This article presents two cross-sectional studies that group the most relevant (and potential) factors contemplated in the bystander literature on Intimate Partner Violence Against Women, (IPVAW). We analyzed their relationship with the intention to respond to hypothetical scenarios with specific helping behaviors based on the witnesses' gender, political ideology and on the bystander effect (study 1). We also studied them as predictors of helping behaviors (study 2).

Four ternary metal-complexes with Cu(II) or Zn(II), 2,6-pyridine-dicarboxylate (pdc) or glycyl-glycinate (GG) and the synthetic nucleoside 9-(2-hydroxyethyl)adenine (9heade) have been synthesized and studied by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and other physical methods. Relevant supramolecular assemblies found in the solid state structures have been further studied using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. In addition, the energetic features of the non-covalent interactions as well as the cooperativity effects have been calculated and characterized using the non-covalent interaction plot computational tool.

Accounts of Spanish nursing and nurses during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) that appear in the memoirs and correspondence of International Brigade volunteers, and are subsequently repeated in the secondary literature on the war, give little indication of existence of trained nurses in country. We set out to examine this apparent erasure of the long tradition of skilled nursing in Spain and the invisibility of thousands of Spanish nurses engaged in the war effort. We ask two questions: How can we understand the narrative thrust of the international volunteer accounts and subsequent historiography? And what was the state of nursing in Spain on the Republican side during the war as presented by Spanish participants and historians? We put the case that the narrative erasure of Spanish professional nursing prior to the Civil War was the result of the politicization of nursing under the Second Republic, its repression and reengineering under the Franco dictatorship, and the subsequent national policy of "oblivion" or forgetting that dominated the country during the transition to democracy.

The study of the metal binding pattern of N-methyladenines (1-, 3-, 7- or 9-Meade) towards Cu-iminodiacetate-like chelates is addressed on the basis of XRD crystal structures of sixteen novel ternary compounds. Except for three compounds, all others feature an square-based Cu(II) coordination, type 4 + 1, and the efficient cooperation of a CuN7 bond with an intra-molecular N6-H⋯O(coord. carboxylate) interligand interaction as the major metal-binding pattern.

In this work, a simple, economic, and miniaturized flow-based analyzer based on solenoid micropumps is presented. It was applied to determine two parameters of high environmental interest: ammonium and total inorganic carbon (TIC) in natural waters. The method is based on gas diffusion (GD) of CO₂ and NH3 through a hydrophobic gas permeable membrane from an acidic or alkaline donor stream, respectively.

Fast vs. slow switching from stimulants to atomoxetine in children and adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

J Child Adolesc Psychopharmacol

May 2013

Department of Neuropediatric, University Institute for Research in Healthcare Science, Neuropediatric Hospital, Son Llatzer. University of Balearic Island, Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

Objective: To compare fast versus slow switching from stimulants to atomoxetine (ATX) in children and adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Methods: This was a randomized, controlled, open-label study in 6-16-year-old ADHD patients, previously treated with stimulants and cross-titrated (fast switch, over 2 weeks, or slow switch, over 10 weeks) to ATX because of unsatisfactory response and/or adverse events. Study duration was 14 weeks with an ATX standard target dose of 1.

Impact of the politics of austerity in the quality of healthcare: ethical advice.

This article aims to provide a series of reflections before implementing a restructuring of health system management and cutbacks in health due to the possible consequences this may have on citizens' health. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that public healthcare shall be extended to the whole population in conditions of effective equality and overcoming geographical and social imbalances, based on a comprehensive approach to the healthcare system. All of this--while we are aware of the current situation of economic crisis--should be taken into account before carrying out adjustments that will harm the health of citizens and options or alternatives that will not affect equity and healthcare should be weighed up.
