In a study with mononeuropathic rats, repeated injections of 10 mg/kg venlafaxine led to a significant decrease in spinal wind-up responses, while 2.5 mg/kg did not show this effect.
The findings suggest that venlafaxine, which inhibits serotonin reuptake, effectively reduces pain-related responses in these rats.
Additionally, using the 5-HT1A receptor antagonist WAY 100,635 alongside venlafaxine enhanced its pain-reducing effects, indicating a potential pathway for improving treatment outcomes.
