The aim of the present study was to propose an explanatory model on the influence of religiosity on the subjective well-being of lesbians, gays, and bisexuals (LGB), testing internalized homonegativity as a mediator variable and LGB and religious identities' integration as a moderator variable. The study included 409 cisgender Brazilian religious LGBs. The findings show that for individuals without integrated LGB and religious identities, there is both a positive direct effect of religiosity on the subjective well-being and an indirect negative effect mediated by internalized homonegativity, so that higher levels of religiosity lead to higher levels of internalized homonegativity, which, in turn, leads to a reduction of levels of subjective well-being.

We have synthesized and characterized a novel series of ruthenium complexes with formulas [RuCl(N-S)(dppm)]PF (Ru1), [Ru(N-S)(dppm)]PF (Ru2), [Ru(N-S)(dppe)]PF (Ru3), [Ru(N-S)(dppen)]PF (Ru4), [Ru(N-S)(bpy)]PF (Ru5). In these formulas, N-S or S represents H2mq (2-mercapto-4(3)-quinazoline); dppe (1,2'-bis(diphenylphosphine)ethane), dppm (1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphine)methane), or dppen (1,2'-bis(diphenylphosphine)ethene); and bpy refers to 2,2'-bipyridine. We have also compared the cytotoxicity of cisplatin with these ruthenium complexes to murine melanoma cells (B16-F10), human melanoma cells (A-375), and the non-tumoral human keratinocyte cell line (HaCat).

Seaweeds are natural sources of sulfated polysaccharides (SPs), biopolymers with remarkable pharmacological properties, including biological actions capable of attenuating components of the inflammatory process such as edema, cytokines, cell migration and pain. Our results confirm that SPs obtained from Gracilaria domingensis (SP-GD) are agarans, primarily composed of residues of β-d-galactopyranose 6-sulfate and 3,6-anhydro-α-l-galactopyranose. Specifically, SP-GD at a dose of 10 mg/kg was effective in significantly reducing paw edema induced by carrageenan or histamine, serotonin, bradykinin, 48/80 and prostaglandin E2.

The Pandemic, Mining Violence, and the Case of the Sanöma/Yanomami People.

J Med Humanit

November 2024

Department of Anthropology, University of Brasília, Brasília, Distrito Federal, Brazil.

In Brazil, the health emergency unleashed by the Covid-19 pandemic must be understood in the context of the government administration of the former president, Jair Bolsonaro. The new coronavirus was turned into a war machine, something already seen in other moments of the history of indigenous peoples, when epidemics were strategically used to promote indigenous genocide and usurp their territories. The Sanöma, a subgroup of the Yanomami language family, assert that Covid-19 did not leave individualized traces of 'sequelae' but made itself felt in the deaths that could not undergo the traditional funeral rites due to the sanitary measures, generating a cosmological and existential tension for the collective as a whole.
