Childhood Obesity as a Global Problem: a Cross-sectional Survey on Global Awareness and National Program Implementation.

Objective: The rising global epidemic of childhood obesity is a major public health challenge. Despite the urgency, there is a lack of data on the awareness and implementation of preventative measures. The aim of this study was to identify areas for improvement in the prevention and management of childhood obesity worldwide.

Recurrent vaginal epithelioid leiomyosarcoma; a case report from Botswana and review of the literature.

Primary vaginal leiomyosarcoma is a rare gynecological malignancy. The clinical presentation is a benign looking well circumscribed mobile mass which might however occasionally present with distant metastases. Post treatment recurrence is common, and the clinical course is often unpredictable.

Bell's palsy in pregnancy as a prodromal sign of preeclampsia: A report of three cases, pregnancy outcome, and literature review.

Bell's palsy is a less common neurological disorder in the general population. Its occurrence during pregnancy can be used as a predictor of adverse obstetric outcomes including preeclampsia and its complications. We report cases of three pregnant women from Botswana who presented with Bell's palsy in the third trimester coexisting with preeclampsia and multiple complications.

Botswana's HIV response: Policies, context, and future directions.

This brief report describes key periods in the history of the national public health response to the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) epidemic in Botswana. It reveals the context leading to the development of HIV policies presently in place and current challenges that remain. The report concludes with opportunities for future directions, initiatives, and policy changes to reduce the high rates of HIV.

Neural-Tube Defects and Antiretroviral Treatment Regimens in Botswana.

Background: A preliminary safety signal for neural-tube defects was previously reported in association with dolutegravir exposure from the time of conception, which has affected choices of antiretroviral treatment (ART) for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected women of reproductive potential. The signal can now be evaluated with data from follow-up of additional pregnancies.

Methods: We conducted birth-outcomes surveillance at hospitals throughout Botswana, expanding from 8 to 18 sites in 2018.

Adherence to screening appointments in a cervical cancer clinic serving HIV-positive women in Botswana.

Background: The link between human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and cervical cancer is of particular concern in Botswana, where one in four women at risk for cervical cancer is HIV-positive. In settings where co-occurrence of these diseases is high, adherence to screening appointments is essential to ensure detection and early treatment.

Methods: This study took place in a cervical cancer-screening program in an HIV clinic in Botswana.

Knowledge Accrual Following Participation in Pediatric Fundamental Critical Care Support Course in Gaborone, Botswana.

Objectives: To describe provider characteristics, knowledge acquisition, perceived relevance, and instruction quality of the Society of Critical Care Medicine's Pediatric Fundamentals of Critical Care Support course pilot implementation in Botswana.

Setting: Academic, upper middle-income country.

Learning support interventions for Year 1 medical students: a review of the literature.

Context: The journey through medical school can be challenging, especially for undergraduate medical students who must deal with a demanding curriculum, coupled with the demands of transitioning into adulthood. Despite experiencing learning challenges, most students succeed with appropriate learning support. Many medical schools offer learning support programmes, particularly in the latter years, but it has been suggested that such support could be more beneficial, especially during the initial years.
