Aim: We examined whether metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) with or without significant fibrosis (assessed by validated non-invasive biomarkers) was associated with an increased risk of prevalent chronic kidney disease (CKD) or diabetic retinopathy in people with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM).
Methods: We performed a retrospective multicenter cross-sectional study involving 1,409 adult outpatients with T1DM, in whom hepatic steatosis index (HSI) and fibrosis (FIB)-4 index were calculated for non-invasively detecting hepatic steatosis (defined by HSI > 36), with or without coexisting significant fibrosis (FIB-4 index ≥ 1.3 or < 1.

Azetidinones with a sulfenyl group on the β-lactam nitrogen atom show interesting biological activities as antimicrobial agents and enzyme inhibitors. We report in the present study a versatile synthesis of -sulfenylated azetidinones starting from the corresponding -bromo derivatives by means of the (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-yl)oxyl (TEMPO) radical as the catalyst and disulfides. Preparation of -halo-azetidinones was studied and optimized.

Background: We assessed whether hepatic steatosis with or without significant fibrosis (determined by validated non-invasive biomarkers) is associated with an increased 10-year estimated risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) in people with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM).
Methods: We conducted a retrospective, multicenter, cross-sectional study involving 1,254 adults with established T1DM without pre-existing CVD. We used the hepatic steatosis index (HSI) and fibrosis (FIB)-4 index for non-invasively detecting hepatic steatosis (defined as HSI > 36), with or without coexisting significant fibrosis (defined as FIB-4 index ≥ 1.

Introduction: Despite increased attention on immunotherapy, primarily immune checkpoint blockade, as a therapeutic approach for mesothelioma (MMe), its efficacy and tolerability remain questioned. One potential explanation for different responses to immunotherapy is the gut and intratumor microbiota; however, these remain an underexplored facet of MMe. This article highlights the cancer intratumor microbiota as a novel potential prognostic indicator in MMe.

Mutations in SCN1A gene, encoding the voltage-gated sodium channel (VGSC) NaV1.1, are widely recognized as a leading cause of genetic febrile seizures (FS), due to the decrease in the Na+ current density, mainly affecting the inhibitory neuronal transmission. Here, we generated induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs)-derived neurons (idNs) from a patient belonging to a genetically well-characterized Italian family, carrying the c.

Lignin nanoparticles (LNPs) are applied in several industrial applications. The nanoprecipitation of LNPs is fast and inexpensive but currently still limited to the use of hazardous organic solvents, making it difficult to apply them on a large scale. Here, we report a scalable nanoprecipitation procedure for the preparation of colloidal lignin nanoparticles (cLNPs) by the use of the green solvents dimethylisosorbide and isopropylidene glycerol.

Cardiovascular diseases, in particular hypertension, as well as the cardiovascular treatment with Renin-Angiotensin System inhibitors such as Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (ARBs), are claimed once again as mechanisms of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) during the COVID-19 outbreak due to Cov-2 epidemics. In vitro studies are available to support the eventual role of ACE inhibitors and ARBs in both the promotion and antagonism of the disease. The available literature, indeed, presents contrasting results, all concentrated in experimental models.

Osseointegrated dental implants showed elevated success rates on the long-term treatment in the last ten years. However, the risk of peri-implantitis and implant failure is the main complication of implantology. The presence of a micro gap at the implant-abutment connection (IAC) allows microorganisms to penetrate and colonize the inner part of the implant leading to biofilm accumulation and consequently to peri-implantitis development.

Osseointegration can be affected by oral conditions; in particular, the micro gap at the implantabutment-connection (IAC) represents a site for dental plaque aggregation favoring bacterial leakage that can increase inflammatory cells at the level of the IAC, causing peri-implantitis. This micro gap, once early colonized, may constitute a bacterial reservoir that could subsequently contaminate fixture's surroundings and interfere with peri-implant tissues health. The aim of this review is to describe, according to the most recent literature, the different kind of implant-abutment connection and their ability to reduce bacterial leakage and thus preventing peri-implantitis.
