Biliary sepsis, characterized by contamination and infection of the biliary tract, poses a serious medical issue with detrimental effects on the patients. While cholecystectomy is the usual treatment for symptomatic gallstones, the most desirable management approach for biliary sepsis remains debated, prompting a scientific evaluation of the long-term effects of cholecystectomy. To compare the long-term outcomes of biliary sepsis in patients undergoing cholecystectomy versus conservative management (CM), this study will systematically review the existing literature to clarify differences in recurrence rates, complication rates, and overall survival.

Article Synopsis
  • The spleen develops from mesenchymal cells in the dorsal mesentery during embryogenesis, and accessory spleens are common anomalies that can be mistaken for tumors; this case is the first report of three accessory spleens found in Syria in a patient who had a prior splenectomy.
  • A 33-year-old male experienced right-sided abdominal pain, and after medical evaluation, imaging tests showed a lobulated mass in the right adrenal gland and elevated levels of metanephrine, suggesting a pheochromocytoma; laparoscopic surgery ultimately revealed multiple accessory spleens without signs of cancer.
  • The case emphasizes the importance of considering accessory spleens in patients with masses near the adrenal glands, as they can complicate diagnosis and treatment

  • This study analyzed how different constant temperatures (12°C, 37°C, and 50°C) affect the unloading force of three types of nickel-titanium (NiTi) archwires used in orthodontics.
  • Three types of archwires tested included superelastic, heat-activated at 25°C, and thermally activated at 35°C, with results measured through a three-point bending test.
  • Findings revealed that all wire types demonstrated thermal sensitivity, with unloading forces increasing at higher temperatures and varying responses among the types, particularly showing the greatest sensitivity in the thermally activated Ti-Lite® wire.

  • Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) continues to be a major health challenge globally, even with improved treatment options.
  • This study evaluated the impact of empagliflozin, an SGLT2 inhibitor typically used for managing type 2 diabetes, on heart function in ACS patients by analyzing data from four randomized controlled trials with a total of 701 participants.
  • Results showed that empagliflozin significantly improved certain left cardiac parameters, like reducing left ventricular end-systolic volume and mass, although it did not significantly change left ventricular ejection fraction or end-diastolic volume, indicating its potential as a complementary treatment in ACS cases.
