Importance: Acute kidney injury (AKI) occurs commonly during diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) in children, but the underlying mechanisms and associations are unclear.

The genetic landscape of crystallins in congenital cataract.

Background: The crystalline lens is mainly composed of a large family of soluble proteins called the crystallins, which are responsible for its development, growth, transparency and refractive index. Disease-causing sequence variants in the crystallins are responsible for nearly 50% of all non-syndromic inherited congenital cataracts, as well as causing cataract associated with other diseases, including myopathies. To date, more than 300 crystallin sequence variants causing cataract have been identified.

Ophthalmic timolol solution is increasingly being repurposed as a topical therapeutic for a variety of dermatologic diseases, including pyogenic granulomas, infantile hemangiomas, and chronic wounds. There are no published guidelines or protocols for use in these indications in adults, and the dermatologic community may not be familiar with adverse events that have been extensively documented relating to its ophthalmic use. We review the evidence available relating to adverse events to topical timolol use to evaluate its safety in dermatologic applications and to alert clinicians to screening and monitoring that is needed when repurposing this drug for dermatologic use.

In plant cytokinesis, de novo formation of a cell plate evolving into the new cell wall partitions the cytoplasm of the dividing cell. In our earlier chemical genomics studies, we identified and characterized the small molecule endosidin-7, that specifically inhibits callose deposition at the cell plate, arresting late-stage cytokinesis in arabidopsis. Endosidin-7 has emerged as a very valuable tool for dissecting this essential plant process.

"DIC" is a form of vascular microthrombotic disease characterized by "microthrombi" composed of platelets and unusually large von Willebrand factor multimers (ULVWF). Reduced functionality of transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) is a major pathogenetic component of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The reduction is caused by an ≈50% decrease in the AD brain of the TGF-β receptor, TGFBR, causing a bottleneck effect that reduces the downstream actions of TGF-β, which is highly disadvantageous for brain function. Purpose: In previous analyses of the MURANO study, fixed-duration venetoclax plus rituximab (VenR) resulted in improved progression-free survival (PFS) compared with bendamustine plus rituximab (BR) in patients with relapsed or refractory chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Interventions: Participants were randomized such that the consistent meal timing (CMT) group was instructed to eat 3 structured meals per day, and the time-restricted eating (TRE) group was instructed to eat ad libitum from 12:00 pm until 8:00 pm and completely abstain from caloric intake from 8:00 pm until 12:00 pm the following day.
