Unlabelled: Quantitative total-body PET imaging of blood flow can be performed with freely diffusible flow radiotracers such as O-water and C-butanol, but their short half-lives necessitate close access to a cyclotron. Past efforts to measure blood flow with the widely available radiotracer F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) were limited to tissues with high F-FDG extraction fraction. In this study, we developed an early-dynamic F-FDG PET method with high temporal resolution kinetic modeling to assess total-body blood flow based on deriving the vascular transit time of F-FDG and conducted a pilot comparison study against a C-butanol reference.

Background: California is a leading agricultural state and with that, has significant applications of pesticides. Levels of exposure have been measured to be higher among residents in agricultural areas, but measures of personal inhalation exposure to a wide range of pesticides are lacking. Community members in the San Joaquin Valley have expressed concern over pesticide exposures.

Purpose: During kinematically aligned (KA) total knee arthroplasty (TKA), the surgeon may need to rectify an over-resection of the medial, lateral or posterior tibia. This study tested the hypothesis that a bone graft taken from the tibial resection or patella and impacted beneath a tibial baseplate would heal, regardless of whether the tibial component and knee were in outlier ranges according to mechanical alignment (MA) criteria. The study also tested the hypothesis that the Oxford Knee Score (OKS) and Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score for Joint Replacement (KOOS JR) would improve beyond the substantial clinical benefit and that the source and thickness of the bone graft would not influence their improvement.

Flower drop is a major cause for yield loss in many crops. Previously, we found that the tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) INFLORESCENCE DEFICIENT IN ABSCISSION-Like (SlIDL6) gene contributes to flower drop induced by low light. However, the molecular mechanisms by which SlIDL6 acts as a signal to regulate low light-induced abscission remain unclear.

A pioneering 4-channel, high-k poloidal, millimeter-wave collective scattering system has been successfully developed for the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST). Engineered to explore high-k electron density fluctuations, this innovative system deploys a 270 GHz mm-wave probe beam launched from Port K and directed toward Port P (both ports lie on the midplane and are 110° part), where large aperture optics capture radiation across four simultaneous scattering angles. Tailored to measure density fluctuations with a poloidal wavenumber of up to 20 cm-1, this high-k scattering system underwent rigorous laboratory testing in 2023, and the installation is currently being carried out on EAST.

Discrimination-aware classification methods remedy socioeconomic disparities exacerbated by machine learning systems. In this paper, we propose a novel data pre-processing technique that assigns weights to training instances in order to reduce discrimination without changing any of the inputs or labels. While the existing reweighing approach only looks into sensitive attributes, we refine the weights by utilizing both sensitive and insensitive ones.

During the floral transition, many plant species including chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium) require continuous photoperiodic stimulation for successful anthesis. Insufficient photoperiodic stimulation results in flower bud arrest or even failure. The molecular mechanisms underlying how continuous photoperiodic stimulation promotes anthesis are not well understood.

Coffee is a critical agricultural commodity and is used to produce premium beverages enjoyed by people worldwide. The microbiome of coffee beans has proven to be an essential tool that improves the flavor profile of coffee by creating aromatic flavor compounds through natural fermentation. This study investigated the natural microbial consortium during the wet process fermentation of coffee onsite in Thailand in order to identify the correlation between microbial diversity and biochemical characteristics including flavor, aroma, and metabolic attributes.

ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters are transmembrane proteins expressed commonly in metabolic and excretory organs to control xenobiotic or endobiotic disposition and maintain their homeostasis. Changes in ABC transporter expression may directly affect the pharmacokinetics of relevant drugs involving absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) processes. Indeed, overexpression of efflux ABC transporters in cancer cells or bacteria limits drug exposure and causes therapeutic failure that is known as multidrug resistance (MDR).

One of the key factors influencing aging and morbidity is the overall antioxidant status and regenerative capacity. In examining contributors to the antioxidant status, we analyzed the thiamine status in felines and the influence of age, gender, and body condition score. We measured erythrocytic B-dependent specific transketolase (STKT) activity, an enzyme in the pentose phosphate pathway, in a group of 60 sexually intact, healthy, and specific pathogen-free felines (44 females, 16 males, aged 1-17 years) with thiamine diphosphate (TDP; 0.

The behavior of many plant enzymes depends on the metals and other ligands to which they are bound. A previous study demonstrated that tobacco Rubisco binds almost equally to magnesium and manganese and rapidly exchanges one metal for the other. The present study characterizes the kinetics of Rubisco and the plastidial malic enzyme when bound to either metal.

Selfish genetic elements contribute to hybrid incompatibility and bias or 'drive' their own transmission. Chromosomal drive typically functions in asymmetric female meiosis, whereas gene drive is normally post-meiotic and typically found in males. Here, using single-molecule and single-pollen genome sequencing, we describe Teosinte Pollen Drive, an instance of gene drive in hybrids between maize (Zea mays ssp.

Background: MARCKS (myristoylated alanine-rich C kinase substrates) serves as a substrate for protein kinase C, residing in the plasma membrane while acts as an actin filament crosslinking protein. This investigation aims to elucidate phosphorylated MARCKS (p-MARCKS) levels and activity in allergic asthma patients and explore the therapeutic potential of peptide inhibitors targeting p-MARCKS in an acute mouse model of allergic asthma.
Methods: Immunohistochemistry and histology staining were employed on lung tissue slides to evaluate p-MARCKS expression and allergic asthma symptoms.

Blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption is involved in the pathogenesis and progression of many neurological and systemic diseases. Non-invasive assessment of BBB permeability in humans has mainly been performed with dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging, evaluating the BBB as a structural barrier. Here, we developed a novel non-invasive positron emission tomography (PET) method in humans to measure the BBB permeability of molecular radiotracers that cross the BBB through different transport mechanisms.

Direct sound printing (DSP), an alternative additive manufacturing process driven by sonochemical polymerization, has traditionally been confined to a single acoustic focal region, resulting in a voxel-by-voxel printing approach. To overcome this limitation, we introduce holographic direct sound printing (HDSP), where acoustic holograms, storing cross-sectional images of the desired parts, pattern acoustic waves to induce regional cavitation bubbles and on-demand regional polymerization. HDSP outperforms DSP in terms of printing speed by one order of magnitude and yields layerless printed structures.

We have explored a strategy to identify potential proton transfer channels using computational analysis of a protein structure based on Voronoi partitioning and applied it for the analysis of proton transfer pathways in redox-driven proton-pumping respiratory complex I. The analysis results in a network of connected voids/channels, which represent the dual structure of the protein; we then hydrated the identified channels using our water placement program Dowser++. Many theoretical water molecules found in the channels perfectly match the observed experimental water molecules in the structure; some other predicted water molecules have not been resolved in the experiments.
