is a worldwide invasive pest that has caused significant economic damage. According to the classical biological control approach, natural enemies that can control invasive pests come from the same area of origin as the pests that have experienced coadaptation processes. However, the new association's approach suggests that local natural enemies are equally capable of controlling invasive pests.

Introduction: The indigenous Papuans of Indonesia's Tanah Papua Island have been a distinct cultural and racial entity from the rest of the country's inhabitants. Furthermore, antiretroviral therapy's inability to reduce mortality and incidence rates in this region has sparked public interest in HIV issues, which has resulted in increased stigma. Papuans were more interested in memorizing the symptoms than using antiretroviral as an effective therapy.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers are exploring new drugs for depression by focusing on interleukin 6 receptors instead of traditional antidepressants that mainly target monoamine neurotransmitters.
  • A study utilized genomic analysis, specifically looking at single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) data, to identify genes linked to depression and match them with potential drug candidates.
  • The findings highlight seven genes significantly associated with depression and suggest 20 drugs in development, with sarilumab and satralizumab showing particular promise for repurposing in depression treatment.

Genetic Association of the Functional Gene in Male Fertility.

J Pers Med

July 2021

Department of Clinical Pharmacy, School of Pharmacy, College of Pharmacy, Taipei Medical University, Taipei 11031, Taiwan.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study investigated the role of the Wuho gene in male fertility using two cohorts: a general population study from Taiwan Biobank and a specific group of 81 male infertility patients from a Taipei hospital.
  • * Findings revealed no genetic associations in the general population, but a specific SNP variant was linked to reduced sperm motility (asthenozoospermia) in patients, suggesting the Wuho gene plays an important role in male reproductive health.

This study aimed to assess the knowledge of antiretroviral (ARV) treatment and the associated factors in HIV-infected patients in Vietnam. We conducted a cross-sectional descriptive study of 350 human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) patients being treated with ARV at outpatient clinics at Soc Trang, Vietnam, from June 2019 to December 2019. Using an interview questionnaire, patients who answered at least eight out of nine questions correctly, including some required questions, were considered to have a general knowledge of ARV treatment.

Anemia is a common complication in patients with renal failure. While erythropoietin is commonly used to treat anemia, some patients exhibit a poor response to erythropoietin. Since store-operated calcium channel (SOC) signaling is one of the erythropoietin activated pathways, we aimed to investigate the association between the genetic polymorphisms of SOC signaling pathway and erythropoietin resistance in patients with renal failure.

Previous studies have implicated the functions of stromal interaction molecule 1 () in immunity and malignancy, however, the specificity and effects of expression in malignant and non-malignant cells in the tumor microenvironment are unclear. In the current study, we posed two central questions: (1) does expression elicit different cellular programs in cell types within the melanoma tumor microenvironment (2) whether the expression of and -coexpressed genes (SCGs) serve as prognostic indicators of patient's outcomes? To answer these questions, we dissected cell-specific -associated cellular programs in diverse cell types within the melanoma tumor microenvironment by measuring cell-type specificity of expression and SCGs. A distinct set of SCGs was highly affected in malignant melanoma cells, but not in the other cell types, suggesting the existence of malignant-cell-specific cellular programs reflected by expression.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) often develops from chronic hepatitis B (CHB) through replication of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Calcium (Ca) signaling plays an essential role in HBV replication. Store-operated calcium (SOC) channels are a major pathway of Ca entry into non-excitable cells such as immune cells and cancer cells.

Even though many genetic risk loci for human diseases have been identified and comprehensively cataloged, strategies to guide clinical research by integrating the extensive results of genetic studies and biological resources are still limited. Moreover, integrative analyses that provide novel insights into disease biology are expected to be especially useful for drug discovery. Herein, we used text mining of genetic studies on colorectal cancer (CRC) and assigned biological annotations to identified risk genes in order to discover novel drug targets and potential drugs for repurposing.
