Using primary care electronic medical records (the United Kingdom Health Improvement Network Database 2003-2015), we examined the control of cardiovascular risk factors in the first year after diagnosis in British adults with diabetes mellitus. Among 292 170 individuals with diabetes receiving frequent outpatient management (median of 16 primary care visits in the prior year), control of cardiovascular risk factors a median of 354 days after diagnosis was suboptimal: 14.7% had HbA1C < 7%, SBP < 140 mm Hg, LDL cholesterol ≤1.

Around the world, climate change has impacted many species. In this study, we used bioclimatic variables and biophysical layers of Central Asia and the Asian Highlands combined with presence data of brown bear () to understand their current distribution and predict their future distribution under the current rate of climate change. Background: The current standard of care (SOC) for pediatric venous thromboembolism (VTE) comprises unfractionated heparin (UFH), or low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) followed by LMWH or vitamin K antagonists, all of which have limitations. Dabigatran etexilate (DE) has demonstrated efficacy and safety for adult VTE and has the potential to overcome some of the limitations of the current SOC. Pediatric trials are needed to establish dosing in children and to confirm that results obtained in adults are applicable in the pediatric setting.

Objectives: Blood stage malaria parasites attenuated with seco-cyclopropyl pyrrolo indole (CPI) analogues induce robust immunity in mice to homologous and heterologous malaria parasites and are being considered for the development of a human vaccine. In the Arctic, loss of sea ice will reduce barriers to dispersal or eliminate movement corridors, resulting in increased connectivity or geographic isolation with sweeping implications for conservation.
