Objectives: In-hospital cardiac arrests are common and associated with high mortality. Smartphone applications offer quick access to algorithms and timers but often lack real-time guidance. This study assesses the impact of the Code Blue Leader application on the performance of providers leading cardiac arrest simulations.

Sequencing the human genome empowers translational medicine, facilitating transcriptome-wide molecular diagnosis, pathway biology, and drug repositioning. Initially, microarrays are used to study the bulk transcriptome; but now short-read RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) predominates. Positioned as a superior technology, that makes the discovery of novel transcripts routine, most RNA-seq analyses are in fact modeled on the known transcriptome.

Objective: Laryngeal verrucous carcinoma (LVC) comprises 1% to 4% of all laryngeal tumors. Although controversial, surgery has been the mainstay of treatment, due to concern about anaplastic transformation with radiotherapy. We aimed to study LVC patients to identify treatment patterns for primary and recurrent diseases.

Key Clinical Message: No formal treatment guidelines for MDS/MPN-RS-T exist. With salient features such as anemia and thrombocytosis, management is individualized and aims to address anemia, thrombosis, and in some cases acquired von Willebrand's disease.

Abstract: Myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative overlap syndrome with ring sideroblasts and thrombocytosis (MDS/MPN-RS-T) is a rare myeloid neoplasm showing myelodysplastic and myeloproliferative features.

Background: Swift recognition of cardiac arrest is required for survival, however failure to recognize (and delayed response) is common. Studying online cardiac arrest videos may aid recognition, however the ethical implications of this are unknown. We examined their use from the perspective of persons with lived experience of cardiac arrest, seeking to understand the experience of having one's cardiac arrest recorded and available online.

Using a tantalum ureate pre-catalyst, photocatalytic hydroaminoalkylation of unactivated alkenes with unprotected amines at room temperature is demonstrated. The combination of Ta(CHSiMe)Cl and a ureate ligand with a saturated cyclic backbone resulted in this unique reactivity. Preliminary investigations of the reaction mechanism suggest that both the thermal and photocatalytic hydroaminoalkylation reactions begin with N-H bond activation and subsequent metallaaziridine formation.

  • Journals should mandate that open data is archived in a user-friendly format, making it easy for readers to access and understand.
  • Consistent application of these requirements would lead to better recognition for contributors, allowing them to receive citations for their open data.
  • This practice would ultimately promote scientific advancement by improving data transparency and accessibility.

Introduction: Remote smartphone assessments of cognition, speech/language, and motor functioning in frontotemporal dementia (FTD) could enable decentralized clinical trials and improve access to research. We studied the feasibility and acceptability of remote smartphone data collection in FTD research using the ALLFTD Mobile App (ALLFTD-mApp).

Methods: A diagnostically mixed sample of 214 participants with FTD or from familial FTD kindreds (asymptomatic: CDR®+NACC-FTLD = 0 [ = 101]; prodromal: 0.

Objective: We investigated sex differences in 1-year survival in a cohort of patients who survived out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) to hospital discharge. We hypothesized that female sex is associated with higher 1-year posthospital discharge survival.

Methods: A retrospective analysis of linked data (2011-2017) from clinical databases in British Columbia (BC) was conducted.

Point of care ultrasound (POCUS) in Canadian undergraduate medical education (UGME) is limited. To address this paucity, the inaugural Seguin Canadian POCUS Education Conference hosted 14 of the 17 Canadian medical schools to develop a list of recommendations for POCUS education in Canadian UGME. Attending schools were divided into delegations consisting of a pre-clerkship student, a clerkship student and a staff physician.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to estimate the rate and review determinants of successful therapy for unilateral amblyopia in children.

Methods: This prospective cohort consisted of Saudi children aged 6-12 who received amblyopia therapy between 2020 and 2022. Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) in the amblyopic eye improved to reach the BCVA of the fellow eye at follow-up visits, or BCVA in the amblyopic eye improved and remained stable over three follow-up visits.

Classifying habitat patches as sources or sinks and determining metapopulation persistence requires coupling connectivity between habitat patches with local demographic rates. While methods to calculate sources, sinks, and metapopulation persistence exist for discrete-time models, there is no method that is consistent across modeling frameworks. In this paper, we show how next-generation matrices, originally popularized in epidemiology to calculate new infections after one generation, can be used in an ecological context to calculate sources and sinks as well as metapopulation persistence in marine metapopulations.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers created a special type of mouse (β3 knock-in) to study this interaction and discovered that these mice had normal GABAR communication but showed reduced glutamate potentiation, leading to increased seizure susceptibility and learning difficulties.
  • * Restoring the levels of specific GABARs in the hippocampus of these mice improved their response to glutamate and corrected behavioral issues, indicating that the crosstalk is crucial for maintaining a healthy balance between excitation and inhibition in the brain.

Background: Since the onset of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, the caregiving routine for care partners of people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD) changed substantially.

Objectives: To understand the nature and severity of burden in care partners of PwPD during the ongoing pandemic. We also sought to describe care partners' perceived change in burden and factors associated with increased burden.

Background For patients with atrial fibrillation seen in the emergency department (ED) following a transient ischemic attack (TIA) or minor stroke, the impact of initiating oral anticoagulation immediately rather than deferring the decision to outpatient follow-up is unknown. Methods and Results We conducted a planned secondary data analysis of a prospective cohort of 11 507 adults in 13 Canadian EDs between 2006 and 2018. Patients were eligible if they were aged 18 years or older, with a final diagnosis of TIA or minor stroke with previously documented or newly diagnosed atrial fibrillation.

Sparse decision trees are one of the most common forms of interpretable models. While recent advances have produced algorithms that fully optimize sparse decision trees for , that work does not address , because the algorithms cannot handle weighted data samples. Specifically, they rely on the discreteness of the loss function, which means that real-valued weights cannot be directly used.

Western redcedar (WRC; ) is a conifer of the Pacific Northwest of North America prized for its durable and rot-resistant wood. WRC has naturally low outcrossing rates and readily self-fertilizes in nature. Challenges faced in WRC breeding and propagation involve selecting trees for accelerated growth while also ensuring enhanced heartwood rot resistance and resistance to ungulate browsing, as well as mitigating potential effects of inbreeding depression.
