Myositis International Health and Research Collaborative Alliance (MIHRA) is a newly formed purpose-built non-profit charitable research organization dedicated to accelerating international clinical trial readiness, global professional and lay education, career development and rare disease advocacy in IIM-related disorders. In its long form, the name expresses the community's scope of engagement and intent. In its abbreviation, MIHRA, conveys linguistic roots across many languages, that reflects the IIM community's spirit with meanings such as kindness, community, goodness, and peace.

Oxidative stress in the bivalve Diplodon chilensis under direct and dietary glyphosate-based formulation exposure.

The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the effects on biochemical parameters and organosomatic indices in the freshwater bivalve Diplodon chilensis exposed to a glyphosate-based formulation under direct and dietary exposures (4 mg a.p./L).

Challenging Popular Belief, Mosquito Larvae Breathe Underwater.

Immature mosquitoes are thought to breathe only atmospheric air through their siphons despite reports of prolonged submerged survival. We studied the survival of last-instar larvae of fully submerged at different temperatures and measured the oxygen consumption from air and water-dissolved larvae and pupae of this species under different conditions. Larvae survived much longer than expected, reaching 50% mortality only after 58, 10, and 5 days at 15°, 25°, and 35 °C, respectively.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has brought significant mental health challenges, particularly for vulnerable populations, including non-binary gender individuals. The COMET international study aimed to investigate specific risk factors for clinical depression or distress during the pandemic, also in these special populations.

Methods: Chi-square tests were used for initial screening to select only those variables which would show an initial significance.

Protocol for FRAP-based estimation of nuclear import and export rates in single yeast cells.

Here, we present a protocol for estimating nuclear transport parameters in single cells. We describe steps for performing four consecutive fluorescence recovery after photobleaching experiments, fitting the obtained data to an ordinary differential equations model, and statistical analysis of the fittings using a specialized R package. This protocol permits the estimation of import and export rates, nuclear or cytosolic fixed fractions, and total number of molecules.

Searching for Frataxin Function: Exploring the Analogy with Nqo15, the Frataxin-like Protein of Respiratory Complex I from .

Nqo15 is a subunit of respiratory complex I of the bacterium , with strong structural similarity to human frataxin (FXN), a protein involved in the mitochondrial disease Friedreich's ataxia (FRDA). Recently, we showed that the expression of recombinant Nqo15 can ameliorate the respiratory phenotype of FRDA patients' cells, and this prompted us to further characterize both the Nqo15 solution's behavior and its potential functional overlap with FXN, using a combination of in silico and in vitro techniques. We studied the analogy of Nqo15 and FXN by performing extensive database searches based on sequence and structure.

Core outcomes in nerve surgery: development of a core outcome set for brachial plexus and upper extremity nerve injuries.

Objective: When considering traumatic brachial plexus and upper extremity nerve injuries, iatrogenic nerve injuries, and nontraumatic nerve injuries, brachial plexus and upper extremity nerve injuries are commonly encountered in clinical practice. Despite this, data synthesis and comparison of available studies are difficult. This is at least in part due to the lack of standardization in reporting and a lack of a core outcome set (COS).

Economic impact of informal care of cancer patients at the end of life.

Background: Economic analysis of the incorporation of palliative care (PC) programs allows for assessment of the potential financial impact of shifting activity from secondary care to primary, community and social care sectors. Only 14% of patients in need of PC in Argentina have access to PC services, similar to the world average, as estimated by World Health Organization (WHO). The economic impact of family care, which falls mainly on women, needs to be assessed at the public policy and research levels.

A novel presentation of diaphragmatic flutter in a patient with obstructive sleep apnea and recurrent cerebellar hemangioblastoma.

Unlabelled: We report a unique case of diaphragmatic flutter in a patient with obstructive sleep apnea who had no respiratory symptoms related to flutter and a history of recurrent cerebellar hemangioblastoma. The flutter was detected during a routine follow-up monitoring through the built-in software of the positive airway pressure device; the flow and pressure curves showed abnormal and curious oscillations. The ultrasound confirmed the diagnosis and ruled out other causes of abnormal diaphragmatic movements.

ADAMTSL2 mutations determine the phenotypic severity in geleophysic dysplasia.

Geleophysic dysplasia-1 (GD1) is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by ADAMTS-like 2 (ADAMTSL2) variants. It is characterized by distinctive facial features, limited joint mobility, short stature, brachydactyly, and life-threatening cardiorespiratory complications. The clinical spectrum spans from perinatal lethality to milder adult phenotypes.

Objectives: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is Argentina's first cause of cancer death. Most patients have an advanced stage at diagnosis, with poor expected survival. This study aimed to characterize the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and economic impact of patients treated in the private healthcare sector and compare it with that of the public sector.

Histone Methyltransferase G9a Plays an Essential Role on Nicotine Preference in Zebrafish.

Psychostimulants regulate behavioral responses in zebrafish via epigenetic mechanisms. We have previously shown that DNA methylation and histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibition abolish nicotine-induced conditioned place preference (CPP) but little is known about the role of histone methylation in addictive-like behaviors. To assess the influence of histone methylation on nicotine-CPP, zebrafish were treated with a histone (H3) lysine-9 (K9) dimethyltransferase G9a/GLP inhibitor, BIX-01294 (BIX), which was administered before conditioning sessions.

Surgical Antibiotic Prophylaxis: A Proposal for a Global Evidence-Based Bundle.

In the multimodal strategy context, to implement healthcare-associated infection prevention, bundles are one of the most commonly used methods to adapt guidelines in the local context and transfer best practices into routine clinical care. One of the most important measures to prevent surgical site infections is surgical antibiotic prophylaxis (SAP). This narrative review aims to present a bundle for the correct SAP administration and evaluate the evidence supporting it.

Association between lumbar intervertebral vacuum phenomenon severity and posterior paraspinal muscle atrophy in patients undergoing spine surgery.

Purpose: Intervertebral vacuum phenomenon (IVP) and paraspinal muscular atrophy are age-related changes in the lumbar spine. The relationship between both parameters has not been investigated. We aimed to analyze the correlation between IVP and paraspinal muscular atrophy in addition to describing the lumbar vacuum severity (LVS) scale, a new parameter to estimate lumbar degeneration.

The brain is a nonequilibrium system whose dynamics change in different brain states, such as wakefulness and deep sleep. Thermodynamics provides the tools for revealing these nonequilibrium dynamics. We used violations of the fluctuation-dissipation theorem to describe the hierarchy of nonequilibrium dynamics associated with different brain states.
