Background: Job engagement and satisfaction are crucial for any successful institution, in recent years, organizations around the globe have begun measuring the engagement level of employees in order to improve productivity and profitability. Employee engagement has the potential to significantly affect employee retention and loyalty. This study was conducted by the pharmacy-Quality Improvement Section to assess pharmacy staff engagement in KAMC-CR in 2019 and to develop a tool to be used as employee engagement key performance indicator (KPI).

Outcomes of Left Main Revascularization in Patients with Anemia: Gulf Left Main Registry.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of baseline anemia and anemia following revascularization on outcomes in patients with unprotected left main coronary artery (ULMCA) disease.

Methods: This was a retrospective, multicenter, observational study conducted between January 2015 and December 2019. The data on patients with ULMCA who underwent revascularization through percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) were stratified by the hemoglobin level at baseline into anemic and non-anemic groups to compare in-hospital events.

Rapid molecular detection of CMY-2, and CTX-M group 1 and 9 variants via recombinase polymerase amplification.

Background: Due to their prevalence worldwide, the β-lactamases CTX-M and plasmid-mediated CMY-2 are important antimicrobial resistance enzymes in a clinical setting. While culture- and PCR-based detection methods exist for these targets, they are time consuming and require specialist equipment and trained personnel to carry out.

Methods: In this study, three rapid diagnostic single-plex and a prototype triplex assay were developed, using recombinase polymerase amplification with lateral flow detection (RPA-LF), and tested for their sensitivity and specificity using two isolate DNA panels ( = 90 and  = 120 isolates).

Background: Surveillance of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) is a cornerstone for effective infection prevention and control (IPC) programs. The objective was to evaluate the coverage and methods of HAI surveillance in Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) countries.

Methods: A cross-sectional study targeted IPC staff working in MENA countries using the Infection Control Network electronic database of the Arab countries.

Diagnostic approach and use of CTPA in patients with suspected pulmonary embolism in an emergency department in Saudi Arabia.

Background: In patients with suspected pulmonary embolism (PE), the literature suggests the overuse of computerized tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) and underuse of clinical decision rules before imaging request. This study determined the potential for avoidable CTPA using the modified Wells score (mWS) and D-dimer assay in patients with suspected PE.

Methods: This hospital-based retrospective study analyzed the clinical data of 661 consecutive patients with suspected PE who underwent CTPA in the emergency department of a tertiary hospital for the use of a clinical prediction rule (mWS) and D-dimer assay.

Objectives: The Model for End-Stage Liver Disease score is used to prioritize patients awaiting liver transplant. Since hepatocellular carcinoma does not affect the score, patients with hepatocellular carcinoma are given exception points to promote fairness. In the United States,this practice has resulted in overcorrection; hence, a 6-month delay to grant exceptions was implemented.

Does Gender Affect the Outcomes of Myocardial Revascularization for Left-Main Coronary Artery Disease?

Currently, gender is not considered in the choice of the revascularization strategy for patients with unprotected left main coronary artery (ULMCA) disease. This study analyzed the effect of gender on the outcomes of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) vs coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in patients with ULMCA disease. Females who had PCI (n = 328) were compared with females who had CABG (n = 132) and PCI in males (n = 894) was compared with CABG (n = 784).

Clinical Characteristics and Risk Factors of Neonatal Hypoxic-Ischaemic Encephalopathy and Its Associated Neurodevelopmental Outcomes During the First Two Years of Life: A Retrospective Study in Saudi Arabia.

Objective: This study aimed to determine the clinical characteristics and factors associated with neonatal hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE) and its neurodevelopmental outcomes.

Methods: We conducted retrospective case-control research to investigate the clinical and labour-related risk factors for HIE. In addition, a single-centre cohort study was conducted on infants with HIE to describe their neurodevelopment from birth to 24 months.

Nutritional quality of prepackaged foods carrying health or nutritional claims in KSA.

Objectives: To evaluate the nutritional quality of products carrying health or nutritional claims to protect consumers from being misled and to ensure that they are provided with accurate information about food products that are associated with health or nutritional claims.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional survey of 1153 foods that were randomly sampled from 14 stores in Riyadh, KSA. The data were collected from nutritional facts presented on food labels and evaluated by comparing the mean level of nutrients between products that featured claims and those that did not use the UK nutrient profile model (UKNPM).

Consequences of neglected traumatic spinal cord injuries.

Objectives: Spinal cord injuries cause major disabilities and are devastating events for both patients and healthcare providers. Most traumatic spinal cord injuries (TSCIs) are due to motor vehicle accidents (MVAs). Neglected injuries result in complications and poor outcomes.

Clinical outcomes of percutaneous screw fixation of acetabular fracture: A minimally invasive procedure.

Objective: Open reduction with internal fixation is the surgical intervention of choice for acetabular fractures (AFs). Percutaneous screw fixation for AFs is a new procedure that is desirable because of the complex anatomy of the pelvis. Kaposi's sarcoma associated herpesvirus (KSHV) is causative agent of Kaposi's sarcoma, Multicentric Castleman Disease and Pleural effusion lymphoma. KSHV-encoded ORF17 encodes a protease which cleaves -Ala-Ala-, -Ala-Ser- or -Ala-Thr-bonds. The protease plays an important role in assembly and maturation of new infective virions.

Objectives: Caregivers of children with cerebral palsy have a huge burden which might affect their mental health. This study aimed to determine the different factors affecting the mental health of caregivers of children with cerebral palsy and to raise awareness among healthcare providers.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among caregivers of children with cerebral palsy in National Guard Health Affairs-Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21, which is a validated questionnaire that assesses: depression, anxiety, and stress.

Unusual presentation of aneurysmal bone cyst with scoliosis: a case report.

Background: Aneurysmal bone cysts are benign bone tumors that not uncommonly involves the spine. However, this involvement can cause scoliosis, albeit rarely. This report focuses on the importance of proper management for complete tumor resection to prevent recurrence and spinal deformity.

Background: Paraurethral fibroid is a rare condition. To date, there is no unified protocol to guide long-term follow up in this condition. This study reviewed case reports and summaries published in the last 10 years and focused on the management plans and follow up of patients with paraurethral fibroids.

Biomimetic Whitening Effect of Polyphosphate-Bleaching Agents on Dental Enamel.

AUA-recommended Antibiotic Prophylaxis for Primary Penile Implantation Results in a Higher, Not Lower, Risk for Postoperative Infection: A Multicenter Analysis.

Purpose: Our aim was to determine if the AUA-recommended prophylaxis (vancomycin + gentamicin alone) for primary inflatable penile prosthesis surgery is associated with a higher infection risk than nonstandard regimens.

Materials And Methods: We performed a multicenter, retrospective study of patients undergoing primary inflatable penile prosthesis surgery. Patients were divided into those receiving vancomycin + gentamicin alone and those receiving any other regimen.

A robotic-assisted hybrid coronary revascularization program: Establishment and early experience in the Middle East.

Background: Hybrid coronary revascularization (HCR) is a technique that merges coronary artery bypass grafting surgery and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) approaches for the treatment of multivessel coronary artery disease. The surgical component of the procedure is minimally invasive and can be done using robotic technology that avoids the need for sternotomy.
