Published in 2021, the fifth edition of the World Health Organization (WHO) classification of tumors of the central nervous system (CNS) introduced new molecular criteria for tumor types that commonly occur in either pediatric or adult age groups. Adolescents and young adults (AYAs) are at the intersection of adult and pediatric care, and both pediatric-type and adult-type CNS tumors occur at that age. Mortality rates for AYAs with CNS tumors have increased by 0.

Background: The contribution of tumor type, multimodal treatment, and other patient-related factors upon long-term cognitive sequelae in infant brain tumor survivors remains undefined. We add our retrospective analysis of neuropsychological and quality of survival (QoS) outcome data of survivors of atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumors (ATRT) and extracranial malignant rhabdoid tumors of the soft tissues (eMRT) and kidneys (RTK) treated within the same framework. Neuropsychological data from children with ATRT were compared to data from children with non-irradiated low-grade glioma (LGG).

Heat Shock Protein 90 (HSP90), a major molecular chaperone, plays a crucial role in cell function by folding and stabilizing proteins and maintaining proteostasis. This study aimed to elucidate the prognostic impact of HSP90 in cervical cancer. We analyzed HSP90 expression using immunohistochemistry in cervical cancer tissue microarrays from 250 patients.

Purpose: To assess the reliability of virtual non-contrast (VNC) derived coronary artery calcium quantities in relation to heart rate and the VNC algorithm used compared to reference true non-contrast (TNC), considering several clinically established acquisition modes.
Material And Methods: An ad hoc built coronary phantom containing four calcified lesions and an iodinated lumen was scanned using three cardiac acquisition modes three times within an anthropomorphic cardiac motion phantom simulating different heart rates (0, 60, 80, 100 bpm) and reconstructed with a conventional (VNC) and a calcium-sensitive (VNC) VNC algorithm. TNC reference was scanned at 0 bpm with non-iodinated lumen.

As neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) often present as metastatic lesions, immunohistochemical assignment to a site of origin is one of the most important tasks in their pathologic assessment. Because a fraction of NETs eludes the typical expression profiles of their primary localization, additional sensitive and specific markers are required to improve diagnostic certainty. We investigated the expression of the transcription factor Pituitary Homeobox 2 (PITX2) in a large-scale cohort of 909 NET and 248 neuroendocrine carcinomas (NEC) according to the immunoreactive score (IRS) and correlated PITX2 expression groups with general tumor groups and primary localization.

Background: Tracheostomy in mechanically ventilated patients with severe stroke can be performed surgically or dilationally. Prospective data comparing both methods in patients with stroke are scarce. The randomized Stroke-Related Early Tracheostomy vs Prolonged Orotracheal Intubation in Neurocritical Care Trial2 (SETPOINT2) assigned 382 mechanically ventilated patients with stroke to early tracheostomy versus extubation or standard tracheostomy.

Background: The objective of this study was to investigate the differences in presenting symptoms between patients with and without diabetes being diagnosed with an acute myocardial infarction (AMI).
Methods: A total of 5,900 patients with a first-time AMI were included into the analysis. All patients aged between 25 and 84 years were recorded by the population-based Myocardial Infarction Registry in Augsburg, Germany, between 2010 and 2017.

Background: In this study, we investigated various acute myocardial infarction (AMI) symptoms and their associations with short-term (28 day) and long-term mortality.
Methods: The analysis was based on 5900 patients, aged 25 to 84 years, with first-time AMI recorded by the population-based Myocardial Infarction Registry Augsburg between 2010 and 2017. Median follow-up time was 3.

Background: DBS of the subthalamic nucleus (STN) considerably ameliorates cardinal motor symptoms in PD. Reported STN-DBS effects on secondary dysarthric (speech) and dysphonic symptoms (voice), as originating from vocal tract motor dysfunctions, are however inconsistent with rather deleterious outcomes based on post-surgical assessments.
Objective: To parametrically and intra-operatively investigate the effects of deep brain stimulation (DBS) on perceptual and acoustic speech and voice quality in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients.

Background: Different ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) localizations go along with dissimilarities in the size of the affected myocardium, the causing coronary vessel occlusion, and the right ventricular participation. Therefore, this study aims to clarify if there is any difference in long-term survival between anterior- and non-anterior-wall STEMI.
Methods: This study included 2,195 incident STEMI cases that occurred between 2009 and 2017, recorded by the population-based Augsburg Myocardial Infarction Registry, Germany.

Introduction: Changes in DNA methylation can increase or suppress the expression of health-relevant genes. We investigated for the first time the relationship between habitual food consumption and changes in DNA methylation.
Methods: The German KORA FF4 and KORA Fit studies were used to study the change in methylation over a median follow-up of 4 years.

Objectives: To describe late transplant-associated thrombotic microangiopathy (TA-TMA) as chronic endothelial complication in bone marrow (BM) after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT).
Methods: BM specimens along with conventional diagnostic parameters were assessed in 14 single-institutional patients with late TA-TMA (more than 100 days after HCST), including 11 late with history of early TA-TMA, 10 with early TA-TMA (within 100 days), and 12 non TA-TMA patients. Three non-HSCT patients served as control.

Background: The aim of this clinical trial was to compare Fluorescein-stained intraoperative confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) of intracranial lesions and evaluation by a neuropathologist with routine intraoperative frozen section (FS) assessment by neuropathology.
Methods: In this phase II noninferiority, prospective, multicenter, nonrandomized, off-label clinical trial (EudraCT: 2019-004512-58), patients above the age of 18 years with any intracranial lesion scheduled for elective resection were included. The diagnostic accuracies of both CLE and FS referenced with the final histopathological diagnosis were statistically compared in a noninferiority analysis, representing the primary endpoint.

Introduction: The role of visceral fat in disease development, particularly in Crohn´s disease (CD), is significant. However, its preoperative prognostic value for postoperative complications and CD relapse after ileocecal resection (ICR) remains unknown. This study aims to assess the predictive potential of preoperatively measured visceral and subcutaneous fat in postoperative complications and CD recurrence using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Background: The early management of polytrauma patients with traumatic spinal cord injury (tSCI) is a major challenge. Sparse data is available to provide optimal care in this scenario and worldwide variability in clinical practice has been documented in recent studies.
Methods: A multidisciplinary consensus panel of physicians selected for their established clinical and scientific expertise in the acute management of tSCI polytrauma patients with different specializations was established.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, heterogeneous, inflammatory disease characterized by skin lesions, pruritus, and pain. Patients with moderate-to-severe AD experience chronic symptoms, intensified by unpredictable flares, and often have comorbidities and secondary complications, which can result in significant clinical burden that impacts the patient's overall quality of life. The complex interplay of immune dysregulation and skin barrier disruption drives AD pathogenesis, of which T-cell-dependent inflammation plays a critical role in patients with AD.

Background: Vedolizumab (VDZ) is a well-established and important therapeutic option in the treatment of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, the significance of therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) with VDZ remains a contradictory field in daily clinical practice. Our study aims to clarify the predictive impact of VDZ drug levels in long-term clinical outcomes in a real-world cohort.
