Article Synopsis
  • This study explores how non-ionic surfactants, specifically Cremophor EL and Cremophor RH40, can help inhibit efflux pumps in multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria, which often render antibiotics ineffective.
  • Researchers confirmed the presence of MDR strains and tested how these surfactants, combined with ciprofloxacin, affected minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC).
  • Results showed that both surfactants significantly reduced MIC values of ciprofloxacin, indicating their potential to enhance the effectiveness of existing antibiotics against resistant strains.

First-principles calculations based on density functional theory (DFT) have been performed to investigate the effect of Si/Be, Si/Al, Si/N and Si/S co-doping on the geometries, electronic structure, magnetism and particularly the adsorption of CO in arsenene. The results show that the incorporation of foreign atoms slightly distorts the host lattice. All doped structures are found to be thermodynamically stable.

Green syntheses of nanoparticles using plant materials are of tremendous scope. Here we report advantageous green synthesis for silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using aqueous-root extract of Jurinea dolomiaea and AgNO3. Color change of solution and UV-Vis absorption at 444 nm indicated the formation of AgNPs.
