Acute kidney injury induced by stings from multiple wasps is a medical emergency and is a driving factor of acute renal dysfunction. Numerous studies have shown that mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mtROS) play a key role in ischemia-reperfusion injury-, cisplatin-, and sepsis-induced acute kidney injury. However, the role of mtROS and its underlying mechanisms in wasp-venom-induced acute kidney injury remain inconclusive.

Rapid, sensitive, and accurate detection of heavy metal ions is significant for human health and ecological security. Herein, a novel single-stranded DNA with poly(thymidine) tail is tactfully designed as template to synthesize dual-emission silver nanoclusters (ssDNA-AgNCs). The obtained AgNCs simultaneously emit red and green fluorescence, and the red emission can be selectively quenched by Hg, meanwhile the green emission of AgNCs increases synchronously.

Enhancing valley splitting and anomalous valley Hall effect in the V-doped Janus MoSeTe monolayer.

Phys Chem Chem Phys

January 2025

School of Physics and Electrical Engineering, Hubei Key Laboratory of Low Dimensional Optoelectronic Materials and Devices, Hubei Longzhong Laboratory, Hubei University of Arts and Science, Xiangyang, Hubei, 441053, China.

Exploring valleytronics in two-dimensional materials is of great significance for the development of advanced information devices. In this study, we investigate the valley polarization and electronic properties of V-doped 2H-phase Janus MoSeTe by using first-principles calculations. Our results reveal a remarkable valley spin splitting up to 60 meV, driven by the breaking of time-reversal symmetry due to the magnetic effect of V 3d orbitals.

Before patients begin out-of-bed exercises following internal fixation surgery for acetabular fractures, turning over in bed serves as a crucial intervention to mitigate complications associated with prolonged bed rest. However, data on the safety of this maneuver post-surgery are limited, and the biomechanical evidence remains unclear. This study aims to introduce a novel loading protocol designed to preliminarily simulate the action of turning over in bed and to compare the biomechanical properties of two fixation methods for acetabular fractures under this new protocol.

J Surg Case Rep

January 2025

Department of Vascular Surgery, Xiangyang Central Hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Hubei University of Arts and Science, Xiangyang 441021, China.

Extracranial carotid artery aneurysm (ECAA) is a relatively rare vascular lesion of the neck, and is usually found incidentally and is usually asymptomatic. Surgery is currently the first choice for symptomatic or growing ECAA, including open resection of the entire aneurysm, with or without arterial replacement and insertion of grafts. Ischemic stroke is the most serious complication after resection of ECAA.

Single-incision plus one-port laparoscopic proximal gastrectomy with double-channel anastomosis (SILT-DT) is a minimally invasive surgical approach for treating proximal gastric cancer. This technique includes comprehensive laparoscopic resection of the proximal stomach, lymph node dissection, and double-tract anastomosis. By integrating single-port laparoscopic surgery with an auxiliary operating hole, SILT-DT reduces procedural difficulty while facilitating the placement of an abdominal drainage tube.

Aging Cell

January 2025

Department of Neurology, Songjiang Research Institute, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Emotions and Affective Disorders, Songjiang Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, China.

Integrating dietary interventions have been extensively studied for their health benefits, such as Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease, and aging. However, it is necessary to fully understand the mechanisms of long-term effects and practical applications of these dietary interventions for health. A 10-week intermittent fasting (IMF) regimen was implemented on the aging animals in the current study.

Effects of Distiller's Grains Biochar and on the Remediation of Cd-Pb-Zn-Contaminated Soil and Growth of Sorghum-Sudangrass.

Microorganisms

December 2024

Helmholtz International Lab for Anti-Infectives, Shandong University-Helmholtz Institute of Biotechnology, State Key Laboratory of Microbial Technology, Shandong University, Qingdao 266237, China.

Soil contamination with heavy metals is a significant environmental issue that adversely affects plant growth and agricultural productivity. Biochar and microbial inoculants have emerged as a promising approach to solving this problem, and previous studies have focused more on the remediation effects of single types of materials on heavy metal soil pollution. This study examined the impact of both standalone and combined applications of distiller's grains biochar, thallus, and the bacterial supernatant on the availability of cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), and zinc (Zn) in soil, its physicochemical features, and its enzyme activities; this study also examined the growth, physiological and biochemical characteristics, and heavy metal accumulation of Sorghum-sudangrass.

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Eco-Environment-Related Polymer Materials, Ministry of Education, Key Laboratory of Polymer Materials of Gansu Province, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Northwest Normal University, Lanzhou, Gansu 730070, P. R. China.

Controllable transformation between the bolaamphiphilic molecule assemblies with different morphological nanostructures represents an exciting new direction for materials. However, there are still significant challenges for the quantitative detection and real-time monitoring of a controllable nanoself-assembly process due to insufficient measuring methods. Herein, we propose a new and effective fluorescence technology for realizing quantitative detection of a controllable conversion process of one-dimensional (1D)/two-dimensional (2D) nanoassemblies by introducing AIEgens as the fluorescence signal part.

Nat Ecol Evol

January 2025

ARC Centre for Plant Success in Nature & Agriculture, Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment, Western Sydney University, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

Wind is an important ecological factor for plants as it can increase evapotranspiration and cause dehydration. However, the impact of wind on plant hydraulics at a global scale remains unclear. Here we compiled plant key hydraulic traits, including water potential at 50% loss of hydraulic conductivity (P), xylem-specific hydraulic conductivity (K), leaf area to sapwood area ratio (A/A) and conduit diameter (D) with 2,786 species-at-site combinations across 1,922 woody species at 469 sites worldwide and analysed their correlations with wind speed.
