (NACC) were compared to the nationally representative Health and Retirement Study (HRS). Baseline NACC data ( = 36,639) and the weighted 2010 HRS wave ( = 52,071,840) were included.

However, we seldom ask how each situation contributes to the global structure of a population, and whether different situations contribute different information about social relationships and the position of individuals within the social fabric. Griffon vultures () interact socially in multiple situations, including communal roosting, joint flights, and co-feeding.

Objectives: Undergraduate ultrasound education is becoming increasingly important, but its expansion is limited by time, space and the availability of trained faculty. In order to validate an alternative and more accessible teaching model, our aim was to assess whether combining teleguidance and peer-assisted learning to teach ultrasound is as effective as traditional in-person methods.
Methods: Peer instructors taught 47 second-year medical students ocular ultrasound either teleguidance or traditional in-person methods.
Unlabelled: Evidence-based medicine (EBM) has been defined as a process involving five actions: asking, acquiring, appraising, applying, and assessing. Several attempts have been made to create and validate tools to assess EBM aptitude. The newest testing instrument, the ACE tool, which is a 15-question true/false exam, has not been directly compared to the more established Fresno test, which is composed of 12 in-depth short-answer questions.

Methods: Eligible HCV viraemic adults from two clinics in Kyiv were treated with LDV/SOF with or without weight-based ribavirin for 12 weeks. Clinical assessments were performed at screening and at week 24, and as needed; treatment was dispensed every 4 weeks.

Study Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine if there is a proximity effect of high-acuity, pediatric-capable emergency departments (EDs) on the weighted pediatric readiness score of neighboring general EDs and whether this effect is attributable to specific components of the National Pediatric Readiness Guidelines.
Methods: Pediatric readiness was assessed using the weighted pediatric readiness score of EDs based on the 2013 National Pediatric Readiness Project assessment. High-acuity, pediatric-capable EDs were defined as those with a separate pediatric ED and inpatient pediatric services, including the following: pediatric ICU, pediatric ward, and neonatal ICU.
Macitentan is an oral endothelin receptor antagonist for the management of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). The OPsumit® USers Registry (OPUS) and the OPsumit® Historical USers cohort (OrPHeUS) medical chart review provide real-world data for patients newly initiating macitentan. This study aims to describe the characteristics, safety profile, and clinical outcomes of PAH patients newly treated with macitentan in the combined OPUS/OrPHeUS data set.

Methods: Between February 25, 2019 and April 24, 2021, 325 patients were enrolled in the EDs of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC). Patients deemed clinically intoxicated or in withdrawal by an attending emergency physician were considered for eligibility.

Objectives: Reinke's edema is a chronic disease of the respiratory tract that occurs in adults with a history of chronic smoke exposure. Also known as polypoid corditis, polypoid laryngitis, and polypoid degeneration of the vocal fold, it is strongly associated with smoking, frequently with vocal misuse/abuse, and occasionally with laryngopharyngeal reflux. Reinke's edema remains a cause of chronic dysphonia that is difficult to manage.

In response, several institutions have established programs in which student volunteers are integrated into department workflows to increase clinical research output and introduce pre-health students to careers in medicine. One such program, the student volunteer clinical research program, presently consists of over 40 undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student volunteers who screen, consent, and enroll patients into prospective studies in the ED of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Ronald Reagan Medical Center.

As promising low-dimensional semiconductor materials, cesium lead halide (CsPbX, X = Cl, Br, I) perovskite-like nanowires (NWs) can be widely applied to the field of semiconductor devices and integrated optoelectronics. Therefore, developing a facile and efficient synthesis method of cesium lead halide perovskite-like NWs can bring both fundamental and practical impacts to the field of optoelectronics. Here, we developed a synthesis strategy of all-inorganic cesium lead halide CsPbI perovskite-like NWs under catalyst-free, solution-phase, and low-temperature conditions.

The degree of matching, however, can vary, among others due to different selective pressures affecting the communication components. For evolutionary novelties, strong selective pressures are likely to act upon the signal and receptor to promote a tight match among them.

Given wide variation in clinical placement practices, an evidence-based approach is needed to guide programs in setting realistic and attainable goals for students. This study's goal was to describe patient encounters and hours logged by paramedic students during clinical placements.
