The weakly ionized plasma in the Earth's ionosphere is controlled by a complex interplay between solar and magnetospheric inputs from above, atmospheric processes from below, and plasma electrodynamics from within. This interaction results in ionosphere structuring and variability that pose major challenges for accurate ionosphere prediction for global navigation satellite system (GNSS) related applications and space weather research. The ionospheric structuring and variability are often probed using the total electron content (TEC) and its relative perturbations (dTEC).

Background: Patients with acute coronary syndrome without standard modifiable cardiovascular risk factors (SMuRFs; hypertension, smoking, dyslipidemia, diabetes) have not been well studied, with little known about their characteristics, quality of care, or outcomes. We sought to systematically analyze patients with ACS without SMuRFs, especially to evaluate the effectiveness of guideline-directed medical therapy for these patients.
Methods And Results: In the CCC-ACS (Improving Care for Cardiovascular Disease in China-Acute Coronary Syndrome) project (2014-2019), we examined the presence and absence of SMuRFs and features among 89 462 patients with initial acute coronary syndrome.

Antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) are a well-established therapeutic modality based on RNA interference, but low cellular uptake, limited ability to direct ASO trafficking, and a range of intracellular barriers to successful activity compromise both gene silencing outcomes and clinical translations. Herein, we demonstrate that polymers can increase ASO internalisation intracellular trafficking pathways that are distinct from lipid-based delivery reagents. For the first time, we spatially define internalisation and dissociation stages in the polymer-mediated cytosolic delivery of ASOs using Nanoscale Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (NanoSIMS), which enables visualisation of ASO localisation at the organelle level.

Water scarcity results in an inevitable compromise of safe hygiene and sanitation practices, leading to the transmission of water-borne infectious diseases, and the preventable deaths of over 800.000 people each year.

Adding pulse oximetry features (ie, perfusion data and radiofemoral pulse delay) may improve CCHD detection, especially coarctation of the aorta (CoA). We developed and tested a machine learning (ML) pulse oximetry algorithm to enhance CCHD detection.

Quadrane sesquiterpenes featuring a distinctive tricyclic skeleton exhibit potent antimicrobial and anticancer activities. Although extensive studies have attempted to reveal the multistep carbocation rearrangement involved in the formation of the tricyclic quadrane scaffold, the exact biosynthetic pathway and chemical logic to generate the quadrane structure remains mysterious. Here we identified a novel sesquiterpene synthase that is capable of generating β-terrecyclene possessing the quadrane scaffold and characterized the biosynthetic pathway of a representative fungal quadrane terrecyclic acid.

Methods And Results: We assessed temporal trends from 2002 to 2015 in IVT for acute ischemic stroke in the Nationwide Inpatient Sample using adjusted, surveyweighted logistic regression.
Background: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has been associated with ischemic heart disease in women veterans, but evidence for associations with other cardiovascular disorders remains limited in this population. This retrospective longitudinal cohort study evaluated the association of PTSD with incident stroke/transient ischemic attack (TIA) in women veterans.
Methods And Results: Veterans Health Administration electronic health records were used to identify women veterans aged ≥18 years engaged with Veterans Health Administration health care from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2019.

Intracellular singlet oxygen (O) generation and detection help optimize the outcome of photodynamic therapy (PDT). Theranostics programmed for on-demand phototriggered O release and bioimaging have great potential to transform PDT. We demonstrate an ultrasensitive fluorescence turn-on sensor-sensitizer-RGD peptide-silica nanoarchitecture and its O generation-releasing-storing-sensing properties at the single-particle level or in living cells.

The pore structures of hardened Portland/slag cement pastes (>75 wt% slag content), and the initial capillary absorption of moisture through these pores, were monitored using synchrotron X-ray computerised microtomography and quantitative neutron radiography. The pore structure becomes more constricted as the cement hydrates and its microstructure develops. This mechanism was effective even at a slag content as high as 90 wt% in the cementitious blend, where the lowest total porosity and a significant pore refinement were identified at extended curing ages (360 d).

Background: Mitral regurgitation (MR) is the most common valvular disease in the United States and increases the risk of death and hospitalization. The economic burden of MR in the United States is not known.
Methods And Results: We analyzed inpatient hospitalization data from the 1 221 173 Maryland residents who had any in-state admissions from October 1, 2015, to September 30, 2019.

In recent years, a number of bulk materials and heterostructures have been explored due their connections with exotic materials phenomena emanating from flat band physics and strong electronic correlation. The possibility of realizing such fascinating material properties in simple realistic nanostructures is particularly exciting, especially as the investigation of exotic states of electronic matter in wire-like geometries is relatively unexplored in the literature. Motivated by these considerations, we introduce in this work carbon Kagome nanotubes (CKNTs)-a new allotrope of carbon formed by rolling up Kagome graphene, and investigate this material using specialized first principles calculations.

Significant evidence suggests that the failure of clinically tested epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors ( erlotinib, lapatinib, gefitinib) in glioblastoma (GBM) patients is primarily attributed to insufficient brain penetration, resulting in inadequate exposure to the targeted cells. Molecular imaging tools can facilitate GBM drug development by visualizing drug biodistribution and confirming target expression and localization. To assess brain exposure PET molecular imaging, we synthesized fluorine-18 isotopologues of two brain-penetrant EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors developed specifically for GBM.

Standard of care echocardiography can have limited diagnostic accuracy in certain cases of fetal congenital heart disease. Prenatal cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging has potential to provide additional anatomic imaging information, including excellent soft tissue images in multiple planes, improving prenatal diagnostics and in utero hemodynamic assessment. We conducted a literature review of fetal CMR, including its development and implementation into clinical practice, and compiled and analyzed the results.

We studied populations of house wrens, , at high and low elevations in California and Costa Rica, collecting data on clutch size, the duration of incubation and nestling periods, parental attentiveness, nestling growth rate, and nesting success. Our data support results from cross-species comparisons, but also revealed unanticipated results from low elevation temperate zone house wrens in the southwest.

We report a human-in-the-loop implementation of the multi-objective experimental design a Bayesian optimization platform (EDBO+) towards the optimization of butylpyridinium bromide synthesis under continuous flow conditions. The algorithm simultaneously optimized reaction yield and production rate (or space-time yield) and generated a well defined Pareto front. The versatility of EDBO+ was demonstrated by expanding the reaction space mid-campaign by increasing the upper temperature limit.

Background Cardiovascular disease risk stratification is necessary and critically important in patients with type 2 diabetes. Despite its known benefits to guide treatment and prevention, we hypothesized that providers do not routinely incorporate this into their diagnostic and treatment decisions. Methods and Results The QuiCER DM (QURE CVD Evaluation of Risk in Diabetes Mellitus) study enrolled 161 primary care physicians and 80 cardiologists.
