On-Surface Isomerization of Indigo within 1D Coordination Polymers.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

Technical University of Munich, TUM School of Natural Sciences, Physics Department E20, James Franck Strasse 1, 85748, Garching, Germany.

Natural products are attractive components to tailor environmentally friendly advanced new materials. We present surface-confined metallosupramolecular engineering of coordination polymers using natural dyes as molecular building blocks: indigo and the related Tyrian purple. Both building blocks yield identical, well-defined coordination polymers composed of (1 dehydroindigo : 1 Fe) repeat units on two different silver single crystal surfaces.

Benzoxanthenes and their analogues are a very important class of compounds mainly due to their wide range of biological and technological applications. The development of a new methodology for their synthesis, involving an Ullmann-type coupling followed by an intramolecular C-H arylation, catalyzed by copper in a domino fashion, is reported. A variety of -substituted phenols are amenable to this methodology, affording the desired products in moderate to good yields.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most common malignancy worldwide in men. This is a proof-of-concept study describing the development of Ga-magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (mNP) targeting prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA) and gastrin releasing peptide (GRPR) receptors as potential tools for diagnosis of PCa with PET/MRI. Two pharmacophores targeting PSMA, 1, and GRPR, 2, were coupled to mNPs carrying -SH (mNP-S1/2) or -NH (mNP-N1/2) groups.

Novel nickel(ii) complexes bearing ( butyl)bis(diphenylphosphanyl)amine and different halogenido ligands, [Ni(P,P)X] = [Ni{ BuN(PPh)-κP}X], (X = Cl, Br, I) are prepared, characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and X-ray crystallography, and tested as catalysts in the Kumada cross-coupling reaction of model substituted iodobenzenes and -tolylmagnesium bromide. The data obtained together with DFT calculations indicate that these new catalysts operate in the Ni(i)-Ni(iii) mode. The highest catalytic activity and selectivity are exhibited by [Ni(P,P)Cl], which is most easily reduced by the used Grignard reagent to the Ni(i) state.

Honey is a high-value, globally consumed, food product featuring a high market price strictly related to its origin. Moreover, honey origin has to be clearly stated on the label, and quality schemes are prescribed based on its geographical and botanical origin. Therefore, to enhance food quality, it is of utmost importance to develop analytical methods able to accurately and precisely discriminate honey origin.

In this study, a simple, fast, one-pot approach for the isolation of nanowires (NWs) in coordination chemistry is reported. Nanowires (NWs) of spin-crossover (SCO) materials are extremely rare. Here, an innovative and easy synthetic process was developed to prepare NWs of a switchable polymorph of the known complex -[Fe(NCS)(abpt)] using a wet-chemistry approach for the first time; abpt is the bidentate chelating ligand 4-amino-3,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazole.

The organocatalytic epoxidation of unactivated alkenes using aqueous hydrogen peroxide provides various indispensable products and intermediates in a sustainable manner. While formyl functionalities typically undergo irreversible oxidations when activating an oxidant, an atropisomeric two-axis aldehyde capable of catalytic turnover was identified for high-yielding epoxidations of cyclic and acyclic alkenes. The relative configuration of the stereogenic axes of the catalyst and the resulting proximity of the aldehyde and backbone residues resulted in high catalytic efficiencies.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the role of 3' tRNA-derived fragments (3' tRFs), specifically tRF-Leu, as potential prognostic biomarkers for B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL).
  • Using next-generation sequencing and real-time quantitative PCR, researchers found that high levels of tRF-Leu are linked to poorer overall survival in B-CLL patients, regardless of other known prognostic factors.
  • The findings suggest that tRF-Leu could serve as an independent prognostic tool for B-CLL, aiding in the assessment of patient outcomes.

The cobalt-seleno-based coordination complex, [Co{(SePPr)N}], is reported with respect to its catalytic activity in oxygen evolution and hydrogen evolution reactions (OER and HER, respectively) in alkaline solutions. An overpotential of 320 and 630 mV was required to achieve 10 mA cm for OER and HER, respectively. The overpotential for OER of this -containing complex is one of the lowest that has been observed until now for molecular cobalt(II) systems, under the reported conditions.

The significant antifungal activity of a series of novel 1,2,4-triazole derivatives against different strains of Candida albicans, Candida krusei and Aspergillus fumigatus, compared to the commercial fungicides ketoconazole and itraconazole, is reported. Systemic mycosis and invasive fungal infections, whether from immunodeficiency or hospital-acquired infection, have been on an upward trend for several years. The 1,2,4-triazole ring substituted with other aromatic and heteroaromatic systems plays an important role in the field of antifungal drug discovery and development.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO), the emblematic food of the Mediterranean diet, is recognized for its nutritional value and beneficial health effects. The main authenticity issues associated with EVOO's quality involve the organoleptic properties (EVOO or defective), mislabeling of production type (organic or conventional), variety and geographical origin, and adulteration. Currently, there is an emerging need to characterize EVOOs and evaluate their genuineness.

Department of Cardiology, Aarhus University Hospital, Skejby, Palle Juul-Jensens Blvd. 99, 8200 Aarhus N, Denmark.

Ischemia reperfusion injury (IR injury) associated with ischemic heart disease contributes significantly to morbidity and mortality. O-linked β-N-acetylglucosamine (O-GlcNAc) is a dynamic posttranslational modification that plays an important role in numerous biological processes, both in normal cell functions and disease. O-GlcNAc increases in response to stress.

Article Synopsis
  • Understanding treefall disturbances in Amazonian forests helps us learn about species coexistence and predict future ecosystem changes.
  • A study analyzed forests with different functional compositions, comparing their responses to treefalls by examining stem diversity and composition in both disturbed and undisturbed areas.
  • Results showed a slight increase in stem numbers and alpha-diversity after disturbances, but these changes were minimal (2-4%) and consistent across various forest types, indicating that treefall events have a limited impact on overall forest diversity.

Protection against arsenic damage in organisms positioned deep in the tree of life points to early evolutionary sensitization. Here, marine sedimentary records reveal a Proterozoic arsenic concentration patterned to glacial-interglacial ages. The low glacial and high interglacial sedimentary arsenic concentrations, suggest deteriorating habitable marine conditions may have coincided with atmospheric oxygen decline after ~2.

There are many different three-dimensional (3D) techniques to capture and deliver autostereoscopic 3D content. A promising technique that provides two-dimensional parallax as well as high-quality, full-color 3D content is integral imaging (InI). Misalignments between the lens arrays (LAs) and the camera charged coupled device, however, introduce geometric distortions in the acquired image that propagate through the different image processing stages and deteriorate the 3D effect.

In most integral image analysis and processing tasks, accurate knowledge of the internal image structure is required. In this paper we present a robust framework for the accurate rectification of perspectively distorted integral images based on multiple line segment detection. The use of multiple line segments increases the overall fault tolerance of our framework providing strong statistical support for the rectification process.
