Purpose: The TAOK proteins are a group of serine/threonine-protein kinases involved in signalling pathways, cytoskeleton regulation, and neuronal development. TAOK1 variants are associated with a neurodevelopmental disorder (NDD) characterized by distinctive facial features, hypotonia and feeding difficulties. TAOK2 variants have been reported to be associated with autism and early-onset obesity.

Effect of Three Different Daily Protein Intakes in a Two-Meal Eating Pattern on Protein Turnover in Middle Age and Older Adults: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: Reduced meal frequency patterns have become popular for weight loss, maintenance, and improving cardiometabolic health. The extended fasting windows with these dietary patterns could lead to greater protein breakdown, which is a concern for middle-age and older adults who may need higher protein intakes to maintain or increase net protein balance.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to quantify muscle and whole-body protein kinetic responses to three different daily protein intakes within a two-meal eating pattern.

Introduction: Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) significantly impacts adults' wellbeing, causing both physical and psychological harm. IPV has been consistently linked to adverse sexual health outcomes, including an increased risk of sexually transmitted infections, unintended pregnancies, and sexual dysfunction. This systematic review examines the evolving relationship between IPV and sexual health outcomes in adults from 2014 to 2024, addressing gaps in understanding across diverse populations and exploring the complex interplay between violence, sexuality, and health.

Organization Theory for Implementation Science (OTIS): reflections and recommendations.

Organizations exert influence on the implementation of evidence-based practices and other innovations that are independent of the influence of organizations' individual constituents. Despite their influence, nuanced explanations of organizations' influence remain limited in implementation science. Organization theories are uniquely suited to offer insights and explain organizational influences on implementation.

Whip It Good: A Case of Vitamin B12 Deficiency and Subacute Combined Degeneration of the Spinal Cord.

A 40-year-old male patient with no significant past history presented to the emergency room with bilateral upper and lower extremity numbness and difficulty walking for three weeks. MRI of the thoracic spine revealed cord signal abnormalities in the dorsal columns consistent with selective degeneration. This was congruent with the patient's presentation and symptoms of myelopathy with dorsal column involvement along with peripheral polyneuropathy.

Purpose: To evaluate the long-term outcomes of enucleation without conjunctival closure in a large patient cohort.

Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted from January 2011 to January 2024, examining 144 eyes of 143 patients who underwent enucleation without conjunctival closure by a single oculoplastic surgeon. Data collected included patient demographics, indications for surgery, implant types, and complications.

Neighborhood Factors related to Cancer Screening in Texas: a spatioecological study.

Introduction: To examine the associations of neighborhood socioeconomic status (nSES), ethnic enclaves, residential Black segregation with screening for breast, cervical and colorectal (CRC) cancers across the state of Texas (TX).

Methods: Using an ecologic study design, spatial clustering of low breast, cervical and CRC screening rates were identified across TX census tracts using local Moran's I statistics. Binomial spatial probit regression was used to estimate the associations between nSES, Hispanic/Latino and Asian American (AA) ethnic enclave neighborhoods and residential Black segregation with geospatial clusters of low screening, adjusting for behavioral characteristics.

Design and Validation of a Multimodal Diffuse Reflectance and Spatially Offset Raman Spectroscopy System for In Vivo Applications.

We report on the development of a multimodal spectroscopy system, combining diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) and spatially offset Raman spectroscopy (SORS). A fiber optic probe was designed with spatially offset source-detector fibers to collect subsurface measurements for each modality, as well as ball lens-coupled fibers for superficial measurements. The system acquires DRS, zero-offset Raman spectroscopy (RS) and SORS with good signal-to-noise ratio.

Serotonin is a potent immunomodulatory neurohormone. Activities of the serotonergic and immune systems are often reported together in poultry studies with unidirectional analyses focused on serotonergic signaling mediating immune response. Considering serotonin's relevance across a range of immune-related poultry topics, elucidation of whether the immune system affects the serotonergic system can provide valuable insights into the bi-directionality of poultry neuroendocrine-immune interactions.

Objective: Our study aims to shed light on racial, ethnic, and geographic disparities in phase 2/3 Meniere's disease (MD) clinical trials, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the inclusivity and effectiveness of future MD research.

Methods: We conducted a systematic review of phase 2/3 MD Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs). Using the search terms "Meniere's Disease" and "Endolymphatic hydrops", we searched ClinicalTrials.

Background: Accurate diagnosis and understanding of brain disorders are crucial for the best treatment. While multimodal neuroimaging is essential, it has its limitations. Conventional computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provide detailed anatomical information but lack molecular insights, while 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography (FDG PET) offers metabolic data but often has limited spatial resolution.

Introduction/aims: While dystrophinopathies are primarily characterized by progressive muscle weakness with onset during childhood, dystrophin also plays a role in brain development. This study aimed to characterize how neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders are currently identified and managed in clinical care of those with Becker and Duchenne muscular dystrophy (BDMD).

Methods: Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD) disseminated surveys to caregivers and health care providers (HCPs) in the United States to assess the frequency and management of neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders of those with dystrophinopathy.

A Retrospective Analysis of Thrombosis and COVID-19 Mortality in Rural Midwestern Population.

Background COVID-19 disease has caused a major global impact on health and mortality. This infection may predispose patients to thrombotic disease, caused by excessive inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, platelet activation, and stasis. In this study, we compared mortality rates in patients admitted to the hospital with the diagnosis of COVID-19, who also had the additional diagnosis of thrombosis with those who did not have thrombosis as an additional diagnosis.

Genomic analysis, culturing optimization, and characterization of bacteriophage OSYSP, previously studied as effective pathogen control on fresh produce.

Advances in bacteriophage genome sequencing and regulatory approvals of some bacteriophages in various applications have renewed interest in these antibacterial viruses as a potential solution to persistent food safety challenges. Here, we analyzed in depth the genome of the previously studied bacteriophage OSYSP (phage OSYSP), revealed its application-related characteristics, and optimized its enumeration techniques for facilitating industrial implementation. We previously sequenced phage OSYSP genome completely by combining results from Illumina Miseq and Ion Torrent sequencing platforms and completing the remaining sequence gaps using PCR.

Background And Aims: Fully covered self-expandable metallic stents (FCSEMS) are often used in the management of post-sphincterotomy bleeding which is refractory to conventional endoscopic treatments. In this meta-analysis, we have evaluated the efficacy and safety of FCSEMS in the management of post-sphincterotomy bleeding.

Methods: We reviewed several databases from inception to November 6, 2024 to identify studies that evaluated the efficacy, and/or safety of FCSEMS in the management of post sphincterotomy bleeding.

Cold Storage Disrupts the Proteome and Phosphoproteome Landscape in Rat Kidney Transplants.

Background: Prolonged cold storage (CS) of kidneys results in poor long-term outcomes after transplantation (Tx). We reported previously that CS of rat kidneys for 18 h before transplant impaired proteasome function, disrupted protein homeostasis, and reduced graft function. The goal of the present study was to identify the renal proteins, including phosphoproteins, that are dysregulated by this CS injury.

Services Provided in Spanish in Substance Use Disorder Treatment Facilities: Limited Access in Communities with Fast-Growing Spanish-Speaking Populations.

Substance use disorder (SUD) is increasing among primary Spanish-speaking populations, and treatment use is disproportionately low. Patient-provider Spanish language concordance is associated with SUD treatment initiation and better outcomes. Recent geographic shifts within primary Spanish-speaking populations are important considerations in identifying gaps in SUD service delivery in Spanish.
