Bell's palsy is a less common neurological disorder in the general population. Its occurrence during pregnancy can be used as a predictor of adverse obstetric outcomes including preeclampsia and its complications. We report cases of three pregnant women from Botswana who presented with Bell's palsy in the third trimester coexisting with preeclampsia and multiple complications.

This brief report describes key periods in the history of the national public health response to the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) epidemic in Botswana. It reveals the context leading to the development of HIV policies presently in place and current challenges that remain. The report concludes with opportunities for future directions, initiatives, and policy changes to reduce the high rates of HIV.

Background: A preliminary safety signal for neural-tube defects was previously reported in association with dolutegravir exposure from the time of conception, which has affected choices of antiretroviral treatment (ART) for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected women of reproductive potential. The signal can now be evaluated with data from follow-up of additional pregnancies.

Methods: We conducted birth-outcomes surveillance at hospitals throughout Botswana, expanding from 8 to 18 sites in 2018.

In settings where co-occurrence of these diseases is high, adherence to screening appointments is essential to ensure detection and early treatment.

Context: The journey through medical school can be challenging, especially for undergraduate medical students who must deal with a demanding curriculum, coupled with the demands of transitioning into adulthood. Despite experiencing learning challenges, most students succeed with appropriate learning support. Many medical schools offer learning support programmes, particularly in the latter years, but it has been suggested that such support could be more beneficial, especially during the initial years.
