Oxidative stress has been implicated in numerous pregnancy-related disorders. Biologically active plant secondary metabolites, which are present in everyday diet, could prove effective therapeutic agents in preventing these disorders. This study evaluated effects of taxifolin (dihydroquercetin) on ROS production, markers of oxidative damage to lipids and proteins, activity of antioxidant enzymes and production of pro-inflammatory cytokines in HO-induced oxidative stress in trophoblast HTR-8/SVneo cells.

Parasitic diseases are considered to be a cause of oxidative stress which leads to oxidative damage of various molecules including DNA. This can result in mutations, replication errors, and genome instability. Therefore, aim of this study was to measure DNA damage induced by Dirofilaria immitis in the single cells such as dogs' leukocytes using the comet assay.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study analyzes African swine fever virus (ASFV) variants in Serbia from 2019 to 2022, marking the first detailed report of its molecular characteristics since the disease was first detected in July 2019 in wild boar and domestic swine.
  • - Researchers examined 95 ASFV-positive samples from 12 infected districts, identifying multiple strains of genotype II, mainly indicated by variations in the intergenic region (IGR) between specific genes.
  • - Findings reveal three distinct clades within the CVR I group based on the B602L gene, with the majority of samples (98.4%) falling into IGR II, emphasizing the need for more research to fully understand ASFV's spread and evolution in

The work was aimed to research into the vital signs, haematological and biochemical parameters, acute-phase protein concentrations (CRP, albumin), progesterone (PG) and anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) concentrations in bitches with pyometra and their comparison with those in healthy bitches. In addition, the goal of this work was to assess if some of the tested parameters may be used as a biomarker in the diagnostics of pyometra and the monitoring of the postoperative recovery. Forty 3-6-year-old bitches of various breeds were included in the research and allotted to two groups: the control (C, n = 20) and the diseased - bitches diagnosed with pyometra (P, n = 20).

University of Belgrade - Faculty of Chemistry, University of Belgrade, Studentski trg 12-16, 11000 Belgrade, Serbia.

Analysis of composition of CHCl surface extract of leaves of Vis. revealed 16 sesquiterpene lactones with guaianolide skeleton, so called amphoricarpolides, typical for this genus. Four of them, -, were new derivatives and their structures were elucidated by detailed analyses of IR, NMR and MS data.

Collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) is a frequently used animal model of rheumatoid arthritis, human autoimmune disease that exhibits clear sex bias in incidence and clinical course. Female Dark Agouti rats immunized for CIA showed also greater incidence and higher arthritic score than their male counterparts. The study investigated sex differences in mechanisms controlling the primary immune responses in draining lymph nodes (dLNs), as a factor contributing to this dimorphism.

Dirofilaria repens causes an emerging zoonotic disease in Europe, particularly in its southern part, the Mediterranean region. Many reports on human dirofilariosis have been published recently, but little is known about the wildlife hosts and reservoirs of this parasite in nature. This paper presents the first records of adult D.
