Aim: The objectives of this study were to determine the prevalence of burnout risk and intention-to-leave among intensive care unit (ICU) nurses and analyse the association of these with workload and work environment.
Design: A cross-sectional survey of nurses working in ICUs was conducted in France between 15 January 2024 and 15 April 2024 alongside a longitudinal assessment of workload during the same period.
Methods: ICU nurse workload was assessed using the Nursing Activities Score (NAS).

Introduction: MODY2 (maturity-onset diabetes of the young type 2, MIM125851) is a monogenic diabetes with an autosomal dominant transmission caused by a variant of the gene. MODY2 is often confused with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, but despite a slightly elevated blood glucose level, it does not induce long-term vascular complications, nor does it require pharmacological treatment. Genetic testing for the diagnosis of MODY2 is currently reserved for genetic specialists and some physicians.

Sydenham's chorea is an autoimmune reaction against cerebral basal ganglia associated with rheumatic fever, caused by group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus infection. Diagnosis of this condition is difficult because of significant delay between infection onset and symptoms presentation, resulting in few positive biological tests or imaging exams. We report the case of a nine-year-old boy exhibiting hemicorporal abnormal movements with tics for whom [F]FDG PET/CT exam allowed to make the diagnosis, associated with anti-DNase B elevation.

Hereditary optic neuropathies, including dominant optic atrophy and Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy, are genetic disorders characterized by retinal ganglion cell degeneration leading to vision loss, mainly associated with mitochondrial dysfunction. In this study, we analysed mitochondrial distribution and ultrastructure in the retina and longitudinal optic nerve sections of pre-symptomatic hereditary optic neuropathies mouse models with Opa1 and Nd6 deficiency to identify early mitochondrial changes. Our results show significant mitochondrial fragmentation and increased mitophagy in mice, indicating early mitochondrial changes prior to neuronal loss.

Epidermis is one of the most rapidly proliferating tissues in the body with high demands for adenosine triphosphate and cellular building blocks. In this study, we show that to meet these requirements, keratinocytes constitutively express HIF-1α, even in the presence of oxygen levels sufficient for HIF-1α hydroxylation. We previously reported that mice with severe epidermal mitochondrial dysfunction actually showed a hyperproliferative epidermis but rapidly died of systemic lactic acidosis and hypoglycemia, indicating excessive glycolysis.

The synthesis and whole characterization by a multitechnique approach of an unprecedented dysprosium(iii) 2D metal organic framework (MOF), involving the redox-active tetrathiafulvalene (TTF)-based linker TTF-tetracarboxylate (TTF-TC), are herein reported. The single-crystal X-ray structure, formulated as [Dy(TTF-TC)(HO)]·21HO (1), reveals a complex 2D topology, with hexanuclear Dy clusters as secondary building units (SBUs) interconnected by five linkers, stacked almost parallel in each layer and eclipsed along the [111] direction, leading to the formation of 1D channels filled by water molecules. The mixed valence of the TTF units is confirmed by both bond distance analysis, Raman microscopy and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and further supported by band structure calculations, which also predict activated conductivity for this material.

Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is an emerging technology for the non-invasive monitoring of regional distribution of ventilation and perfusion, offering real-time and continuous data that can greatly enhance our understanding and management of various respiratory conditions and lung perfusion. Its application may be especially beneficial for critically ill mechanically ventilated patients. Despite its potential, clear evidence of clinical benefits is still lacking, in part due to a lack of standardization and transparent reporting, which is essential for ensuring reproducible research and enhancing the use of EIT for personalized mechanical ventilation.

Invasive aspergillosis poses a significant threat to immunocompromised patients, leading to high mortality rates associated with these infections. Targeting the biosynthesis of cell wall carbohydrates is a promising strategy for antifungal drug development and will be advanced by a molecular-level understanding of the native structures of polysaccharides within their cellular context. Solid-state NMR spectroscopy has recently provided detailed insights into the cell wall organization of Aspergillus fumigatus, but genetic and biochemical evidence highlights species-specific differences among Aspergillus species.

Rising carbon dioxide emissions are provoking ocean warming and acidification, altering plankton habitats and threatening calcifying organisms, such as the planktonic foraminifera (PF). Whether the PF can cope with these unprecedented rates of environmental change, through lateral migrations and vertical displacements, is unresolved. Here we show, using data collected over the course of a century as FORCIS global census counts, that the PF are displaying evident poleward migratory behaviours, increasing their diversity at mid- to high latitudes and, for some species, descending in the water column.
