Human recombination-activating gene (RAG) deficiency can manifest with distinct clinical and immunological phenotypes. By applying a multiomics approach to a large group of -mutated patients, we aimed at characterizing the immunopathology associated with each phenotype. Although defective T and B cell development is common to all phenotypes, patients with hypomorphic variants can generate T and B cells with signatures of immune dysregulation and produce autoantibodies to a broad range of self-antigens, including type I interferons.

Background: Catheter-directed interventions (CDIs) for pulmonary embolism (PE) continue to evolve. However, due to the paucity of data, their use has been limited in patients with underlying kidney disease.

Methods: The National Readmission Database (2016-2020) was utilized to identify intermediate to high-risk PE (IHR-PE) patients requiring CDI (thrombectomy, thrombolysis, and ultrasound-assisted thrombolysis).

Introduction: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a virus of the herpesviridae family. A retrospective observational analysis was conducted to identify trends and disparities related to sarcoidosis and non-ischemic cardiovascular disease mortality among the adult US population from 1999 to 2022. We used the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) WONDER database to extract death certificate data for the adult US population (≥25 years).

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are common complications in chronic kidney disease (CKD). Oxidative stress associated with renal and metabolic dysfunctions is one of the cardiovascular complications (CVC) in haemodialysis patients. The aim of the present study is to analyse the oxidative stress markers in CDK patients supplemented with antioxidants and vitamin E, with monitoring of CVC.

Molecular characterization of Staphylococcus aureus from nasal samples of healthy pet cats.

The objective of this study was to characterize Staphylococcus aureus isolates recovered from the nasal samples of healthy pet cats in Algiers province. A total of 138 nasal swabs were collected. Antimicrobial susceptibility was conducted using the disk-diffusion method and the VITEK-2 susceptibility system.

WALANT technique for acute compartment syndrome of the arm in a COVID-19 patient: A case report.

Introduction: Compartment syndrome is a surgical emergency caused by elevated pressure within a closed fascial compartment, leading to compromised tissue perfusion and the potential for irreversible damage if not treated promptly. This report presents a rare case of upper limb compartment syndrome in a COVID-19 patient on anticoagulation therapy following multiple failed venipuncture attempts. This work has been reported in line with the SCARE criteria.

Objectives: To monitor the spread of invasive meningococcal disease due to group C of the clonal complex 10217 isolates beyond the sub-Saharan African meningitis belt.

Methods: Cases were confirmed by real-time polymerase chain reaction in blood or cerebrospinal fluid samples and further characterized by multi-locus sequence typing that defined sequence type and clonal complexes. Sequencing of gene (encoding the penicillin-binding protein 2) was also used to predict susceptibility to β-lactams.

Factors associated with therapeutic non-adherence in asthmatic patients: A multicenter study in Algeria.

Introduction: Effective medication adherence, is a real global challenge that emerges as a pivotal factor influencing asthma control, exacerbation frequency, hospitalization rates and ultimately, mortality, morbidity and health care costs. In light of this, our study aimed to assess therapeutic adherence levels among asthmatic patients and identify factors contributing to non-adherence.

Methods: We conducted a descriptive, cross-sectional multicenter study, among asthmatic patients receiving outpatient or inpatient care across seven asthma centers located in two Algerian cities: Algiers (University Hospital Center of Benimessous, University Hospital Center of Bab el oued,EPSP of Zeralda, EPSP of Beraki and EPSP of Rouiba) and Constantine (Constantine University Hospital Center (CHU), EPSP of Constantine), between July and December 2023.

Maximizing chitin and chitosan recovery yields from Fusarium verticillioides using a many-factors-at-a-time approach.

The extraction of chitin and chitosan presents challenges due to the complexity of the process and the influence of many variables. This study aimed to optimize chitin and chitosan extraction from Fusarium verticillioides by analyzing many additives and processing variables and modeling their yields using multiple linear regression (MLR) and evolutionary algorithms. FT-IR analysis confirmed the presence of characteristic bands in the extracted samples, and SEM analysis further revealed the microfibrillar appearance of the chitin and the dense, non-porous structure of the chitosan.

High Capacity and Reversible Fragile Watermarking Method for Medical Image Authentication and Patient Data Hiding.

The exchange of medical images and patient data over the internet has attracted considerable attention in the past decade, driven by advancements in communication and health services. However, transferring confidential data through insecure channels, such as the internet, exposes it to potential manipulations and attacks. To ensure the authenticity of medical images while concealing patient data within them, this paper introduces a high-capacity and reversible fragile watermarking model in which an authentication watermark is initially generated from the cover image and merged with the patient's information, photo, and medical report to form the global watermark.

Metals in honey, cow's milk and eggs in North-East Algeria and health risk.

Metal contamination of foodstuffs is a major public health challenge of increasing concern. The present study aimed to determine lead, cadmium and mercury in honey, cow's milk and poultry eggs collected from the North-Eastern region of Algeria and to evaluate the health risks associated with their regular consumption. To this aim 30 samples of each foodstuff were analysed using ICP-MS.

Aims: To evaluate treatment advancement with insulin glargine 300 U/mL (Gla-300), with or without prior glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA) therapy in type 2 diabetes (T2D).

Methods: Efficacy and safety outcomes of insulin-naïve patients intensifying with Gla-300, with/without prior GLP-1 RA therapy, were evaluated in three analyses (N = 3562): a pooled analysis of seven interventional studies, a subanalysis comparing participants who stopped GLP-1 RA therapy and initiated Gla-300 with those who received add-on Gla-300, and an expanded analysis including two observational studies.

Results: Glycaemic outcomes, including HbA1c improvement and fasting plasma glucose, were similar between groups with/without prior GLP-1 RA use.

Methods: Our protocol was registered on PROSPERO (CRD42022382645). We searched six electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, CENTRAL, EMBASE, and Google Scholar) to retrieve all studies that reported the occurrence of IOI following brolucizumab.

Study of the toxicity of the essential oil of Brocchia cinerea.

Brocchia cinerea is a North African plant belonging to the Asteraceae family, widely utilized in Algerian folk medicine to treat a variety of illnesses. These therapeutic virtues are mainly due to the plant essential oil. The chemical components of this oil were identified using GC-MS, and the variability in these components' levels was examined in nine samples that were taken at different times from two locations in Algeria's northern Sahara.
