  • Patients undergoing colonoscopy often face psychological distress, which can affect future willingness to undergo the procedure; this study examined the effectiveness of visual/audiovisual distractions to reduce anxiety and pain during colonoscopies.
  • A systematic review and meta-analysis of 13 randomized controlled trials involving 1439 patients found that distraction methods like nature videos and movies significantly reduced pain and anxiety levels, and increased patient satisfaction.
  • Despite the positive findings, there was no significant difference in the likelihood of patients wanting to undergo the procedure again or in the total time taken for the procedure when comparing distraction interventions to usual care.*

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explores a new surgical technique called the infratentorial presigmoid retrolabyrinthine approach to safely access anterolateral pontine lesions, avoiding common issues linked to traditional methods.
  • - Researchers conducted dissections on cadaveric specimens, finding that this new approach provided good visibility and access to the pontine area, with metrics indicating promising surgical accessibility.
  • - The findings suggest this minimally invasive technique could improve treatment options for challenging pontine lesions, but further clinical studies are needed to assess its effectiveness in live patients.

Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the association between polymorphisms in the promoter region of the tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) gene at locations -308G/A, -857C/T, and -863C/A with the tendency of being non-responder to etanercept.

Patients And Methods: Between October 2020 and August 2021, a total of 80 patients (10 males, 70 females; mean age: 50 years; range, 30 to 72 years) with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) receiving etanercept for at least six months were included. The patients were divided into two groups responders and non-responders, based on their response after six months of continuous treatment.
