Background: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) and portopulmonary hypertension (POPH) can be limitations towards listing for liver transplantation (LT). Our study evaluates the correlation of right ventricular systolic pressure (RVSP) and mean pulmonary artery pressure (mPAP) on transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) compared to mPAP on right heart catheterization (RHC).

Methods: We performed a retrospective review of 723 patients who underwent LT evaluation at our institution between 2012 and 2020.

Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine (A.V., E.A., T.C., M.P., P.O., K.P., P.B., I.K., E.M., K.E., S.S.H.), University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Article Synopsis
  • Preexisting cardiovascular disease (CVD) was examined to see if it impacted in-hospital death and cardiovascular events among critically ill COVID-19 patients, utilizing data from 68 U.S. hospitals during the early pandemic stages.
  • Out of 5,133 patients studied, 22.9% had CVD, with a 34.6% death rate and 17.9% experiencing cardiovascular events; however, CVD itself did not significantly predict cardiovascular events.
  • Myocardial injury upon ICU admission was strongly linked to higher odds of both death and cardiovascular events, indicating that factors such as this injury were more critical in determining the outcomes than CVD alone.

Background: Concern has been raised related to the rigor of DNP team projects due to the potential lack of individual opportunity for growth. However, team science, the scientific collaboration conducted by more than one individual in an interdependent fashion, is becoming standard practice for scientific inquiry and dissemination. DNP team projects provide an opportunity to demonstrate competencies related to collaboration, communication, organization, planning, reliability, accountability and acknowledgement of other opinions, expertise, and contributions.

Objective: Using a national data set, we sought to describe the population of patients and the nature and timing of reinterventions after thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) by aortic disease as well as their impact on survival.

Methods: We evaluated the national data set for TEVAR in the Vascular Quality Initiative from 2010 to 2017. Student t-test and χ analysis were used to compare continuous and categorical variables in the reintervention and no reintervention groups, respectively.

PR interval genome-wide association meta-analysis identifies 50 loci associated with atrial and atrioventricular electrical activity.

Nat Commun

July 2018

Departments of Medicine and Epidemiology, Cardiovascular Health Research Unit, Division of Cardiology, University of Washington, Seattle, 98101, WA, USA.

Electrocardiographic PR interval measures atrio-ventricular depolarization and conduction, and abnormal PR interval is a risk factor for atrial fibrillation and heart block. Our genome-wide association study of over 92,000 European-descent individuals identifies 44 PR interval loci (34 novel). Examination of these loci reveals known and previously not-yet-reported biological processes involved in cardiac atrial electrical activity.
