Background: Energy storing and return (ESAR) prosthetic feet often provide high energy return at the cost of increased foot height, compromised appearance, and reduced flexibility. An ESAR foot, Ottobock Evanto, with a novel compact design has been introduced (novel foot).
Objective: To characterize user preference and benefits of a novel foot compared with the subject's previously worn (everyday foot) and comparator foot, Össur Pro-Flex XC.

Introduction: Biomarker discovery is increasingly moving from single omics to multiomics, as well as from multi-cell omics to single-cell omics. These transitions have increasingly adopted digital transformation technologies to accelerate the progression from data to insight. Here, we will discuss the concept of 'digitalomics' and how digital transformation directly impacts biomarker discovery.

Objectives: The oak processionary moth (OPM) (Thaumetopoea processionea) is a species of moth (order: Lepidoptera) native to parts of central Europe. However, in recent years, it has become an invasive species in various countries, particularly in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. The larvae of the OPM are covered with urticating barbed hairs (setae) causing irritating and allergic reactions at the three last larval stages (L3-L5).

It has been suggested that this results from carbon being more limiting to fern growth than nutrient availability, but this assertion has not been tested yet. In the present study, we took advantage of a fertilization experiment with nitrogen and phosphorus on cloud forest plots of the Ecuadorean Andes for 15 years.

Ammonia (NH) inhibition represents a major limitation to methane production during anaerobic digestion of organic material in biogas reactors. This process relies on co-operative metabolic interactions between diverse taxa at the community-scale. Despite this, most investigations have focused singularly on how methanogenic Archaea respond to NH stress.

Background: This work elucidates the first cellular and molecular causes of cataractogenesis. Current paradigm presupposes elevated blood glucose as a prerequisite in diabetic cataractogenesis. Novel evidence in our model of diabetic cataract challenges this notion and introduces immune cell migration to the lens and epithelial-mesenchymal transformation (EMT) of lens epithelial cells (LECs) as underlying causes.

In this work, the feasibility of the anaerobic digestion of paper sludge as a co-substrate in anaerobic digestion mechanical-biological treatment (MBT) plants is investigated. In the first phase, the biochemical properties, biomethane potential (BMP), and pollutant contents of 20 different industrial paper sludges are determined. Following the general evaluation in the BMP tests, the second phase of the project involves the semi-continuous co-digestion of six paper sludges in continuous stirred reactors (CSTR).

Background: Disrupted self-perception of the low back might contribute to chronic non-specific low back pain. The Fremantle back awareness questionnaire is a simple questionnaire to assess back specific self-perception. The questionnaire has recently been translated to German (FreBAQ-G).

Background: The Mayo Elbow Performance Score is a clinical assessment to rate the performance of the elbow from a medical and/or therapeutic perspective. It is simple and efficient to operate and therefore frequently used in research as well as in clinics. However, an adequate translation of the MEPS into the German language and a verification of the quality criteria for the use in the German health system are currently lacking.

Pediculosis, that is the infestation of humans with (head lice), poses a worldwide problem that is as old as mankind itself. Over the centuries, man has developed a variety of remedies, all of which have ultimately culminated in the use of chemical agents. Some of these remedies are known to produce successful results.

To investigate whether leaves of plane trees (Platanus orientalis) are damaged by traffic pollution, trees from a megacity (Mashhad, Iran) and a rural area were investigated. Soil and air from the urban centre showed enrichment of several toxic elements, but only lead was enriched in leaves. Leaf size and stomata density were lower at the urban site.
