As peri-urbanisation becomes widespread, quantitative methods for identifying peri-urban areas (PUAs) are increasingly abundant. This study aims to quantitatively compare the differences in the results obtained from multiple PUA identification methods within the same study area and to analyse the spatial patterns of the PUAs. The Threshold Method, Breakpoint Clustering, and Multilayer Perceptron were chosen to compare the identification results of PUAs in Zhengzhou City, China.

The present study aims to establish a reproducible large animal experimental unit using a minipig model to monitor cardiac function changes. A 90-min closed-chest balloon occlusion of the left anterior descending branch of the coronary artery was used to induce myocardial infarction in Pannon minipigs. To monitor the cardiac function, measurements were made by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (cMRI), invasive pressure monitoring, and a Pulse index Continuous Cardiac Output (PiCCO) hemodynamic system at 0, 72, and 720 h during the follow-up period.

Earthworms are a key faunal group in agricultural soils, but little is known on how farming systems affect their communities across wide climatic gradients and how farming system choice might mediate earthworms' exposure to climate conditions. Here, we studied arable soil earthworm communities on wheat fields across a European climatic gradient, covering nine pedo-climatic zones, from Mediterranean to Boreal (S to N) and from Lusitanian to Pannonian (W to E). In each zone, 20-25 wheat fields under conventional or organic farming were sampled.

Background/objectives: The growing concern about the environmental impacts of consumption has led to the emergence of so-called "eco-guilt"-a psychological construct reflecting the guilt felt by individuals about the environmental consequences of their choices, which plays a prominent role among the factors influencing pro-environmental behavior. Although eco-guilt has already emerged in other service sectors, such as tourism, and general scales exist to measure it, no such scale exists in the context of food consumption. The aim of this research is to develop and validate a scale to measure eco-guilt related to food consumption.

During food quality control, NIR technology enables the rapid and non-destructive determination of the typical quality characteristics of food categories, their origin, and the detection of potential counterfeits. Over the past 20 years, the NIR results for a variety of food groups-including meat and meat products, milk and milk products, baked goods, pasta, honey, vegetables, fruits, and luxury items like coffee, tea, and chocolate-have been compiled. This review aims to give a broad overview of the NIRS processes that have been used thus far to assist researchers employing non-destructive techniques in comparing their findings with earlier data and determining new research directions.

Bats are increasingly in the focus of disease surveillance studies as they harbor pathogens that can cause severe human disease. In other host groups, ectoparasitic arthropods play an important role in transmitting pathogens to humans. Nevertheless, we currently know little about the role of bat-associated ectoparasites in pathogen transmission, not only between bats but also to humans and other species, even though some of these parasites occasionally feed on humans and harbor potentially zoonotic organisms.

During the course of two independent studies conducted in Hungary and Spain, four conspecific yeast strains were isolated from flowers of different plant species. DNA sequences of two barcoding regions, the D1/D2 domain of the LSU rRNA gene and the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region (ITS1-5.8S rRNA gene-ITS2), revealed that the four strains represent an undescribed (family , ) species.

Calcium carbide is prohibited as a fruit ripening agent in many countries due to its harmful effects. Current methods for detecting calcium carbide in fruit involve time-consuming and destructive chemical analysis techniques, necessitating the need for non-destructive and rapid detection techniques. This study combined near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy with chemometrics to detect two banana varieties ripened with calcium carbide in different forms when they are peeled or unpeeled.

The Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) eradication program in Hungary, implemented between 2014 and 2022, utilized complete herd replacement and the introduction of high-performance breeds to enhance production efficiency and environmental sustainability in the swine sector. Six distinct actinospore types were identified in the intestinal epithelium of oligochaetes collected from the Szigetbecse and Makád fish farms of Ráckeve Danube Arm Fishing Association, in Hungary. Four new types: triactinomyxon type, raabeia type, aurantiactinomyxon type 1, and aurantiactinomyxon type 2, were described morphologically and molecularly from three invertebrate host species: , and . The 18S ribosomal DNA (rDNA) analysis revealed that these new types of actinospores did not match any myxospore sequences available in GenBank.
