Introduction: Paternal nutrition before conception has a marked impact on offspring's risk of developing metabolic disorders during adulthood. Research on human cohorts and animal models has shown that paternal obesity alters sperm epigenetics (DNA methylation, protamine-to-histone replacement, and non-coding RNA content), leading to adverse health outcomes in the offspring. So far, the mechanistic events that translate paternal nutrition into sperm epigenetic changes remain unclear.

Precision medicine in Sjögren's disease.

Sjögren's disease is a clinically and pathophysiologically heterogeneous disease to which precision medicine, on the basis of clinical and biological heterogeneity, has been not always applicable. In patients with Sjögren's disease, the relationship between dysregulated biological pathways and symptoms such as fatigue and pain or clinical manifestations is often difficult to establish. This clinical and biological dissociation also poses challenges when defining appropriate clinical endpoints for clinical trials.

The assessment of the drug retention rate of secukinumab in patients with psoriatic arthritis in a real-life multicentre cohort.

Objectives: We aimed to evaluate the drug retention rate (DRR) of secukinumab, an anti-IL-17A monoclonal antibody, in patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) in a real-life cohort, and to assess the impact of comorbidities and patient clinical characteristics on the DRR of secukinumab.

Methods: A retrospective study of prospective followed-up patients was performed to evaluate the DRR of secukinumab on patients with PsA attending the recruiting centres between January 2016 and June 2022.

Topographic Outcomes in Keratoconus Surgery: Epi-on versus Epi-off Iontophoresis Corneal Collagen Cross-Linking.

Background: Corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) has become the gold standard for mild and moderate stages to stop the progression of keratoconus. We analyzed some corneal topography indices to compare iontophoresis epi-on and iontophoresis epi-off techniques throughout a two-year follow-up. Methods: A total of 64 eyes of 49 patients who underwent CXL were recruited.

Effects of topical low-dose preservative-free hydrocortisone on intraocular pressure in patients affected by ocular surface disease with and without glaucoma.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the safety and efficacy of short-term treatment for ocular surface disease (OSD) with topical low-dose (1,005 mg) preservative-free hydrocortisone in one hundred patients with and without glaucoma.

Methods: This was an open label non-randomized clinical trial. Patients with OSD with and without primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) received topical low-dose (1,005 mg) preservative-free hydrocortisone twice daily in each eye for 2 weeks.

Oncocytomas (OCs) in salivary glands are rare benign tumors composed of mitochondria-rich epithelial cells (oncocytes), mostly localized in the parotid gland. The treatment of choice is simple excision. Extensive oncocytic metaplasia of pleomorphic adenoma (PA) and myoepithelioma (ME) can be diagnostically challenging and may camouflage the correct diagnosis.

The retinoprotective role of phenytoin.

Phenytoin is a non-sedative barbiturate derivate and has been recently rediscovered as a neuroprotective and retinoprotective compound in patients affected by optic neuritis secondary to multiple sclerosis. However, currently there are still no neuroprotective compounds registered and available in the clinic. We reviewed the literature supporting the retinoprotective properties of phenytoin and analyzed the various approaches and definitions from the first research periods onwards.

Safety of treatments for inflammatory bowel disease: Clinical practice guidelines of the Italian Group for the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IG-IBD).

Inflammatory bowel diseases are chronic conditions of unknown etiology, showing a growing incidence and prevalence in several countries, including Italy. Although the etiology of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis is unknown, due to the current knowledge regarding their pathogenesis, effective treatment strategies have been developed. Several guidelines are available regarding the efficacy and safety of available drug treatments for inflammatory bowel diseases.
