Primary myelofibrosis (PMF) is an uncommon chronic myeloproliferative disorder that is commonly associated with Janus kinase 2 (JAK-2), calreticulin (CALR), or thrombopoietin receptor (MPL) mutations. Pre-fibrotic PMF (also known as pre-PMF or early PMF) is a subtype of PMF that is defined by a lower grade of fibrosis. In this report, we present a rare case of warm autoimmune hemolytic anemia (wAIHA) associated with pre-PMF.

The Multifaceted Roles of Neutrophil Death in COPD and Lung Cancer.

J Respir Biol Transl Med

March 2025

Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Department of Medicine, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA 90033, USA.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer are closely linked, with individuals suffering from COPD at a significantly higher risk of developing lung cancer. The mechanisms driving this increased risk are multifaceted, involving genomic instability, immune dysregulation, and alterations in the lung environment. Neutrophils, the most abundant myeloid cells in human blood, have emerged as critical regulators of inflammation in both COPD and lung cancer.

The GD-1 Stellar Stream Perturber as a Core-collapsed Self-interacting Dark Matter Halo.

Astrophys J Lett

January 2025

Carnegie Observatories, 813 Santa Barbara Street, Pasadena, CA 91101, USA;

The GD-1 stellar stream exhibits spur and gap structures that may result from a close encounter with a dense substructure. When interpreted as a dark matter subhalo, the perturber is denser than predicted in the standard cold dark matter (CDM) model. In self-interacting dark matter (SIDM), however, a halo could evolve into a phase of gravothermal collapse, resulting in a higher central density than its CDM counterpart.

Case report: High-grade serous tubo-ovarian carcinoma with fusion and insights into targetability.

Front Oncol

December 2024

Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, David Geffen School of Medicine, University of California, Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA, United States.

fusion is one of the classes of emerging therapeutic targets of precision oncology and is observed in many solid tumor types. Our understanding of oncogenic mechanisms and therapy effects of molecular targets tends to reflect those occurring in overrepresented tumor types, posing a challenge in therapy planning of the same targets occurring in unusual tumor types. We present a case of a primary high-grade serous tubo-ovarian carcinoma with a novel fusion, an exceedingly rare combination of tumor type and fusion class, with an unusually short-lived response to futibatinib.
