Background And Objective: Trichuriasis caused by the human whipworm Trichuris trichiura poses a significant public health concern. Albendazole-ivermectin co-medication is currently the most effective treatment. Studies conducted in Tanzania and Côte d'Ivoire unveiled differences in efficacy for albendazole-ivermectin combination therapy in both countries.

This article introduces a novel concept where advanced technologies have been leveraged to produce a modular walking orthosis (MOWA) within a completely digital process chain. All processes of this new supply chain are described step-by-step. The prescription and treatment of lower leg orthoses for individuals with paralysis or muscle weakness, particularly cerebral palsy (CP), are complex.

Secondary electrospray ionization-high resolution mass spectrometry (SESI-HRMS) is an established technique in the field of breath analysis characterized by its short analysis time, as well as high levels of sensitivity and selectivity. Traditionally, SESI-HRMS has been used for real-time breath analysis, which requires subjects to be at the location of the analytical platform. Therefore, it limits the possibilities for an introduction of this methodology in day-to-day clinical practice.

Introduction: Swiss national recommendations advise, since end of 2018, supporting women with HIV who wish to breastfeed. Our objective is to describe the motivational factors and the outcome of these women and of their infants.
Methods: mothers included in MoCHiV with a delivery between January 2019 and February 2021 who fulfilled the criteria of the "optimal scenario" (adherence to cART, regular clinical care, and suppressed HIV plasma viral load (pVL) of <50 RNA copies/ml) and who decided to breastfeed after a shared decision-making process, were approached to participate in this nested study and asked to fill-in a questionnaire exploring the main motivating factors for breastfeeding.

Objective: One of the main medical treatment options for monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (MNE) is the vasopressin analog desmopressin. But not all children respond to desmopressin treatment, and no reliable treatment predictor has yet been established. We hypothesize that plasma copeptin, a surrogate marker for vasopressin, can be used to predict treatment response to desmopressin in children with MNE.

Introduction: Antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASPs) are essential for minimizing the emergence of antimicrobial resistance, while improving patient outcomes. The current status of ASP in the field of organ transplantation in Switzerland has not been well characterized.
Methods: We describe in this article the current status of ASP and discuss challenges and opportunities of implementing ASP dedicated to solid-organ transplant (SOT) recipients in Switzerland.

Current dose reductions recommended for amoxicillin in patients with impaired kidney function could lead to suboptimal treatments. In a prospective, observational study in hospitalized adults with varying kidney function treated with an IV or oral dose of amoxicillin, amoxicillin concentrations were measured in 1−2 samples on the second day of treatment. Pharmacometric modelling and simulations were performed to evaluate the probability of target attainment (PTA) for 40% of the time above MIC following standard (1000 mg q6h), reduced or increased IV dosing strategies.

Norovirus is a leading cause of epidemic acute gastroenteritis. More than 30 genotypes circulate in humans, some are common, and others are only sporadically detected. Here, we investigated whether serology can be used to determine which genotypes infect children.

Background: Intensive care practice calls for ventilator adjustments due to fast-changing clinical conditions in ventilated critically ill children. These adaptations include positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP), fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO), and respiratory rate (RR). It is unclear which alterations in ventilator settings trigger a significant systemic inflammatory response.

Background: Cardiovascular impairment contributes to increased mortality in preterm infants with chronic lung disease. Macitentan, an endothelin-1 receptor antagonist, has the potential to attenuate pulmonary and cardiovascular remodelling.
Methods: In a prospective randomized placebo-controlled intervention trial, Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to 0.

Background: Though the disease burden of varicella in Europe has been reported previously, the economic burden is still unknown. This study estimated the economic burden of varicella in Europe in the absence of Universal Varicella Vaccination (UVV) in 2018 Euros from both payer (direct costs) and societal (direct and indirect costs) perspectives.
Methods: We estimated the country specific and overall annual costs of varicella in absence of UVV in 31 European countries (27 EU countries, plus Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom).

Moxidectin is a frontrunner drug candidate in the treatment of strongyloidiasis. A dose of 8 mg is recommended to treat this indication, which shows a reasonably good efficacy and tolerability profile. Yet, owing to the unique life cycle of Strongyloides stercoralis (S.

Breath analysis by secondary electrospray ionization-high resolution mass spectrometry (SESI-HRMS) offers the possibility to measure comprehensive metabolic profiles. The technology is currently being deployed in several clinical settings in Switzerland and China. However, patients are required to exhale directly into the device located in a dedicated room.

Aims Of The Study: Apparent life threatening events (ALTEs) are highly stressful situations for the caregiver and commonly result in presentation of the child to an emergency department. As the events are usually brief and resolve in a short period of time, the entity is now called a brief resolved unexplained event (BRUE). Updated recommendations have been published in recent years on the management of BRUE, including a risk stratification to identify those at lower risk for subsequent events or severe underlying disorders.

Secondary electrospray ionization coupled with high resolution mass spectrometry (SESI-HRMS) is a direct mass spectrometry technique, which can identify trace volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in real time without sample pretreatment and chromatographic separation. SESI-HRMS has been successfully applied in multiple applications, including breath analysis, animals and plants VOCs emissions, analysis of headspace of cell cultures and indoor and outdoor air. The range of areas where the technique can potentially have a substantial impact is very broad.

Background: Both pathogenic bacteria and viruses are frequently detected in the nasopharynx (NP) of children in the absence of acute respiratory infection (ARI) symptoms. The aim of this study was to estimate the aetiological fractions for ARI hospitalisation in children for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and influenza virus and to determine whether detection of specific respiratory pathogens on NP samples was associated with ARI hospitalisation.
Methods: 349 children up to 5 years of age hospitalised for ARI (following a symptom-based case definition) and 306 hospital controls were prospectively enrolled in 16 centres across seven European Union countries between 2016 and 2019.

Background: Moxidectin has recently attracted attention as a novel candidate for the treatment of helminth infections, including Strongyloides stercoralis. This study aims to characterize the population pharmacokinetics (PPK) of moxidectin in S. stercoralis-infected adults using a pharmacometric approach, and to perform model-based simulations to explore different drug dosing strategies.

An 8-year-old girl developed severe acute lung injury after irrigation of a pelvic aneurysmal bone cyst with H2O2 and filling with bone cement. Sudden profound oxygen desaturation occurred on the operating table when the patient was turned from the prone to the supine position. After a brief improvement in her oxygenation, the girl developed rapidly progressing severe respiratory failure necessitating reintubation and hour-long manual ventilation, while copious amounts of hemorrhagic frothy fluids were aspirated through the endotracheal tube.

Background: Preterm and low birth weight infants are born with low stores in zinc, which is a vital trace element for growth, cell differentiation and immune function. Preterm infants are at risk of zinc deficiency during the postnatal period of rapid growth. Systematic reviews in the older paediatric population have previously shown that zinc supplementation potentially improves growth and positively influences the course of infectious diseases.
