The purpose of this prospective case series was to determine the effectiveness of using a combination of the core decompression and injection of autologous conditioned plasma (ACP) for the treatment of symptomatic knee bone marrow lesions (BML), as well as to report on the preliminary clinical results based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and patient-reported outcomes (PROMs). Patients with OA-related BML who failed to improve on conservative treatment for three months underwent an identical procedure consisting of arthroscopy, core decompression, and the intraosseous injection of ACP and were followed up for 12 months. A statistically significant reduction in pain and an improvement in function, as measured by the Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS) and Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS), was observed at one-week follow-up (8.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a sleep-related breathing disorder characterized by obstructions of the upper airway during sleep, resulting in repetitive breathing pauses accompanied by oxygen desaturation and arousal from sleep. OSA can be successfully treated with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), weight loss, positional therapy, oral appliances, hypoglossal nerve stimulation, and surgical procedures. It has been observed that untreated OSA is related to chronic disorders including hypertension, arrhythmias, congestive heart failure, coronary heart disease, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, stroke, depression, and cognitive decline.

Anti-glomerular basement membrane (anti-GBM) disease is an acute and life-threatening systemic autoimmune disorder. The coexistence of circulating anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) and anti-GBM disease, the so-called double-positive disease (DPD), is exceptionally rare. We report a unique case of DPD manifesting as pulmonary-renal syndrome (PRS) in a 46-year-old woman who first presented with clinical and radiological suspicion of pneumonia.

Background: The diagnosis of clinically significant portal hypertension is crucial for prognosis and treatment guidance in patients with compensated advanced chronic liver disease (ACLD). Spleen stiffness measurement (SSM) might improve the non-invasive diagnosis of clinically significant portal hypertension, but previous studies have reported heterogeneous SSM cutoffs. We aimed to evaluate the accuracy of SSM and SSM-based algorithms in this setting.

Inflammatory Biomarkers Affecting Survival Prognosis in Patients Receiving Veno-Venous ECMO for Severe COVID-19 Pneumonia.

Diagnostics (Basel)

June 2023

Clinical Department for Anesthesiology, Reanimatology and Intensive Care Medicine, University Hospital Dubrava, Avenija Gojka Šuška 6, 10000 Zagreb, Croatia.

Severe COVID-19 pneumonia in which mechanical ventilation is unable to achieve adequate gas exchange can be treated with veno-venous ECMO, eliminating the need for aggressive mechanical ventilation which might promote ventilator-induced lung injury and increase mortality. In this retrospective observational study, 18 critically ill COVID-19 patients who were treated using V-V ECMO during an 11-month period in a tertiary COVID-19 hospital were analyzed. Biomarkers of inflammation and clinical features were compared between survivors and non-survivors.

Right-sided infective endocarditis due to methicillin-resistant (MRSA) is strongly associated with intravenous drug abuse, congenital heart disease, or previous medical treatment and is rare in healthy patients without a history of drug abuse. Here, we present a case of an 18-year-old male with no drug abuse history and no medical burden who was diagnosed with MRSA tricuspid valve endocarditis. Due to initial symptoms which indicated community-acquired pneumonia and radiological finding of interstitial lesions, empiric therapy with ceftriaxone and azithromycin was started.
