Gingival fibroblasts (GFs) can differentiate into osteoblast-like cells and induce osteoclast precursors to differentiate into osteoclasts. As it is unclear whether these two processes influence each other, we investigated how osteogenic differentiation of GFs affects their osteoclast-inducing capacity. To establish step-wise mineralization, GFs were cultured in four groups for 3 weeks, without or with osteogenic medium for the final 1, 2, or all 3 weeks.

Activation of endodontic irrigants using a 9.3 µm CO₂ and diode lasers: A laboratory proof of concept model.

Iloprost's anti-inflammatory effects on human dental pulp stem cells (HDPCs) are currently unknown. We hypothesized that iloprost could downregulate the expression of inflammatory-related genes and protein in an inflamed HDPC in vitro model. This preliminary study investigates the differences between experimental periodontitis and peri-implantitis in a dog model, with a focus on the histopathology, inflammatory responses, and specific immunoregulatory activities driven by Th1/Th2-positive cells. Twelve dental implants were inserted into the edentulated posterior mandibles of 6 beagle dogs and were given 12 weeks for osseointegration. The clinical significance of implant stability quotient (ISQ) measurements: A literature review.

Implant stability quotients (ISQ values) are obtained in dental clinical practice on a non-invasive basis by resonance frequency measurement rapidly after surgical placement of implants. It is the aim of this review to provide a synopsis of all factors described in the literature that influence ISQ measurements by performing an exhaustive literature review; moreover, this review aims at elucidating the key factors relevant for a rapid clinical predictive assessment.

The field of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) and bruxism research has recently witnessed a publishing trend leaning towards an overuse of systematic reviews (SRs) that contribute little or nothing to current knowledge. The majority of these seem to be more methodological exercises than manuscripts prepared to provide clinicians and researchers with up-to-date information to advance knowledge. In addition, given the increasing number of researchers who have been reviewing the dental literature on various topics without seemingly having any specific clinical or scientific background in the topic under review, the ultimate value of some SRs is questionable.

The objective of this study was to develop heparin-conjugated strontium-substituted hydroxyapatite/silk fibroin (Sr-nHAp/SF-Hep) scaffold loaded bone morphogenetic proteins-2 (BMP-2) with sustained release to improve bone regeneration. The average pore diameters and porosity of Sr-nHAp/SF scaffolds were respectively approximately 150 μm and 90%. The mechanical properties and thermostability of the Sr-nHAp/SF scaffolds were significantly stronger than those of the SF scaffold.
