Background: Interventions facilitated by caregivers have gained popularity among those caring for young children with autism. Instructing caregivers on specific techniques to foster social communication skills in their at-risk or diagnosed autistic children has the potential to alleviate concerns about their children's development. Moreover, it can offer a more intensive early intervention compared to what community providers alone can deliver.

Despite the abundance of proposed solutions, including publicly available benchmarks, it is difficult to assess which tool is most suitable for plant species, which commonly have complex genomic histories.
Methods: We explored the performance of four orthology inference algorithms-OrthoFinder, SonicParanoid, Broccoli, and OrthNet-on eight Brassicaceae genomes in two groups: one group comprising only diploids and another set comprising the diploids, two mesopolyploids, and one recent hexaploid genome.
Objective: Assessing the quality of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination-related content on TikTok is crucial due to its popularity among adolescents. We assessed these videos while comparing the content and quality of videos with and without physician involvement.
Study Design: Cross-sectional cohort analysis.
Acute cutaneous presentations in immunocompromised patients demand careful and thorough evaluation. Here, we present the case of a 26-year-old female with acute myeloid leukaemia undergoing salvage chemotherapy, who developed an acutely expanding subcutaneous mass starting on the frontotemporal scalp to the angle of the jaw. Histopathologic evaluation was consistent with sclerosing fat necrosis with overlying psoriasiform spongiotic dermatitis.

Glucagon-like peptide-2 (GLP2) acts on the GLP2 receptor (GLP2R) and plays a role in intestinal growth and adaptation. The endogenous actions of GLP2R do not have an established association with human disease, although mouse-knockout models in a stressed state show enhanced susceptibility to small bowel injury, increased morbidity, mortality, and abnormal host-bacterial interactions. We report an 11-month-old female with multiple intensive care unit admissions for severe metabolic acidosis due to profuse nonbloody diarrhea in the context of various infections.

Successful nerve repair using bioadhesive hydrogels demands minimizing tissue-material interfacial mechanical mismatch to reduce immune responses and scar tissue formation. Furthermore, it is crucial to maintain the bioelectrical stimulation-mediated cell-signaling mechanism to overcome communication barriers within injured nerve tissues. Therefore, engineering bioadhesives for neural tissue regeneration necessitates the integration of electroconductive properties with tissue-like biomechanics.

Otolaryngologists frequently serve as the first touchpoint for patients presenting with dermatologic conditions of the head and neck. This study aims to identify and quantify gaps in dermatologic training among otolaryngology residents, and to assess their diagnostic accuracy in comparison to dermatology residents. It comprised 14 multiple-choice questions focused on common dermatologic diagnoses related to the head and neck.

Opioid use disorder (OUD) has emerged as a significant public health crisis affecting individuals across all age groups. However, there remains a critical gap in understanding the specific nuances and challenges associated with OUD in pediatric populations. This article provides a comprehensive review of the epidemiology, definition of OUD, screening recommendations for OUD, and evidence-based management strategies for OUD in pediatric patients.

Objective: Safe home tracheostomy care requires engagement and troubleshooting by patients, who may turn to online, AI-generated information sources. This study assessed the quality of ChatGPT responses to such queries.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, ChatGPT was prompted with 10 hypothetical tracheostomy care questions in three domains (complication management, self-care advice, and lifestyle adjustment).
Objective: Evaluate ergonomic differences of various modalities for performing middle ear surgery.
Study Design: Observational study.
Setting: Two academic tertiary care centers.

Parkinsonian disorders, including Parkinson's disease (PD), multiple system atrophy (MSA), dementia with Lewy body (DLB), corticobasal syndrome (CBS) and progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) are often misdiagnosed due to overlapping symptoms and the absence of precise biomarkers. Furthermore, there are no current methods to ascertain the progression and conversion of prodromal conditions such as REM behaviour disorder (RBD). Extracellular vesicles (EVs), containing a mixture of biomolecules, have emerged as potential sources for parkinsonian diagnostics.

Through a review of current research, standards of care, and best practices, this paper serves as a resource for emergency physicians (EPs) caring for persons who identify as transgender and gender diverse (T/GD) in the emergency department (ED). Both patient- and physician-based research have identified existent potential knowledge gaps for EPs caring for T/GD in the ED. T/GD have negative experiences related to their gender identity when seeking emergency medical care and may even delay emergency care for fear of discrimination.

Objectives: Cisplatin is known to cause inner ear dysfunction. There is growing evidence that cisplatin-induced demyelination of spiral or Scarpa's ganglion neurons may play an additional role in drug-induced ototoxicity alongside afferent neuron injury. As Schwann cells produce myelin, there may be an opportunity to reduce ototoxic inner ear damage by promoting Schwann cell viability.

Objectives: This article seeks to characterise reasons that HS patients do not keep their appointments and identify strategies to minimise no-show rates and improve delivery of care to HS patients.

Objective: We sought to assess trends in emergency medicine residency program director (PD) length of service over the past 40 years and evaluate relationships between duration of service and important factors such as PD start year, geographic region, and year of program initial accreditation.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed program data from the American Medical Association Graduate Medical Education Directory and Emergency Medicine Residents' Association Match database. We calculated descriptive statistics and used linear regression to assess the impact of PD start year, region, and year of program initial accreditation on PD duration of service.

Recent increases in pediatric and adolescent opioid fatalities mandate an urgent need for early consideration of possible opioid exposure and specific diagnostic and management strategies and interventions tailored to these unique populations. In contrast to adults, pediatric methods of exposure include accidental ingestions, prescription misuse, and household exposure. Early recognition, appropriate diagnostic evaluation, along with specialized treatment for opioid toxicity in this demographic are discussed.

Although not all academic institutions require faculty to maintain an EP, it can serve as a valuable tool for both personal reflection and professional advancement. With newer advancements in technology and social media, there are also opportunities to enhance the EP for the digital era.

In addition, women are historically underrepresented within the specialty at all levels of training and practice. We sought to understand how clinical experiences and perceptions of EM influence specialty selection by medical students, particularly women.

We simultaneously face costly resistance to social changes, such as those required to resolve human-wildlife conflicts and conserve biodiversity and the biosphere. Viewing resistance as a force that impedes change from one state to another, we suggest that an analysis of biological resistance can provide unique and potentially testable insights into understanding resistance to social changes.
