We assessed severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 seroprevalence on residual blood samples for pediatric COVID-19 surveillance: 2263 samples were collected during routine outpatient visits (<18 years, April 2020-August 2021). Seroprevalence increased over time, coinciding with or preceding virus circulation in the community and with or preceding pediatric severe COVID-19 hospitalization peaks. Residual blood sample seroprevalence may be a useful surveillance tool in future outbreaks.

Background: A 2-dose mRNA-1273 primary series in children aged 6 months-5 years (25 µg) and 6-11 years (50 µg) had an acceptable safety profile and was immunogenic in the phase 2/3 KidCOVE study. We present data from KidCOVE participants who received an mRNA-1273 booster dose.
Methods: An mRNA-1273 booster dose (10 µg for children aged 6 months-5 years; 25 µg for children aged 6-11 years; age groups based on participant age at enrollment) was administered ≥6 months after primary series completion.

Introduction: Advances in health care have improved outcomes for pediatric patients with congenital neurourological conditions, highlighting the need for an effective transition from pediatric to adult care. This study investigates Canada's transitional urologic care within its single-payer health care system, focusing on the active members of Pediatric Urologists of Canada and their practices, perceptions, and attitudes toward transitional urologic care.
Methods: A survey was distributed to 35 Pediatric Urologists of Canada members from July 2023 to January 2024, which collected data on transitional care practices and available transitional urology clinics.

Data for pharmacologic treatments for non-eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases (EGIDs) are limited. Nevertheless, because of the increasing understanding of EGID pathogenesis, a number of medications are used to treat EGIDs, though all are currently off-label. Initial therapy generally starts with corticosteroids, and "topical" delivery is preferred over systemic due to long-term side effects.

Background: Prophylactic peritoneal dialysis (PD) in neonates undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is safe and improves outcomes. We sought to (1) derive the pre-operative characteristics of neonates who are most likely to benefit from PD after CPB and (2) validate a new prophylactic PD protocol based on our retrospective analysis.
Methods: First, we retrospectively evaluated neonates requiring cardiac surgery with CPB from October 2012 to June 2016.

Rationale & Objective: Accurate detection of hypertension is crucial for clinical management of pediatric chronic kidney disease (CKD). The 2017 American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) clinical practice guideline for childhood hypertension included new normative blood pressure (BP) values and revised definitions of BP categories. In this study, we examined the effect of applying the AAP guideline's normative data and definitions to the Chronic Kidney Disease in Children (CKiD) cohort compared with use of normative data and definitions from the 2004 Fourth Report on the Diagnosis, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure in Children and Adolescents.

Objective: The global neurosurgery movement arose at the crossroads of unmet neurosurgical needs and public health to address the global burden of neurosurgical disease. The case of folic acid fortification (FAF) of staple foods for the prevention of spina bifida and anencephaly (SBA) represents an example of a new neurosurgical paradigm focused on public health intervention in addition to the treatment of individual cases. The Global Alliance for the Prevention of Spina Bifida-F (GAPSBiF), a multidisciplinary coalition of neurosurgeons, pediatricians, geneticists, epidemiologists, food scientists, and fortification policy experts, was formed to advocate for FAF of staple foods worldwide.

Background: There is significant overdiagnosis of milk allergy in young children in some countries, leading to unnecessary use of specialized formula. This guidance, developed by experts without commercial ties to the formula industry, aims to reduce milk allergy overdiagnosis and support carers of children with suspected milk allergy.
Methods: Delphi study involving two rounds of anonymous consensus building and an open meeting between January and July 2021.

Cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury (CS-AKI) in neonates has been associated with poor outcomes. Early detection and intervention of acute kidney injury (AKI) are needed in order to mitigate some of these sequalae. Currently, serum creatinine (SCr) remains the gold standard for AKI diagnosis; however, changes are not seen until days after injury thus delaying the diagnosis.

Background: There are two conventional modalities used to perform therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE): centrifuge TPE (cTPE) or membrane TPE (mTPE). There is limited data on complications with mTPE.
Objective: We sought to better understand the patient and machine complications of mTPE compared to cTPE.

Background: The Long-terM OUtcomes after the Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome In Children (MUSIC) study aims to characterize the frequency and time course of acute and long-term cardiac and non-cardiac sequelae in multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children associated with COVID-19 (MIS-C), which are currently poorly understood.
Methods: This multicenter observational cohort study will enroll at least 600 patients <21 years old who meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention case definition of MIS-C across multiple North American centers over 2 years. The study will collect detailed hospital and follow-up data for up to 5 years, and optional genetic testing.

Background: The neural tube defects (NTDs) are a heterogeneous group of structural birth defects that arise from a complex array of multiple genetic and environmental factors and adversely affect the structure and function of the brain and spinal cord. Spinal NTDs are clinically more common than cranial NTDs. There remains a significant gap in linking the multiple NTD phenotypes to current genomic understanding.

For over 25 years, with medical advances increasing the lifespan of YYASHCN, we have been aware of the need to improve health care transition to adult-based care services. Barriers to health care transition have been identified and in a number of settings, recognition of the problem and preliminary success has been achieved for pilot programs. Evidence-based solutions to improve health care transition for YYASHCN are needed.
